New Project - Dragon Ball Z: Final Budokai

I created this thread in the Tenkaichi 3 section, as I believe that most of the idea creators are to be found here. Please do not move it to the GC section.

Dragon Ball Z: Final Budokai

My project codenamed "Dragon Ball Z: Final Budokai" is a free development for a new generation of DBZ games developed by fans. My desire is to collect the best suggestions available, in order to make a complete game log. Therefore I would like to ask everyone interested to contribute and give their own suggestions to the game log.

I think that it is very possible for us to do accomplish this. After all, we are the real DBZ experts. We are in fact the only ones that can set the limits. So we are very likely to succeed in bringing forth the ultimate DBZ game. When the project is finished, I will personally send it to Baker or Ciel for them to evaluate it. I will of course bring forth the credits for everyone that have contributed ;)

This thread will be open for anyone that would like to share their thoughts and ideas. I have made some positions available for those interested. Feel free to ask any questions as you like.

We are very lucky to have DBZ_KILLER to join us. I have seen his previous works, and I must say I am very impressed. He is currently working on both a website and a forum for us to join. As time passes on, we will have the honor of revealing our future DBZ Community Website Service for everyone to join.

Anyways what I really came here to say is since different producers are doing sparkling meteor I think it might be even worse than tekenchi 2. Or it could be better think about it. I mean look at spider man the ps2 version is the worst but the ps3 version is really fun.

You have to prove that you are something special in order to get into the Elite Idea Creators. And then I am talking about something like Kamiccolo, Vishkugeta, MajinElite etc. ;) Currently you will be sat as Full Member until the situation changes. Is that okay?

Introduction

Well i was a friend to "vegetaxlr"(the admin of secretsaiyan page), just when he was asking me to become a "news seeker" and post things taht i found, ,my free time died (litteraly), and lost contact with him.

And into "gamemaking", i have made some games in rpgmaker (leaving aside the whole programming ting, im good in creativity, balancing, and stuff like that), i hate unbalanced games. I posted a couple of times in ideas for a better Tenkaichi gamte once in gamefaqs, and on gamespot, i did the same on a "digimon" type of game, and i was a spanish translator of a digimon proyect named "DDN" too (it started as a page filled with everithing about it..).

Now, again... i hope to be more involved in the forums, cya.

By the way Vegeta, (I'll be calling SSj5Vegeta only Vegeta) did you know that vBulletin forums are not free? They cost. I don't know how much, maybe checking http://www.vbulletin.com/ could help, anyways, the vBulletin is very good in my opinion, and if you could access it and create an forum there, it should stay for a long time, because I honestly doubt anyone would pay from an forum which will die in a week or so.

The project is as mentioned all about DBZ fans. It is our thoughts that decides which kind of game generation this will be. Remember, it is not a continuation of the Budokai or the Tenkaichi series, but a new generation. Oh, sorry :p Well, you must understand that I cannot judge your skills from what you are saying. Your dad might have lost the data, but I can't tell what it contained. Everyone can try to become one, but I warn you. Not many have made it so far. I am looking for originality, creativity and potential. In order to become an elite idea creator, you need to send me a PM with 2 ideas maximum at half a page minimum.

Originality - You need to have ideas never mentioned before.
Creativity - You need to be able to see what is good and what is not good.
Potential - You need to be able to think like an Elite.

If you got all of that, then you're in. However, you need to put a lot of effort into it. Let me take an example on how it shall not be:

Capsule System
I want a capsule system that is fun to use and makes it easy for me to equip my favorite moves to the characters. There should be capsules, not potaras.

This is an example of how it can/should be:

Capsule System
Budokai 3 invented a new way of customizing your characters. But many players didn't like the fact that you couldn't have all their abilities equipped at once. In Tenkaichi 2, your finishing moves were already set when you obtained a character. Unfortunately, this made it completely impossible for you to customize the character's moves.

My capsule system will be a lot more complicated than the one we had in Tenkaichi 2, but still really easy to navigate through. My vision is to create a capsule system that is easy to use, but still allowing you to fully customize your character. By combining the engine from both Budokai 3 and Tenkaichi 2, I have managed to create something which in my opinion is the ultimate Capsule System.

