This is a fun thread in which you can post things people may not know about an amusement park/ride.
I'll start:
Did you know that there is a cemetary in the King's Dominion parking lot?
Logan_ECW

I've got one:
Did you know that Blue Streak at Cedar Point was named after the high school athletics team, the Sandusky Blue Streaks?

That's weird, I don't remember there being a cemetary in Kings Dominion's parking lot. Did you know that Top Gun at Carowinds was originally going to be themed to Godzilla?

^ya,i remember seeing something of that sort when i went there, came home and did some research and found it really is a cemetary.it is all the way in the back i think to the right, don't reallly remember.there is a myth that when people jumped off the eifel tower in the center of the park, they buried them there.(THATS FALSE,BTW)
here's another one: Six Flags Over Georgia is haunted.Ghost Hunters went there last October and found that the Crystal Pistol has some paranormal activity going on inside. One ghost hunter even claimed to have seen an apparition of a farmer wearing overalls with a pitchfork standing in the attraction. The ghost hunter even claims she has a picture...Spooky...

Did you know that the Steel Force logo was originally intended for the Mantis at Cedar Point. The Mantis was to be called "Banshee", but the name dropped in favor of Mantis. The Banshee logo was no longer appropriate after the name change so it was used the following year on the Steel Force.

Did you know that GASM at SFGAdv was originally intended to be named Ninja, since many Six Flags coasters were getting that name at the time, but instead it stole the name from the woodie at SFoG?

Did you know that the Kenywood Steel Phantom (1991-2000), now the Phantom's Revenge, was the fastest continuous circut steel coaster in the U.S. for seven years, I think.

Did you know that in the 1940s there was a coal miner who had Aphonia that made him mute.
He went to Coney Island and rode the Cyclone and
when the train was pulling back into the station he said his first words: "I feel sick".

Did you know that the large house overlooking the parking lot at Cedar Point belongs to the CEO of Cedar Fair, and was built the year he took over that role?
Did you know that the opening of Avalanche Run (now Disaster Transport) was delayed for more than 1 month because Intamin sent the wrong cars, and Cedar Point had to modify them to fit the track? The modified cars were replaced with the proper cars for the second year of the ride.
Did you know that, when it comes to the Guessing Game, you may have fooled the rest, but you probably haven't fooled the best, and you can't call it winning until you've fooled the best? Of course, I am the best Guesser posting on this message board today!

Or how about:
Did you know that on the right hand posts of the guard rail directly at the beginning of Mean Streak's main hill, one of the Carpenters retiring this year carved the names of his three kids into the wood: Andrea, Monica, and Kevin.

Did you know Elitch Gardens Theme Park is entering its 117th season?
Harpo
05-31-2007, 11:01 AM
Elitch is just a rookie. Of course, it's also not in its original location.
(Cedar Point opened in 1870, so this year is the park's 138th season. It's the second oldest continuously-operating amusement park in the United States. The oldest is Lake Compounce, which opened in 1846, and is currently owned by Kennywood Entertainment. Some years, Lake Compounce only opened for a couple of days, but it has opened at some point for every year since 1846.)

Did you know that the Wilderness Lodge at WDW is made of leftover wood from the eruption of Mt St Helens?
Just offhand, what's your source for this? Wilderness Lodge was built in the early 90s, at least a decade after the St. Helens eruption... most of the wood in it is fake.
Did you know that the entire Magic Kingdom at WDW would fit inside the Kilamanjaro Safari ride at Animal Kingdom?

On the Disney Cruise Line(magic), they had a trivia game on the disney parks. One of the questions was "What makes the wood special at the Wilderness Lodge". My team said it was wood from Asia, but the answer was it was wood from the St. Helens Eruption. Maybe you are right and Disney just lied to get more attention to the Wilderness Lodge. It does sound wierd and your response does seem to prove them wrong...
Squid2
06-02-2007, 04:04 PM
They could have saved the wood for that long... unlikely, but possible. And I wouldn't doubt that they would have gotten the wood for some future use when the eruption happened. So I could be wrong. If they're right... wow.
Did you know that Six Flags Over Georgia used to be a dairy farm, and that some of the buildings from the farm are still standing and being used?

Squid2
yup,and what i posted above about the apparition of a man in overalls with a pitchfork in the crystal pistol is suspected to be a farmer from the dairy farms that use to sit on what is now SFOG's property.
Squid2
06-02-2007, 04:28 PM
What I find interesting about that is that the Crystal Pistol was built for the park... it's not one of the original buildings. So why would it be haunted by a farmer? (I'm going to ask some of the techs and people I know at SFoG and see if they've heard anything about it being haunted.)
Did you know that the 1st looping coaster was built in 1846 in Frascati Gardens in Paris? It was called the Centrifugal Railway and only operated for a short time.

Did you know (and this used to be supersized in my sig) that when you are at the New Orleans train station in Disneyland (CA), the telegraph message being sent in the background is the speech that was given by Walt Disney the day the park opened? And guess what, it keeps playing over and over and over...

If left alone too long, it has been known to go bouncing off of rubber walls. I just hate to think about my sanity.... out there.... somewhere.... all alone.... lost.... wondering if I'll come to find it."

Yes :) Hehe.
Did you know that most, if not all, Disney rides that replace someting have a tribute somewhere on the ride?
You probably did, but here are a few you may not have known about-
For instance, on Winnie The Pooh at Disneyland, which replaced The Country Bear Jamboree.
http://yesterland.com/images-background/nods_cbjheads.jpg
Or in Indiana Jones and the Temple Of The Forbidden Eye? I hear you say, 'that didn't replace an attraction!' but it did replace a car park! The Eeyore car park!
http://yesterland.com/images-background/nods_indianajones.jpg
High up in the rafters, in the projection room, in the darkness,
http://yesterland.com/images-background/nods_eeyore.jpg
A nod to Midget Autopia in the current Autopia -
http://yesterland.com/images-background/nods_midgetautopia.jpg
'Swisskapolka' playing in Tarzan's Treehouse -
http://yesterland.com/images-background/nods_swisskapolka.jpg
What about the Mighty Microscope Star Tours? Next time you ride it, take a look out in the bottom right hand corner near the start of the ride, when you go through the maintenece doors, and dodge the crane, THERE!
The remains of Mine Train Thru Nature's Wonderland?
http://yesterland.com/images-background/nods_minetrain.jpg
There are so many more, as well as LOADS of nods throughout all of the American parks to House Of The Future.
Finally one you probably know about, the Horizons logo on Mission:Space, in the middle of that huge rotating-space station thing in the queue.

Did you know that Silver Dollar City all started with a cave? The cave used to be called Marble Cave (it is now Marvel Cave). The Herschend family gave tours of the cave for years. Mary Herschend after her husband Hugo had deceased, built a train system that would pull guests up to the top of the cave so they wouldn't have to walk all the way up.
It was very popular. The Herschend family then decided to build an old-time Ozark frontier town. It had 5 shops, a old wilderness church, a log cabin, and a street show. Each year more and more people came and they were able to build rides and more shops. Thus, Silver Dollar City was born.
