Elimination Challenge

This is a team-based elimination challenge. Teams remain the same as in your immunity challenge.

Team Ruby has won immunity, and cannot be exiled. Ruby has the option to sit out this challenge, if they so wish... Continued participation is encouraged, however.

You will be creating a Huss "Land of the Giants" area for an existing amusement park.

Map size is restricted to 50x50.

Your map must include a midway that travels from one edge of the map to another. Invisible entrances are suggested for peep entry along both sides of the midway. Invisible entrances will not count against your custom scenery limits.

You may use up to 10 custom scenery sets. Same rules apply as before... (IE: Main Street 1, 2, and 3 are 3 different sets)

Your theme must fit into one of the amusement parks existing areas. You will choose to theme your rides to fit the "Wild West" section of the park, or the "1950's Boardwalk" area. Interpret these areas as you wish.

You will theme 3 giant Huss flat rides: a Giant Discus, Pounding Surf, and a Claw of Doom. No other rides or attractions will be permitted on the map. Rides should be within close proximity of eachother. They do not have to be aligned down the midway, you may create a 'courtyard' of rides off of the midway.

The park has also requested an adjacent food location and restroom renovation that completes the area.

This will be the park's new area for the coming year, so the appropriate steps should be taken to draw attention to this area of the park.

Each ride will be given a theme-appropriate name by teams. Billboards for these ride names/logos are permitted. Please limit billboard usage to 3 different images... one for each ride. (This is more to save headache for me getting them to load properly for filming) Teams are encouraged to use RCTManiac's new billboards custom scenery pack for visual impact. Any custom billboards WILL count in the 10-CS count... in-game billboards will not, obviously.

The focus will be on the rides themselves, as you learned in the Immunity challenge. Remember that if your team begins to stray off course.

No ride may be completely enclosed.

In this elimination challenge, the bottom 2 teams will be exiled.

WOW! Ytivarg, you really stuck it to them :) they should get pretty creative with this one since no ride may be completely enclosed. It definitely is a elimination challenge that should challenge all of them. Best of luck to all of you, and judging from the last round none of you will disappoint any of us. Great job ytivarg and rctmaniac on thinking this out, and great job on the videos ytivarg. I do have a questions that might help the contestants (even though I am not participating). If teams are encouraged to use RCTManiacs' new Custom Scenery pack and any custom billborads pack WILL count as 1 of the 10 CS sets, does that mean using RCTManiacs CS will also count as 1 of the 10 CS sets (I have a feeling the answer was yes but thought I would ask anyway)? Some other questions I am sure will come up is if Custom lighting and Particle effects count as Custom Scenery?

That should answer the question, since it seems you might have overlooked that part. Understandable with these great videos Ytivarg is pumping out. Grav what video editing software do you use to edit these video's? I am still jealous of you already having been on Maverick:pout:. I plan on taking my wife and kids to Cedar Point this year or next year (we are going to buy the season pass for Cedar Point and Kings Island):D. I haven't been to Cedar Point since Millenium Force first opened up, so I will have some coaster catching up to do;). So I am looking forward to going and riding MaxAir, Wicked Twister, Top Thrill Dragster, SkyHawk, and Maverick when we go. We have just gone to Kings island the last few years while saving money for things (KI only 2 hours away CP 5 or 6 hours) but we certainly have missed the annual trips to Cedar Point.

"Interpret these areas as you wish." As long as it's instantly recognizable as either "Wild West" or "1950's Boardwalk"... you're good. If it's not easily recognizable, then back to the drawing board.

As long as they are non-functioning, and do not detract from the main focus that is the 3 rides. Remember, your video will focus on the 3 rides and how you've themed them...

No, that's taking it a bit too far. If you're using track pieces as scenery, that's another story... adding an entire coaster is going over the line. Besides the fact, that you're not focusing on the 3 rides that you should be. Don't waste your time with stuff that I'm not going to film, and then everybody cries over because it didn't get shown. I've told you what the focus is.. stick to it.

Cool vegas 4.0, I am currently looking into some video editing software. I haven't done too much looking yet, but I hope to get something soon. I don't want to spend a rediculous amount, but I also don't want to go cheap and hear the coined famous phrase "You get what you pay for":weird:

Well I asked because I searched "Huss Land of Giants" in google. One of the images I got was this:

As you can see to the right hand side, the flat appears to be a Top Spin. I didnt know if you had wanted to say "Top Spin" and said "Pounding Surf" by accident, or whether you deliberately wanted "Pounding Surf."

About the TNT, I asked cause the ride looked so similar to the Discus just in a more specific theme.

The size of the Pounding Surf is more accurate to the Huss Land of the Giants than the tiny lil' top spin is. That is why I went with that.... and working in that ugly blue wave is a challenge in itself.

The TNT Vortex falls into the same idea... it's far too small for a proper Land Of The Giants scenario...

And, having all teams using the same 3 rides provides a much cleaner slate to compare the theming.

