Hi!
I'm sure everybody now that the generic category is overload with the most of the CSO's. Especially the wall section. So how can we fix it? Shall creators add their set to the category which fit best or shall they add they their CSO's to the emptiest category? We can put the sets to other types of objects too like the terrainblocks or benches. What's your meaning?
DasMatze
I think they should add their sets to the category it fits best. And they should make only one group per set and category.

can't you add a new category for cs only?
like lucky girl did for the plants in her set..

maybe put all of each creators pack in a separate group? that way its shorter, and you can just search through one creators packs and not have to go thorough 80 others just to get to it. example:
-Jcat
--worx
---space
---dark ride
---steel
--blox
-shyguy
--mainstreet
---#1
---#2
---#3
---#4
---#5
just a thought.

yea mike make a mickey mouse head in the theme selection and put all the disney stuff in there.... shyguys sets ext...
But the sets can't be grouped anymore, I think, only if the creators update the sets.

First, let me remind everyone that you can move scenery in and out of the themed folder as needed, depending on the park you are working on (only move when RCT3 isn't running). It is relatively easy to make a short cut to the Themed folder on your desktop, and also make a new folder next to it for sets not in use- Just drag and drop the folders from one to the other as you like.
What DasMatze is talking about is the theme types: Generic, Western,Space, etc. You can hide and show sets based on what theme types are enabled (click the little icons at the top to enable/disable different ones). My Oz set that is in the works will be a Space type, mainly because it has so much in it (well, 5 sets in one download, actually).
Other CS authors might want to consider using the other theme types, like Western or Adventure, for new sets to help sort out the list.

Can you change the categories of existing set? For example, Screamworx goes in generic, but I want it in spooky. Is this possible?

Only by recompiling the set from it's .thm file.

what would be good if all of the top cs makers could re-relece there cs sets all in sub folders under the name, so you would click on there name then the set.
pluss it makes it easyer for noobys to download cs as there will be all of there packs in one set, which would save them a lot of time.

But (I believe) sub-folders aren't possible. If you're all thinking of LG's Harbour Set with the plants, I think that was a category already created in RCT3 intending to be used, but it never was, but still existed. All LG had to do was select the scebery type of 'plants' in the importer, and then her stuff was the first to use that category. Someone correct me if I'm wrong here...
Just do what Vodhin says - nobody could possibly need all CS sets at one time, so temporarily move the ones you don't need. Just keep the main ones (e.g. JCat's, Vodhin's, Shyguy's, Cook's, etc...) there all the time, and more specific ones which you probably won't need as often only move them to your Themed folder when you need them.
There might be a breakthrough in a short time! I hope I found out how to find the byte, but not sure. I have to test it with some more sets, but if I'm right, it shouldn't be a problem to make a program to change it easy for everyone.

I hope your right errt. I already stick mine in the group that makes the most sence. But please don't stick everything in another tab becasue then that one will get crowded out.
Looking good. I'm about 99% sure that I know how to find the byte, and I started programming now. With a bit of luck the program will be available for everyone in one or two weeks. Then everyone can re-group his CSO just like he wants.

Kool I hope it all goes well cause that will be usefull!
But do you mean each cs USER or DESIGNER
I mean each USER. The designers can choose the theme when importing. But with this tool, every USER should be able to take a set, let's say the Mainstreet Sets, and pack it into the western category ;)

Nice!
Is the possibly the addition of extra tabs or just the current ones!

Only the current ones. The categories are hardcoded into the game.
Perhaps I schould try setting the byte on 9? (8 is the highest category^^)
The program seems to work, so it should be released tomorrow.

well first i think we need to work on the versions that will give us a lot of more space, take shyguys mainstreet pack. he has 5 versions , what if he makes them again in 1 version so we can remove the others en place that single one. take jcats's steelworx, mouseworx and screamworx. if we put that also in one set it is again a lot of space saving. and if we just take all the cs packs created of one person and put it in one set we sure did a lot of space saving, but we have to search for some kind of things but that is something we have to deal with then.
But you won't be able to load parks biuld with the old versions then. So you have to keep them and - now have 6 mainstreet and 4 worx-packs...

no not if you search for every pack that has 2 or more version, you just select them and delete them if the creator makes the pack again in just 1 version and puts all the things in it we don't have to worry about anything.

Great idea. However:
I don't think the makers would want to redo everything again.

actually they don't have to....
they just have to search for their old .thm files get them back save all .ovl files (if they didn't do that before) make a new .thm file and save the scenery again or they just take all the files out of all the maps and put them into one file but that will give us a error if we did that.

Oh okay. See I did not know how to make CS as I don't have the stuff. But I want to get it.

ok i explain it to u...
.ovl files are the files rct3 uses for the scenery. (following me so far???)
.thm files are the files you save from the importer like saving a pic most of all the time it says .JPEG (get it???)
so .ovl files are from rct3 and .thm are from the importer

well i am making my first cs set now and it is going great at the moment and i just starting a new version of it but with hotel walls and maybe some casino walls because the first set i am working on is just for entrances, but i was thinking that no one made a hotel set before so i am releasing the entrance set on july 10th and the other set u make for august i think and then i put it all in one set. i think if cs makers would think about that before we wouldn't be making this thread bigger and bigger, however i think we just learn from our mistakes don't you think?

My understanding is that the importer sets up a specific 'path' that the game engine follows to access every CS item. If you change that path, the item won't work. Combining all of shyguy's five sets into one would change the path wouldn't it?
I think a combined single set would work fine for any new parks, but I don't think it will work for any of your old ones, or any you download that used the original set. And I'm not going back to replace every single original object with one from a new 'combined' set. I may very well be incorrect in how the files work, but I don't think it's a easy thing to change.

Crikey, you should be enormously thankful to errt for managing to create something which will allow us finally choose what themes to put CS sets under how we won't, but no, you seem to think that isn't enough. Not all CS makers have them thm. files still, not all can be bothered, and I'm sure most would not want all they're stuff in the same set anyway.
Multiple sets for the same stuff can be good in many ways. If you consider Vodhin's Vermont Theme, he split his up into different sections. Each appears as a different set in RCT3, but it really helps with keeping everything organized. I'm doing a similar thing with v2 of my particles set, splitting all particcles up into their own groups, so there will be a set for fountains, a set for smoke, a set for waterfalls, etc... And anyway, you wouldn't want a huge long list to look through of about 300 items for each set, would you?
@{Freak}Rct3: You don't understand. A repackaged set is a new set. You won't be able to open parks built with the single versions. So you would have to keep them. wabigbear explained it quite good.
