after you download the spaceworx file, how do you transfer it to the game?

The following was posted by wabigbear & explains this better than I could:

The thing to remember is that the game engine is designed so it follows a specific path to access each scenery file. If that path is alter - by placing the file in the wrong spot or extra files being created - the game is unable to access the file.

The most common error is where an extra folder holding the CS files is created. The way to check for this is to navigate to where Scenery folders are stored. Most people will know how to access this, but I'll lay out the steps for those who may not be sure:

If you are running XP, you probably have an icon on your desktop called "MyComputer", double-click that icon to open.

Most people have the game installed on it's default position, so find where it lists your hard drives and find "(C: )", double-click on that entry to open.

Now you need to find a folder named "Program Files", again double-click to open.

Among the individual folders should be one labeled "Atari", go ahead and double-click to open.

Inside you'll find the folder for "RollerCoaster Tycoon 3", open that.

Inside are lot's of files and folders required in the game, scroll down and find the one labeled "Style", double-click to open it.

Customs Scenery goes in the folder entitled "Themed", yep, go ahead and open that one too.

Here you will see all the different scenery folders - in-game and custom. This is where you place your custom scenery folders. Find the folder for the set you are having problems with and open it.

This is the important part, as soon as you open that folder you will see one or more files or folders that are the actual individual object files PLUS there should be two OVL files...one named Style.common and the other Style.unique.

Those two OVL files MUST be there for your CS to function properly. That's where the path the game follows to access them says they must be. If they aren't, then usually an extra folder has been created during the zip process.

If the two OVL files are missing, is there instead just a folder with the name of the scenery set on it present?

I thought so. Go ahead and open that folder. Chances are when you open it you'll find those two missing OVL files plus the actual sscenery files/folders.

What's this mean? Well, the path the game is looking for when you see those two OVL files is C:\Program Files\Atari\RollerCoaster Tycoon 3\Style\Themed\Set (you can see the path up at the top of your screen).

The path if there's an extra folder will show C:\Program Files\Atari\RollerCoaster Tycoon 3\Style\Themed\Set\Set. Note how that folder at the end appears twice? We need to get rid of that extra layer. It's simple to do...

Find the folder that holds the two OVL files (along with the actual object files/folders that were there with them.) and drag that entire folder to your desktop.

Now in Style\Themed you should have a folder with the name of the set that is empty. Delete that extra folder.

Now you can drag the correct folder (the one with the two OVL files) from your desktop back into Style\Themed. That should make the path correct for the game to access the objects and the set should now work.

How does an extra layer get formed by mistake? Well, there's several ways but one way to make sure it doesn't occur is to always unzip new CS set's to your desktop FIRST, and then find the correct folder (with the two OVL files) and drag it to your Style\Themed folder yourself. If the CS set comes with an .exe file, I always change the destination to have it go to my desktop as well.

Hey, forgot about some key words like PLEASE and Thank you or are they not part of your vocabulary? Trust me, you're going to need then once you become an adult. Or how about this: Read the tutorials that are on top of this forum - there's one that helps specifically with installing custom scenery instead of tugging at everyone's shirt tails every step of the way.

You're welcome.

All of JCat's stuff (including Spaceworx) is with the walls/roofs scenery section. Look for it where you find the other wall sets like the Castle, Space, office walls etc..

If you don't see it, try to reinstall it again.

Don't yell, don't double post. That's the easiest way to get people to ignore you.

Look at what Marn posted above...post #6.

Double posting will get you nowhere. Drag the unzipped folder into Style/Themed. It's not that tough.

Coaster fanatic
06-19-2007, 11:32 AM
what unziped folder, i can only find a regular folder and a zipped one.

biogal
06-19-2007, 11:37 AM
Did you double-click on the zipped folder to extract?

Coaster fanatic
06-19-2007, 11:41 AM
ok i extracted them, are they in the game now?

biogal

Did you put them in the correct folder? Again, see Marn's post #6.

michielh3

ok i extracted them, are they in the game now?

1. chek the foldet , they should be unzipped in the folder that marnetmar mentioned
C:\Program Files\Atari\RollerCoaster Tycoon 3\Style\Themed

if they are there , the start up the game , and then go to walls/roofs scenery and then to the space theme , they should be there.

( just to make it sure , you should be saying thanks to everyone here who helped you , something like "thanks all of you , it works now" ... )

and btw , if skipper even takes a glimp of this thread , be sure to hide and get a shelter for the next 5 - 10 years :p

i extracted the files but it still says zipped

biogal
06-19-2007, 12:01 PM
When you open the zipped folder, a window should pop up showing the unzipped folder. Right-click on that folder and choose cut. Then, open the themed folder (pathway shown above), right click, and choose paste. I am assuming that it is not self-extracted into the themed folder. Check the themed folder first to see whether or not the extracted folder is in there.

Im a firm beleiver that not everybody is cut out to use computers, let alone pay attention to whats being told to them when they ask. :noob:

Its quite possible that you installed the file wrong, if any of the internal files were damaged, moved, or deleted then the set will not work correctly.

It doesnt matter what operating system your computer has, biogal is refering to your computers build specifications. If your card has a hard time with the game alone, its possible your overloading the processor when you try to load the custom scenery, but its more likely a mis-install. Try going into the game settings, and turn shadeing off. if that doesnt work. then you have a failed install.

Edit-

Oh and in these forums we have etiquette, do not double post, be kind, USE CLEAR ENGLISH NOT SLANG, pay attention, obey all the rules posted by the moderators, and most of all be grateful for the help/criticism/comments that you are given. If you continue to fail to uphold these requirements (and i say this on behalf of the forums) your welcome in the forums will soon be gone.

Try downloading it again and install it, my vista and CS doesn't work together so i got 3 ambience and 5 installed spaceworks in the game menu..

First if you got XP, just remove it and download a new one from a different mirror.

If you got vistabasic then you need to be an administrator and update your directx drivers.

If you got vistahome premium then remove it and download a new one from a different mirror. (like XP)
