View Full Version : Monumental Glen /|\ (and the big wheels keep on turnin'!)

(Incase you were wondering, I plan on sticking with this one.;))

Welcome to Monumental Glen!
It's my latest work collaborated to make a park, currently consisting of three rides and other small areas. Hopefully it can mesh forming a large decent park without to much lag.

The three rides are:
-Colossus; a gigantic wooden rollercoaster based solely on terraforming.
-Ackata Riverglade; a hude heavily themed white water rapids based on the mines of Ackata (fictional).
-Coyote's Run; A medium B&M Vertical drop coaster making home in a large marsh.

There's isn't much story as it's mainly based on what I've built recently, I started with a blank lot and built three different rides in every corner, eventually the rides made themselves homes and now I'm going to finish this off by connecting them as a large functional park.

Here are some pictures of the rides:

Here is Coyote's Run, as you can see it has a diagonal vertical drop into some marsh and rock formations.

http://aycu35.webshots.com/image/25674/2006398223127870360_rs.jpg

The rides largest elements can be seen in the distance whilst standing in the queue, it's great for building up excitement:

http://aycu25.webshots.com/image/23344/2006337146900935124_rs.jpg

A more higher up shot shows the general layout of this side of Coyote's Run:

http://aycu03.webshots.com/image/23722/2006329396115150560_rs.jpg

A final shot of Coyote's Run with it's magnificient butterfly loop which will soon be adjacent to a path for guests to watch as the coaster zips through:

http://aycu38.webshots.com/image/24077/2006330894715278497_rs.jpg

Ackata Riverglade is based on Ackata mines (fictional) in which there are dangerous hot springs and unsterdy rock formations conformed around a fast flowing river with many obstacles to watch out for:

http://aycu34.webshots.com/image/23753/2006345533496074827_rs.jpg

Some bridges make their home above the ride as peeps watch the musty wood slowly crumble:

http://aycu17.webshots.com/image/22856/2006358749368613972_rs.jpg

Rock formations line most of this ride, to make home for that bats that need caves as a natural habitat;):

http://aycu14.webshots.com/image/26253/2006389612900634633_rs.jpg

And finally, Colossus. Hopefully some of the pictures can explain the name, you'll find it to be one of the largest and most exciting wooden rollercoasters ever to be built in such a small park:

http://aycu30.webshots.com/image/23629/2006302764832309962_rs.jpg

Colossus ventures far from the main park area, it's longest run lines a small lake as it roars and makes the water tremble:

http://aycu37.webshots.com/image/23876/2006355095766575474_rs.jpg

On the other side of it's longest run it lines a giant mountain formation, something which guests love to view from the top of it's might yet rickety chain lift:

http://aycu24.webshots.com/image/23143/2006398867710509217_rs.jpg

Well hopefully this first update will get everyone hyped up for the following ones. Don't mind my building process though, I can't seem to commit to one thing so the updates will be more or less speratic based on which part of the park is worth viewing.

Hopefully you liked it!

It took me about two hours to just do that hill and the turnaround that you see, the rest isn't supported.

Merely a few pictures during the night time with the all new lighting!

Near the river, the coaster swoops buy interacting with scenery. This ride is somewhat easy to spot with it's tall elements and bright colours/lighting.

Nothing special?! Geezus this park is brilliant Jess... I'm in love/envy with your track layout - it's so unique and yet compact and the supports just boost the theme up a few more notches...its fantastic.

You want criticism? too bad! (cause i dont have any...) But I'll tell you what, when you start doing things that are wrong, I'll be the first in line, haha.

Again, your park is quite breathtaking... I didn't know you had this in you!

Sorry, but you only get criticism if you build something that warrants it..;)

You're on a roll, just keep on rolling!

Maybe parts of the rapids ride seem too dark, some subtle light here and there would help the guests see more at night.
There's some criticism, but even that was a stretch...you've got gold here, just keep doing what you're doing!..:up:

I agree with N7, you won't get any criticism until you post something with flaws. :p

I'd just see how the first drop on Coyote's Run looks fully lit up, it seems dark in the earlier pictures, may improve it, may ruin it.

Thanks! The supports are Daz Matze's Swizz It, a very underused set with an amazing variety of uses. I recommend getting it. Although the wooden supports are insanely time consuming, I've spent a good 4 hours total and only got one hill and a turn-a-round done.

Thanks. The layout wasn't all to planned out, although I am obtaining a few crucial steps to acheive a nice layout and themeing. Something I never really used to have. I didn't know I had this in me either, hard to beleive how far I've come after looking at my first creations the other night.

I've added some lights to make it stand out more, nothing far to bright. I can't really say as I'm 100% happy with it, although I've never been good at lighting parks so I can't say as I blame myself.

