You should point out that you rarely need a uvmapper. In most cases the 3D modeller does a better job at that.

Depends, most 3d modellers I've used I have to make a uvmap for the model :/

Thanks for this, very handy.
I found that Milkshape's UV Mapper was the best.

Didn't know milkshape had a uvmapper :p added it to this list, and no prob glad you found it handy.

As I said, most modellers can uv-map :p
Sketchup can do basic uv-mapping and Blender has pretty advanced uv-mapping features. Don't know about the others, but I'm nearly sure that 3dsmax and maya can as well.

Ok :) now I see what you mean, I haven't found the uvmapping sketchup yet :(

Belgabor

Sketchup automatically creates an UV-map when you assign a bitmap texture to the model. In fact is has to, otherwise it couldn't use the bitmap texture =)
You're editing this uv-map when you're realigning the texture (Right-Click, Texture->Position).

For the hosting: Everybody can get his sets hosted at RCT-Net and I think it's the same with the Vodhin-Community and RCT-Revalutions. That's better than using a fileupload service, as the files are not deleted.

If anyone needs CS sets hosted let me know.

Also, 3ds Max does have an advanced UV mapper.

Lithunwrap works with alot of files, but not sketchup, sketchup has a uvmapper built in that's alot easier than lithunwrap, just apply the texture, slect and right click the face > texture then drag the pins.

coasterbuilder4
01-19-2008, 08:13 AM
right i've applied some texture but where do i go from there?

sr3d
01-19-2008, 10:15 AM
can you explain in more detail what you've done? have you applied it and adjusted the pins or just applied it?

coasterbuilder4
01-19-2008, 10:38 AM
applied it then ajusted a red blue yellow or green pin depending on which face it is on. I got to this by right clickig on the face and going to texture then position.

ok, that's fine now all you need to do is group it and export like normal :)

unsure how to group and where to export it to. I'm a noob to CS making.

Belgabor

It's shareware. It works for 30 days without registering (which costs 25$ iirc).

Nice choice and list, but I believe that GMax (Free) could be included in '3D Programs' and Google Pages can be labeled in 'Hosters'. However for pages you must have a Gmail account. You get only 100mb, but you can keep creating more sites so it is technically unlimited. If I go into CS, I'll use that because I know some or many hate Rapidshare and/or Megaupload.

I'm not sure GMax is compatible actually, and the license is a bit dodgy. I'll add google pages later on today.

i wanted to import a simple texture in rct3. i did everything that the tutorial said but then i get this
http://img83.imageshack.us/img83/9974/import.jpg
it sais; Error from image library (during OLV creation); Magick; memory allocation failed (unable to sort image colormap) reported by magick/quantize.c:1791 (GrayscalePseudoClassImage)
what should i do?

Moby
06-28-2009, 04:56 PM
^^Usually just the installer is needed.

^Have you imported any textures successfully yet? Is the texture square and the size a multiple of 2?

TOTfan
06-29-2009, 02:17 PM
^ no i never imorted anything successfully. the texture is square.

Moby

ok it's square but what are the dimensions?

Make a 64x64 plain black bmp in paint and see if that works.