Certin sets have differant 'sub sets' in the same scenery tab. For instance the set in question has 3 sub sets in 'walls'.. Would that set be counted as 1 set or 3? :D

Also, where are these Invisible Park entrances located. Can't you just use injection points to get guests into the park? If a set is broken up under fences/walls/items/foliage.. that's a different story. That's still one set.

If under, walls for example, there is a seperate tab for 2 or more different parts.. then that's two or more different sets.

We can't do this "But it all came in one download" thing... because then everything that came with NetOn would be one set.... you see where I'm going with this?

I believe peeps must pass through a park entrance before they will ride the rides (someone correct me if I'm wrong)... the invisible park entrance is a CS download, but I don't remember who did it... or you can do the underground entrance cheat.

I get your question Judge. I asked a similar one last round using Vohdin's Vermont theme as an example. The Vermont theme includes "Vermont Pieces", "Lights", "Log Cabin Walls", ect. and rctmaniac said it counted as one set because it all came in one download. With that in mind we ended up using The Cook's Altantis Vaulting becuase it also included the Atlantis Extra's subset in the same download.

Edit: From the sound of ytivarg's post, it seems I was mislead last round.:pout: But I know I'd never download any of those mega-CS downloads anyway.

Yea and as I said in the Pm, The set i was reffering to is broken up into many differant folders in the 'themed' folder. So I have added the (now sets) to my growing list of CS lol...

As far as it goes I dont think it should be as a download = a set. ( I said that without thinking) But more like folders in themed folder. If its 1 folder in the themed folder its 1 set.
For instance: Shyguys Circus center set 1 is 1 folder in themed. I think thats 1 set even tho it has objects in the other tabs... Correct me If im wrong... :D

I think im just going to follow a rule of thumb on this and go along as I have it in this post. If its 1 folder in the themed folder then its 1 set. More then 1 folder then I gotta make room for those sets in my cs list LOL...
Again tho If I am wrong please let me know. I would never break any rules intentionally..

And Lux, As far as the Inv park entrances I think the pack is by Das Matze.. (atleast thats the invsiable park entrance that i have...)

It doesn't matter how many votes they have or don't have, or whether they participate or don't.

Immunity means you can't lose, it's not a get out of jail card to use IF you lose.

As far as my weakness' , Hmm I would have to say its whatever I haven't built (AKA some themes I have avoided LOL). So many differant themeing options and I havent tried them all much less mastered them... I think i have a few 'mastered' but time will tell...
My strongest points are those few themes that i have locked down pretty good IMO and custom coasters..

Yea and as I said in the Pm, The set i was reffering to is broken up into many differant folders in the 'themed' folder. So I have added the (now sets) to my growing list of CS lol...

As far as it goes I dont think it should be as a download = a set. ( I said that without thinking) But more like folders in themed folder. If its 1 folder in the themed folder its 1 set.
For instance: Shyguys Circus center set 1 is 1 folder in themed. I think thats 1 set even tho it has objects in the other tabs... Correct me If im wrong... :D

I think im just going to follow a rule of thumb on this and go along as I have it in this post. If its 1 folder in the themed folder then its 1 set. More then 1 folder then I gotta make room for those sets in my cs list LOL...
Again tho If I am wrong please let me know. I would never break any rules intentionally..

And Lux, As far as the Inv park entrances I think the pack is by Das Matze.. (atleast thats the invsiable park entrance that i have...)

The folder rule is a good rule of thumb... that's the easy way of explaining what I meant. ;)

Hey grav, this time around, in addition to park files and pictures, can we submit a short description of the new area so people know what is going on when they see it?

You know how when a park adds a new area to an existing one, they always have some sort of hook to get people in.

I would not count an animal enclosure as a ride... but, you've now singled yourself out as wanting to have one.. if only one entry has animals... poof.. we know who did it... but anyone else might throw in animals too... you've got a double edged sword now. ;)

And, don't expect much filming on the animals, if they go in... they'll just be background.

For boardwalks, some of the best in the country are on the east coast, New Jersey, North Carolina, Virginia, etc. Might want to take a look some if you need to.

My take on it would be to make an area remenicint of Coney Island, or beach-front areas along the coasts. Maybe a circa 1950's surfer town or something. Just some ideas to throw out there.. ;)

As for something else I'd like to bullet-point in the challenge... you need to give theme-appropriate NAMES to each of the 3 rides.... you are proposing this theming plan to the amusement park, and they want suggested names for these attractions.

If anything, look at this challenge as a Planning & Design proposal to the big wigs in charge of the park... that's what I want to see out of you guys. "NEW FOR 2008: *insert your entry here*"

I'm excited to see what you guys can do now that the reigns are loosened a bit more..

Having the rides on opposite sides of the map kinda defeats the 'land of the giants' idea...

"Land of the Giants" is a term Huss used to market their giant thrill rides together as a package.. all of the rides are pretty close together, and similarly themed (at least as a cohesive themed area).