Well, the video is done completely, uploading it is all that's left, that is for tomorrow since I can't be with you on friday.

Although as promised here is a photo update.
Port Mansion is stretched along the outskirts of the lake next to Coyote's Run, and is home for this sections most unique attractions.

"The new addition has brought several more peeps to the park within a matter of days." says the park owner.

http://aycu35.webshots.com/image/24194/2005826745272492365_rs.jpg

The fine decorations and wonderful service make this little port a wonderful place for peeps to relax. For instance we have the Port Mansion Diner which is not only home to some splendid homemade recipes, but is also a place where peeps can enter the docks and relax while enjoying their meal.

http://aycu26.webshots.com/image/24625/2005803245555997415_rs.jpg

The several different places for seating will eventually be consumed at all times once the park nears completion. The (ugly) yellow building, Bootlegger Bar, awaits its final renovations before opening full time. It will be home to America's finest ale.

It's directly across the main path, so it isn't directly next to it, but more so adjacent to it.

The park owner finally finishes construction of Hucklebuck's Steak Factory (silly name, I know) and has become one of the most popular restaurants already. Just before opening I'm escorted by a security guard (who will accompany me from now on, as I almost got hit by a falling duck last time) to take pictures of the new joint.

Other then the fact that it has an upstairs lounge dining section, it also has outdoor seating, and an add-on Ice Cream shop for dessert after your meal.

Frank the security guard heads into the restaurant while I take my pic at this tricky angle. (mid-air)

As he enters the restaurant from the back entrance, he heads right upstairs so he can relax in the wonderful new seating area.

http://aycu15.webshots.com/image/27054/2000475038984394325_rs.jpg

"The pier is coming along terrifically, with this brand new Port Mansion we'll be raking in twice the cash by next season." says the park owner.

With the new building designers, we've been seeing major improvements throughout the park, to say the least.

More coming soon...

Superb job Jess! I'm in love with this park. It's exciting, fun, and highly realistic. Not to mention beautifully themed up the wazoo. Those wooden supports must have taken you AGES! Eeeek. At least now we know you have dedication. ;]

Also, good job on the video. What a fun ride! I loved that building on stilts. It added great atmosphere (something your park is full of).

I thought it was pretty realistic myself, even the architecture if you ask me. Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.

You're right about the woodie supports, I've only been putting off working on them because of how much time they take, it will take much longer to complete this ride then I firstly excpected, might end up being the last thing I finish.

Oh yeah, you mentioned you have no lag? Wow. How many gigs of Ram do you have? 2? 3?

Thanks, and no lag yet, even at night. I can zip around the park as if it were in a video (which never have lag) I do not know how much RAM I have as it was given to me, but it's something crazy like 10 or 20 gigs. (if that's possible, but it is something crazy.) Also, I've been asked what I have my graphics set to when I do so, I have them set at maximum capacity, with everything that's possible.

Nice video, Jessica. I really really like the coaster. Very creative layout, and I love the fast-paced ending. The video was really cool, too. I really like how you used the flying camera, and I think the music fit the coaster perfectly. Nice job, looking forward to see more!

Thanks. It was so hard finding a good music to go with.

Since I can't do anything tomorrow, I've prepared a little update with thanks going out to Crowheart who suggested I add lights, thanks very much.

Well, here are some pics of the Port Mansion docks, at night!

http://aycu36.webshots.com/image/24355/2001915721757374174_rs.jpg

The lights are bright and full of life while this park lights up against the beautiful, calm, relaxing water.

Although we've also noticed a new stranger in the park watching our every move. I think he works for some big time theme park company, and is trying to shut us down.

Now that the first section of Port Mansion is done, it's time to move onto something bigger and better, but what?

http://aycu21.webshots.com/image/25220/2001900800336001522_rs.jpg

A clue is a quote from the park owner himself.

"The guests of Monumental Acres are free to stay in the park 24/7. During nighttime guests tend to go towards where they can sit, relax, and maybe have a few drinks. Now like me and any other human being, we all need sleep come a certain time of day or night..."

What could this mean?

More coming soon...

I don't know what to say. This park has so much potential and is slowly getting to its potential.

Coyotes Run is a really good roller coaster. The theming is great. Every little detail from the bushes is perfect. I mean, those fountains you go through was really cool. The only part I didn't like was that you want over the first drop faster than I would have liked, but other than that, it great!

Well, no sign of that wierd inspector person lately, probably to busy drinking espresso with his big shot buddies exchanging the latest stock market changes and political events. Silly fools they are...

However the park sees some new sights....