The Different Capsules:
Instead of having only a single type of capsules, my system is based on three different types. This way, you can balance the setup for each character perfectly, without any annoying weak-spots.
Ability - Finishing Moves, Ultimate Move and Generic Moves for anyone to equip.
Transformations - New forms, transformations and fusion.
Enhancements - Unique enhancements for some characters exclusively.

The Capsule Tray:
The capsule tray will be different from the ones we know in Budokai 3 and Tenkaichi 2. There will be separate defined slots allocated for specific types of capsules. These will be marked with different colors, such as red for ability, blue for transformations and green for enhancements. Another important difference, is that each character's capsule tray are different to each other, giving them advantages in some areas, or simply making up for the lack of another area.

The Capsule Tray Layout:
Even though each character will have a different set-up for the capsule tray, the look of the capsule tray remains the same. Basically, a capsule tray will look like this:

Q: Why does this set-up look nearly exact the same as Kamiccolo's system?
A: The reason for this is simple. I made the original capsule system a long time ago. Kamiccolo and I have borrowed each other ideas in order to make the best ideas. So what you might have thought was all Kamiccolo's work, might just as well be based on my original work and visa versa. But we do also have our disagreements about the capsule system. So things will be more different as you continue to read.

Customization:
The text above explains how the capsule tray will look originally. However, this is how a character's system tray will look like:

As you can see, the last two Enhancement slots are blocked. In order to unlock these, you will have to equip an Enhancement Slot +2 capsule. This is all part of the balancing system. Each character will have their capsule tray preset once their unlocked. This way there will always be a balance between the characters.

Customization 2 - Upgrading:
Now you know how the system tray works in practice. But there are still some things that are important to be aware off.

- Upgrading Abilities
Usually, each character will have three finishing moves and one ultimate blast. So you will most likely not be able to equip all 7 ability slots. Well, unless you equip some moves twice that is. If you do equip the same move for a character twice, then the move will get more powerful and devastating. Some moves will also combine into a new powerful move. For an instance, if you equip Goku with Spirit Bomb twice, then it will evolve into a two-slot demanding Super Spirit Bomb.

- Upgrading Through Transforming
Some moves do also upgrade themselves if you transform into a new form. For an instance, Goku's Kaioken Attack upgrades to Super Kaioken Attack as a Super Saiyan. Then it will become more powerful, but still only demand a single slot.

Customization 3 - Transformations:
This is one of the biggest differences from Tenkaichi 2 and Budokai 3. By equipping a transformation, you will automatically obtain new moves for that form. Now you can play with the new characters with normal settings (all unlocked moves obtained equipped). However, you may also choose to configure your move list:

By tapping [] at the transformation capsule, you will be taken to a menu named Custom Transformation Settings. Here you can replace the current moves with other ones from your skill tray. However, it is important to note that you may only equip moves from earlier forms. You can equip kamehameha to SSJ4 Goku, but you cannot equip 10x Kamehameha to base Goku. You may also not configure other types of capsules while in this process. All enhancement and transformation capsules can only be set in base form Here is a preview of how Goku's normal moves can be replaced:

2 - Meteor Strike > Super Kaioken Attack
3 - Furious Rush > Kiai Attack
4 - Dragon Fist
5 - Instant Transmission Kamehameha > Spirit Bomb Absorption
6 - Empty Slot > Angry Kamehameha
7 - Empty Slot > Super Kaioken Attack

Notice the upgrades from previous moves. Kaioken Attack turns into Super Kaioken Attack and Spirit Bomb turns into Spirit Bomb Absorption. When you first unlock the new form, you might not have obtained all his/her moves. Therefore you might later on tap an option named Optimize in order to equip the best moves available. You can see how the last two empty slots have been equipped with newly obtained moves for SSJ Goku.

Unlocking & Equipping
You unlock most of your ability capsules during the story mode. Enhancements are more often bought in the Capsule Shop. As for Goku, you will start with kamehameha and a combo trigger against Raditz, but later on receive moves like Spirit Bomb and Kaioken Attack. The moves will have to be unlocked in the same period as they did in the manga/anime. That means you will not have the ability to turn Super Saiyan against Raditz. However, if you want to replay the story mode, you can choose to use custom settings in order to play with all the moves accessible.

