I know that this might sound stupid. But how do you get the custom scenery to actually work in your game. I have done it twice, once with SteelWorx and with some chain lift thing. But I don't know how I did it. It's causing me great stress. I know how to upload games and tracks for your computer. But not this.
Plez help Thanx

I know. But the thing is I can't figure out how it works. Like it's not making since. I'm trying the best I can but its not showing up. I just don't know what the instructions mean. I can't find the files its looking for or anything.

The way scenery in the game works is that the game engine needs to follow a specific path to find where the scenery file is stored. That path was created when the scenery file was made. It can not be altered or changed. So if the file isn't in the exact spot the game thinks it should be when it follows that path, you get error messages or the game crashes.

The most common way the path gets altered is when custom scenery is installed. Either it is placed in the wrong spot, or somehow an extra folder was created.

All custom scenery goes into one specific spot on your computer. Remember things like custom particle effects are not CS, and go somewhere else.

You probably installed RCT3 on you computer in the default spot. That means it is on your "C:" drive. If you are running Windows XP, you'll probably have a icon on your desktop for My Computer, double click it to open.

There will now be a list of different drives and parts of your machine. Find C: drive and double-click to open.

Now you have a list of different folders, look for Program Files, and open that one as well.

Here's now a list of all the different programs installed on your computer. Look for the folder labeled Atari.

Now inside there you should have the folder for your version of Rollercoaster Tycoon 3, go ahead and open it.

Now you'll see a series of folders that contain the files necessary to play your game. Scroll down and find the one labeled Style, and open it.

Most CS will need to be installed in the Themed folder, open it. Now you'll see all the individual folders for each set of scenery. Some are custom, some came with the game. Go ahead and pick one to look at by double-clicking to open it.

Now, any and all scenery requires a couple things in order to work. The need two specific OVL files (one called style.common and one called style.unique), and then there will be one or more files or folders which are the actual scenery files. The important thing are those two OVL files. If you see them, look up at the top of the page and note the address shown. That address is the path the game follows to find the files it needs. It should say:

C:\Program Files\Atari\RollerCoaster Tycoon 3\Style\Themed\(Name of the set)

Sometimes when installing a set of custom scenery, an extra folder will be created...the best way to explain it is that in your Themed folder there should be a folder holding the two OVL files and the object files. When an extra folder is created, then in your Theme folder there will be a folder, holding ANOTHER folder, holding the two OVL files and the object files. You can check this by again finding those two OVL files (style.common and style.unique), and looking at the address at the top of the page, if there's an error and an extra folder it will read:

C:\Program Files\Atari\RollerCoaster Tycoon 3\Style\Themed\(Name of the set)\(Name of the set)

Notice how (Name of the set) shown twice? That means there's an extra folder.

You can fix that by moving the entire (Name of the set) folder out of Themed to your desk top, then move the ONE (Name of the set) folder that holds the two OVL files you need back into the Themed folder.

Confusing? Yes, indeed it is. It's also difficult to explain how to do it. I hope this helps, and post any questions here. But if you are still completely lost, then I would suggest NOT downloading any Custom Scenery until you understand the process. Good Luck!

Glad to hear that it seems to work for you now. Once you've installed a few custom scenery sets you'll have the process down fine. Occasionally one may come along that is a problem, but if you understand the whole process you can usually figure things out. Good luck and welcome to the forums!

READ THE STICKYES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What sort of advise is that??? Nobody will bother to listen to you because:

1) You're shouting, which is very rude not only to new people but to anyone.

2) It's a new member you're talking to, so you can't expect them to know everything instantly. You're acting like you've told this one person millions of times, which is very unfair.

3) You haven't even spelt 'stickies' right, so even if they DID follow your advise, it would still lead them nowhere.

If you can't help somebody usefully, then don't bother helping at all.