Crystal Lake Bumper Boats brings some new peeps over to the port mansion area. With the upcoming completion of Port Mansion, Crystal Lake (The name of this phase) slowly comes together. Besides the few attractions that require final touch-ups, we're finding this phase is coming to around the 35% mark.

Here is the site of the bumper boats from the back near the docking.

Note: This is not an "official" update, just what I have to show for after my sick leave from the computer.

Note 2: Everything you see here, is relatively unfinished, when I return with a "Phase 2 Official Update" you will be seeing the finished product.

Note 3: This is a different phase (Phase 2) so it's being built on a different park map as of now.

Note 4: It's a mainstream theme, with a venician touch to it (you'll see that part later)

Note 5: It's starting to look way to repetitive IMO, so I'll probably be changing the colour scheme completely.

Okay, instead of keeping you waiting, here are the only photo's as of yet.

http://aycu13.webshots.com/image/28212/2004196484775075384_rs.jpg

This is the main entrance to this gigantic complex, yet very fancy restaurant. To the right of the main entrance you can see some blue-ish clapboard walls, that is the Coffee Shop.

http://aycu09.webshots.com/image/29688/2004148335394154814_rs.jpg

Just inside the main entrance, you can see some of the large seating areas in the background, and the small Coffee Shop just to the front-right.

http://aycu30.webshots.com/image/27349/2004105484925126848_rs.jpg

Here is the oh-so-large dining area! There are four different sections of tables, plus one section for boothes. There is also upstairs balcany seating and an upstairs coffee shop (already mentioned). The style of restaurant is self serve buffet, all you can eat. There is also a small deli where you can request more fussy meals that you simply can't leave out.

For this restaurant, I took a "as realistic as possible" approach. The black scenery above the ceiling line is actually very common in restaurants. It gives the entire restaurant a more open feel, and the black colour brighten's everything up aswell as keeps focus on the scenery around the base of the restaurant. The restaurant is very large, and very complex. It is taking a vast amount of time to build, and I've built only half as of yet. I've tryed my hardest to add as much detail as possible, so I only hope this main attraction to Phase 2 does not cause vast amounts of lag in the near future.

Well,

I'll have to change them, as originally it was a rather neat design in the center of that area. However the buffet bar has caused it to look rather demented.

Update! (Unfortunately another Phase 2 update, only official this time!)

Well, here's your phase 2 official update, mainly just some exterior photo's of the restaurant's surrounding facade.

http://aycu28.webshots.com/image/29507/2005514109454987728_rs.jpg

The restaurant doesn't properly show this, however most of the walkways will be covered by towering buildings supported above the peeps' heads. You will start to see this effect MUCH MUCH more in the future of Phase 2.

http://aycu19.webshots.com/image/28018/2005550738748682377_rs.jpg

The walkways will be more narrow then the large central path going through the entire park as a sort of "highway" route for access through the entire park. I've also created a quant little planter that fits absolutely perfectly in these narrow pathes, without consuming to much space.

http://aycu15.webshots.com/image/30014/2005547062528474187_rs.jpg

Well friends, it's been a while... (a long, long while), especially since I've updated this park. I finally found some time to settle down into a chair and open this bad boy back up, I don't really remember why I stopped, but hopefully I can gather some inspiration from the latest parks and sets and hopefully get a good re-start on this old park!

Once I start to play the game a little more steady, I'll definately have more to show you, however, for now, this is all I have, sorry.:p

Yes! Jess, and this park, you're back! This has been by far my favorite park on the forum, it really has. This park has inspired me a LOT with RCT3, so I'm just so excited you're back to working on it! This park has a lot of potential, and can turn into something truly amazing if you ever complete it.

As for Colossus, it looks amazing. I still don't get how you have the patience to make all those custom supports! Must have taken awhile, but in the long run, it was worth it; it looks so much better than the default ones. Also, I love the slogans for the coasters, I really do. You have a talent Jess, and a very big inspiration! So happy you're working back on this park. Cannot wait to see an update, and anything else that is new!

YES!!! This monumental park has returned (haha, catch the pun there?).

wow, cant believe I havent posted in here before. Your architecture is stunning (although a bit jumbled and messy at times IMO - but still great) inside and out. Just all round impressive!

Thank-you, I'm glad to see I still have funs of me and my stuff! It's great to hear from you again Tulie, and yes, patience did play a big part in how this entire ride turned out.

I want to declare my love for you and your park, but I thought double posting was frowned upon..?
This confused me? Do you think that I am Tulie? lol.

Thank you for your compliment, and yes, it can be messy and jumbled, and now that the park is finally spreading (I just haven't showed you guys yet) I'm trying to make it more organized and have a better flow to it.

Anyways, I just wanted to give you guys a look at what's going on!
