i am extremely unsatisfied with atari's help and the game amra for a few reasons one of them being is that when i attempt to install the game it will be about 98% complete and give me the CRC ERROR for a file that does not match. Also i sent a support ticket and it took 24 hours for a response, and what they told me to do was "wash the disk" i tried that didnt work so i return it to the store i purchased it at and got a new copy and guess what. IT HAS THE SAME ISSUE. and i forgot that i had purchased this game online (before going to the store)and in 15 hours it was only 30% complete so i deleted the game off my computer and requested my money back. is there a way i can fix the crc error, or am i going to have to get a new copy?

Matt

SuperRoller....
I bought the digital download first from Prague, then US both copies....crc does not match. I bought the dvd installed it. same problem crc does not match. I never had this problem before and this is actually the only problem ive had with this computer. after about a week I removed one of my memory sticks leaving me with 1gb of ram. the game installed fine. after the install I replaced the stick and now it works fine. was super frustrating. try installing the game in safemode. if that doesnt work try monkying around with your ram. what are your system specs?

I had the same problem:

File copy error (CRC does not match).
C:\program files\atari\ArmA\Missions\tutorial\train_mix.paa

After spending a week's worth of my spare time trying to get this game to work, I too exchanged my copy to make sure the disc wasn't defective. Of course, the new disc had the same problem. The retailer tried to disallow my return/exchange because the box was opened and I guess he didn't want to get stuck with the return, but I just read his store's one week exchange on defective games policy back to him. OK, so the DVD wasn't defective, but I needed to know that before I spent any more of my time being an unpaid software tester. Frankly after all the frustration I've been through I don't feel guilty.

Anyhow, try uninstalling InCD (or any other packet writing software you might have installed). I think it is incompatible with SecuROM. Previously, I had killed the InCD process before running the installer. That didn't do the trick. I had to actually uninstall InCD to get ArmA to install. InCD is pretty common, so I imagine a lot of people will run into this problem.

InCD has ALWAYS, since inception, been a thorn in our gaming sides. Delete it.. period

In my 25 years of gaming i never came across problems like this. we all are recieving the same error but are fixing it in many different ways. What the hell! I @!*&$ love this game though. kicks $#% Best "SIMULATOR" yet. AI is a little to good though almost not realistic.

i dont know if this is old info for you guys, but i saw you guys needed some help, so i contacted customer service, and here are some tips to fix the problem..I hope this helps:

Take a look at the under side of the DVD and inspect for any fingerprints, dust, etc. If the DVD does look dirty try cleaning via one of the following:

Use a CD cleaning kit (available at most computer stores)

Wash it with lukewarm water and mild dish soap solution. Rinse it completely, and then dry it with a soft cotton cloth (or anything that won't scratch the CD or leave debris). Once the DVD is dry, try the game again.

Notice: If you do this, Make sure that you do not scratch the DVD or put it into your system while still wet or damage may result.

It is also a good idea to make sure you have the latest firmware installed for your optical drives. If you have any emulation or virtual drives installed you can also try disabling them before installing the game.

Unfortunately if this still does not help, we would suggest you return the games to the retailer it was originally purchased from for an exchange.

A little information regarding the CRC (Cyclical Redundancy Check) error…..

The check error message occurs when your drive is trying to read data from a damaged CD or DVD. Just before it appears, your CD/DVD drive will probably grind and whirl away - your PC may also become a little sluggish. Normally, when CD/DVD drives get a CRC message from a disc, they try to read the disc again - hence the grinding sound. After several failed attempts, they give up and display the redundancy check error. The problem can be hardware (loose cables, failing drive), software or damaged media. In most cases checking and cleaning the disc is the easiest way to overcome the problem. If different clean discs produce the same error, it is likely to be a hardware issue (check the discs in another drive).

I just purchased ArmA today and I can't get the game to launch. The installation seemed to be problem free. Also, I downloaded and installed the latest patch. During the patch installation I was given several messages of software errors. It would seem that the programers my not be up to the task. My system consists of an Intel Core 2 Quad CPU 2.4 GH, two NVidia 8600 Ultras linked with SLI, and 4 GH of RAM so I'm certain that my machine is more than capable of running this software.
I guess I'm just out $50.00. I'll be sure to avoid atari software in the future.

I'm guessing you're on Vista64 with that 4 gig. This is a known issue and will be fixed very soon in the next beta patch. For now, you can run msconfig and limit Vista to only see 3 gig. Use this forum as a better resource for fixes and enhancements.

I know it sucks, but this isn't Atari's fault, it's Bohemia Interactive who are taking their sweet time getting this much needed fix out. But hang on a little longer man, this platoon sim is still worth it. There's nothing else like it short of the old OFP anyway.

I might add though, it does seem pretty unprofessional of them to release a new box version which isn't even fully compatible with the latest operating system running what is quickly becoming the norm of 4 gigs of RAM. Not to mention, no multi-core support... But hey, that's BI for ya, love em' or hate em'. :/

Previously I got the CRC error but I couldn't find a InCD so I decided to do what you suggested Bumbacrot and wash it in luke warm water. That ****ed it even worse, the disk wont even read now.