Your skill tray will in other words expand during the story mode. All the moves you obtain will automatically be set on your character’s skill tray without any prompt. Then afterwards you may configure your moves like described in Customization 3 – Transformations.

Last Words:
I think that this system could actually be quite nice to have in Tenkaichi 3. The game already offers everything that is needed in order to accomplish this; New moves for transformations and customization.

The difference between Kamiccolo's system and mine is that Kamiccolo wants there to be less moves for each character. Kamiccolo do rather want some of the moves to evolve when transforming, just like in Budokai 3. In my opinion, this is useless, as they have already implanted new moves for each character and their transformations. So why shouldn’t they take advantage of them? :)

Is that so hard to ask? No, it isn't maybe it could offer 40 characters to start with. Actually, I'd rather them keep all the characters from this game....I don't want to go backwards. i would prefeer just a 3d fighting game with characters made just as good as they need to be.

there is a mod of a shooter game, that mixes a little RPG with shooting, of course the mod is about dbz, and after you "kill" somebody you get some points, and when you reach certain level of points, you turn into a super saiyan. is a cool idea. (i know that it has to be original, i was just posting the idea :rolleyes:)

Also I had an idea on something like a "award system" (i love when games push you to finish them to get something cool), it was basically just a "model viewing" at first, models of characters, vehicles, items and stuff. and Maybe some of these items can be equipable by characters (just for fun) (like a halo, or a saiyan scouter), i know that isnt the "best idea of all the time", but i think that it has some potential :rolleyes:.

I suggest that if you go into the GT series, redo entirely. It is an unofficial sequel to Dragon Ball, so if you have a fan version of GT, it wouldn't be an different. GT was just too horrible to have a game where you go though that series:bulb:

Why? GT was creates so many plot holes and many of the battles end with you having to play as Base Goku. It'd be better with an updated version of GT, that stays religious to the original creation of GT but mainly the DragonBall(Z) manga.