Unless you're making your Land of the Giants take up the entire map, then putting them at opposite ends of the map probably wouldn't be the best plan.

That is the same reason I asked my question. With our current plans, the rides need a certain degree of distance between them for the themeing (which will obviously play a huge part in this challenge).

I am kinda worried about how the votes will be done this round tho. I am sure many members will vote for the one they liked the most thinking thats how the votes are counted. I think personally that the voteing should stay the same every round to avoide any type of problems when the voteing is taking place... anyone else have that thought?


I considered exactly the same thing, if people just click the video watch it and rate without paying attention to the instructions in the post we may have a problem.

I think Boston has the right idea here... while it's not a recreation, it is a theming spin on the original idea. It's really a rethemed recreation... if you guys want to deviate from that, you'll be at the mercy of the voters. They will see that you were asked to create a Land of the Giants, and compare that to your entry.

As far as other shops go, they can be added, but don't expect a ton of filming to be done on them. Again, the focus here is the ride package themselves. When you see a promo ad for new rides at a theme park... they don't spend much time showing you what new shops they'll have, do they? Nope.. it's all about the rides..

Yes, but the fact remains that its still in the same layout of the concept.

Here's what i think this challenge is all about:

A park has 2 areas inside that are not pulling in enough people, the Wild West section and the 1950's Boardwalk land. It is your job to revamp the area by adding in a Huss Land of Giants area, and refurbishing the restaurant and the restroom facilities. While each ride experience is important, they still need to be united under a common theme with a common set of names. You are adding onto an existing area of the theme park, so some buildings should look like they've been there for a while. The new additions should be fairly close to one another, as they are being presented in a package for the park to choose on. When a (real) park generally opens a triad of rides, they are quite close to one another to create a visual buzz that gets people to that area of the park. The same applies here - you are trying to pull people to this area of the park, while still holding to the theme of that area.

Is that about right?

I think the gaps between rides should be about 15 spaces as a general rule of thumb. Really, the only thing that wouldn't work so well is if you put each thrill ride in a seperate corner. Don't overanalyze this aspect - just keep them within reach of the public, thats who you are trying to 'impress'.

Think about it this way, do you enjoy walking a long distance to get from one ride to another in the same themed area? I don't know if anybody does!

On the positive side I will be taking a trip to Holiday World in the next couple of weeks and ride Raven, Legend, and Voyage:D. Then later this summer we will be hitting Kings Island so I can get my Beast fix, first ride on Firehawk etc.:up:

Unfortunately won't get to make the trip to Cedar Point until next year when we buy the Maxx pass for KI and CP.:D

I know it probably hasn't been much due to editing the videos for Survivor, but I figured you might have done a little while they are working on the current Elimination Challenge (at least until you have to edit videos again.

My wife and I were debating on getting Maxx passes this year. We have to buy for 4 people however (2 of our kids and ourselves) and we decided against it this year. We only decided against because we probably wouldn't have been able to make more than 1 trip to either park this year. Next year however the money is already going to be taken out of our tax check:up:. So next year Cedar Point here we come for more than 1 visit. Probably will put some money back for a stay at Breakers also ;)

No.. it doesn't have to be called Land of the Giants... but once again, make sure you give each ride it's own unique name. The park name is not important whatsoever.

Last I heard, they were planning on filming POV this week.. but I've heard little else than that. Employees are generally called out for film shoots to get stills and/or video (easily signed waivers for likeness rights, we all keep our arms down, etc)... but I haven't seen anything come down the pipeline calling for film shoot riders.... granted, Maverick has been kind of a special scenario what with all the track replacement and late opening... so it's anyone's guess when an official one will be coming... but I'm sure it will be soon.

I think 4 billboards would be a good idea... I hadn't thought of the desire of having the fourth... but it does increase the creativity a bit. Go for it.

Unfortunately my partner is on vacation, but luckly gave me 3 download links to download the park. Unfortunately, whenever I try and download them and then open up Roller Coaster Tycoon 3, it does not show up in the parks section, nor the scenarios section. If it didn't work in that, then I doubt it'll work in the "Start New Scenarios" section". Although, I may be downloading the file incorrectly. I save it, then extract.

Am I doing something wrong here? Please help me!

Yeah and grav I can't believe someone was complaining about it. It was rather fast and was 1 word, some people I swear. I bet had you not put in the disclaimer most wouldn't have even noticed except for those who know the song well. I would like to see a couple other tracks from Minutes to Midnight show up. I am confident you will choose some good music however as you haven't disappointed yet.

Seriously, for a bunch of privileged kids, they sure do have a lot to whine about. But i'll save my musical opinions for another time...no wait one more thing - Doesn't it seem like the tracks go polar opposite every other song? Hard whine rock to soft emo ballad. Ok ok ok, i'll stop.

I know some people like it, but the songs to me just don't have any dimension. But grav, i will say you did an excellent job compiling the video.