Well, you must be aware of that I am not going to make the game physically. This project is all about creating ideas for such a game. Then I will send it to Baker or Ciel, and they might consider sending it to Atari. Bardock Special (preset levels for Bardock and crew)
Pilaf saga (Goku starts at level 1)
Roshi's training for a few months- a side story could go here mabey involving one of the DB movie villans
21st World Tournament (Jakie Chun wins)
Red Ribbon Army Saga
General Blue saga, involves Arale and Penquin Islan
Commander Red saga- training with korin and tao battle
fortune teller baba saga
training for 3 years until the tournament again a good place for a side story
22nd World Tournament (Tien wins/draws with Goku)
king piccolo saga strait after tournament involves Korin training in the place to get the water and ending with Break Though against King Piccolo
3 years training Goku on the lookout, you can use the time room (good for what ifs) and fight popo and kami as Goku ages, also Krillin and the other 3 train with Korin then go off alone again a what if/side story story per character
23rd World Tournament Goku wins some good cutscenes involved
5 years training or chilling out opr whatever a good place for a side story, not involving any enemies but just saving people
Dead Zone, not relly much plot to avoid plotholes but just the battles and a cutscene with Gohan sending Garlic into the dead zone
some time before raditz, you can collect as many Dragonballs as you want but cant make a wish, when you go the Roshi's the saiyan saga officialy beggins
Saiyan saga battle with raditz then seperate training for everyone, time room returns and King kai training more indef look battle against Vegeta, Spirirt bomb and Great apes etc.
Hospital time for the z fighters, and then the namek saga begins soon after saiyan saga involves all filler space ship and fake namek goes until Ginyu force arrive. Goku does his training in the ship (optional) helps make later battles easier time limated meaning you cant train forever.
Ginyu Saga, be eaier if Goku was stronger, ginyu swap and all that stuff, enemies include some of Freiza's soliders for leveling up (like LOG 1)
Freiza saga, non stop all out battles, cant reheal (other than Dende) and watch Freiza go though his forms, and Goku go Super saiyan, also try to escpae from namek mini mission if you beat Freiza quicker you have more time to escape. Invloves Gohan's come back scene and fight.
Garlic Jr saga, no Goku or Vegeta just a mini saga of based on Gohan, can fight humans and animals for training (like LOG2)
The History of Trunks special should activate after Garlic Jr is beaten, you play as Teen trunks and do the androids battle, time skip instead of training when Androids kill Gohan, mabey a Hirudigarn part where Trunks gets his sword and kills Tapion
Trunks saga, short and sweet he kills Freiza and Cold
the 3 years of training after every year (starting with b4 1st year passes) you get to face a movie villian from each of the 3 films (2, 3 and 4) not much plot just battles really to gain leevls
Cooler's Revenge at the end of the training Cooler appears and you must fight him whilst Vegeta's in space training
Goku and Piccolo learn to drive extra mission
Android saga all the fights until Goku wakes up from the virus, Cell is loose and the training hasent started yet
Just before Goku goes and tells Vegeta about the HTC they get a mesaage from New Namek, and go there in a space ship and battle Meta Cooler whilst trunks stays on Earth
New androids 13,14 and 15 are out and Trunks tells Goku about them then the whole movie happens and the Vegeta, Piccolo fish scene must be included
Back on the main plat the Imperfect Cell saga, Vegeta and Trunks (alternate) train in the time chamber whilst Piccolo fights 17 and soon Tien fights Cell in a mini game, you can tarin Vegeta and Trunks seperatly in the HTC whilst the outside events happen
Perfect cell saga, it's easier if Trunks and Vegeta are higher levels of course, their would be cutscenes for cells absorbing the androids and Vegeta's Final Flash, traing for Gohan and Goku you must get Gohan to turn super saiyan
10 days for traing or sight seeeing the world of Z, the Lime and Cyborg Tao scenario's for Gohan are optional, and Goku's meating with Tao to get the ball's is a must do, Dende becomes gurdiam good area for a side story
Paragus lands during these days and the Broly movie happens
Cell games saga, the higher levels the eaier it will be, you can choose who you start of with (not just Goku) after the Hercule fight but Gohan fights next. Giant Cell death cutscene / mini game.
Trunks goes back to the future to destroy the androids easiley and then Cell 3 years later (time skip or mabey a side story or movie what if battle)
Trunks come back to tell eveyone and enters the Tournament, this is where the Bojack scenerio happens
7 Year skip, mbey a few side stories to fill the void or something, meanwhile Goku battles Pikkon and the bad guys in HFIL
Gohan now goes to school and the Great Saiyman saga begins, he traing Videl and Goten and trunks and goten turn super
Broly the second coming is set here, mabey some side stories of how they got the other balls like in Buu's Fury

I have a fanfic called Re:GT. It's just GT tweaked up and canon to the manga. It still has all the major villain arcs (Baby, Super 17, Shadow Dragon) but they are reworked. For example, when SSJ4 Goku reverts back to his base form after fighting Baby, he is adult size again (what should have happened in the anime). It may sound like a risky shot, but maybe you could give a few of my chapters a read? You could advertise your game with saying "An all new GT series" with your game.

Please use the -Edit button next time;) I do not agree with the last idea of yours. Then the first game would be good, DBZ would be better and DBGT best. It just wouldn't fit properly. I think they should rather focus at combining all the series into a single game. Then people would not have to buy several games in order to obtain their favorite characters:up:

i got a few ideas and things knocking around my head if you dont mind me putting them forward =]

Here are a few ideas of mine

1) The game should be an Action RPG, and should consist of being able to have several fighters on your team (once in the Z saga I suppose).

2) You could equip weapons (to some exclusive fighters) and training clothing/alt costumes to characters. For example, if Goku has his Power Pole equipped, his combo scheme changes. Instead of punching and kicking, he mainly attacks with his weapon. Weighted clothing slows you down and slightly weakens you.

3) There should be a "Z Break Out" mode where the fighting gameplay speeds up and your enviorment slows down, once your energy bar is beyond full, that should mimic the fighting of the show. Of course, after a few moments, you'll return to your normal fighting speeds

4) Your character should have a certain "Physical Health" meter. The more you get hit, the more it goes down, and the less succesful your combos are. Of course, training your character would build stamina for your "Physical Health" meter.
