Stupid work PC, the pic is blocked. I'll have to wait until I get home.

I actually began messing around with my EPCOT recreation again, last night. There's a lot of CS coming that will help me with where I've been stuck the last few months.

That may be true, the the true intension of EPCOT Center was to display future technologies and explore the different "futuristic" topics such as energy (Universe of Energy), motion (World of Motion), communication (Spaceship Earth), earth (The Land), ocean (The Living Seas), human health (Wonders of Life), and future living (Horizons). Imagination fits in there somewhere, too. Now World of Motion has turned into Test Track, Horizons was demolished and turned into Mission: SPACE, The Living Seas was renovated into The Seas with Nemo and Friends, World of Motion was renovated into Ellen's Energy Adventure, and Wonders of Life is currently being gutted to be turned into convention center space.

The true intention was to explore the 21st century (what is right now). And now that we are there, people are no longer into the slow dark ride-type rides. They want thrills, and that's exactly what Disney gave them. I just think that they kind of lost the whole point of what Future World was at Epcot: the future!

Okay, enough of my rambling. I do understand how you said that it was boring, though. Also, can we expect a Living Seas set as well?

Albert Caine
08-28-2007, 07:51 PM
I dont mean to bother you but Could you make a Mission Space Pavillion please?
It is true that Epcot has lost it's original intention and pushing it further away from what Walt Disney wanted.

OK, now that I'm home, I just pooped my pants! These are excellent and just what's been slowing me down. I've been fighting with the land glass structure for months, and totally unsure on how to dow WoM, Horizons and UofE. I'd love to be a beta tester (hint, hint). :haha:

Thanks for taking my request! That Horizons building ROCKS! The Living Seas looks good as well, except that the front curve/wave thing has to slant down. Can you do that in SketchUp or can it only stay level.

Anyway, I've been waiting on a set like this for ages! Keep up the good work!

EDIT: I'm sorry, but I've got one last thing to request, and that will be it (I know how much hard work that you're putting into this set). Could you make some pavilion signs such as Horizons and UOE?

Couple of questions. 1) Are the glass pieces one big piece, or broken into smaller pieces? 2) What's the difference between the Imagination pyramids? They'e never changed them as far as I know. 3) Like the glass pieces, I'm assuming these are all small sections of the buildings that can be placed. We all know RCT3's hatred for huge scenery pieces.

Westcot
08-30-2007, 03:19 PM
Excellent! So you'll be releasing two sets then?

Happy "B-day" by the way!

EDIT: What about the windows and doors on Horizons?

Absolutely!

We need to see some imported pics. That will get us REALLY excited. It's one thing to build these structures in Sketchup, but to put them in RCT3 is another journey.

I have built all of these structures and imported into Google Earth :) But I couldn't get them down to any decent poly count for RCT3.
I'm wondering (and hoping) if you can.

I am so overjoyed to see another join in making Epcot CSOs. For a while, I thought myself the only person interested in doing it.

1- They are 1 piece
2- The origonal pyramids were gray! they have changed over the years! when captain EO and the origonal figment ride with the dream finder was around was the time period when the pramids where gray
3- Yes. Most of the glass pieces are scenery add ons so u can make your pavillions look more real

I cant make that pecause of polys and i cant over lay faces without a funny looking texture.......i think shyguy has a set with the same exact doors and windows! rember im new to sketch up so yeah!

Any Suggestions for set two??? if u noteced i am currently starting to work on a SPLASH MOUNTAIN CS set!

I just wanted to point out (because I just noticed it) that the front view shape of Horizons is not right. The slanted roof should really end at the large beams closest to the outside.

I'm not mad or anything, just helping you make it correct. :D

http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p227/WFTSfan/horizons.jpg

You don't have to fix it, after all, it's your CS set. Just trying to help.

Also, you wanted some suggestions for the next set, right? How about some CommuniCore roof pieces or the Spaceship Earth post show building?

Awesome job on improving Horizons! :D

Yeah, Horizons opened October 1983 and closed 1999 (December or January, I think) because of a large sink hole that opened under it. It had also lost its sponsor years ahead and was very outdated (it talked about heading into the 21st century which was then about to occur anyway).

I really wish that I could have seen the ride in person, and if I did, I'd be too little to remember it. It's really a shame that it's gone though, because I've heard that it was one of EPCOT Center's best rides.

mcjaco
08-31-2007, 01:29 PM
^ The sink hole story is just a rumor. They were already in the planning stages of a new ride for the area. Test Track's delay just made the pavilion stick around a little longer.

I have a POV of Horizons on youtube. Just lookup mcjaco23. It was the best ride IMHO.

I really am hoping that you make these into smaller pieces, as I fear the large objects will make RCT3 unplayable. That is, if you can even place them without it crashing.

Well, it may be true that they kept it open while Test Track was under construction, but after they demolished the building there are pictures of a large sinkhole which they had metal walls and supports in and were filling it. Disney would not have demolished such an expensive building if it wasn't for this. They could have gutted it to put Mission: SPACE into (Mission: SPACE is WAY smaller than the Horizons building), but (again) it was the sinkhole. The building was just too heavy for it.

The sinkhole is a true fact disney told the public in 2000 (i think) So i know for sure that factor is proven true!

And has anyone made a hoizons rec? if so can i see a link

i guess a Horizons Rec would be hard because the ride was reallly really really long and it would require a ton of Custoom Scenery lmao

mcjaco

I had started one, but because I couldn't make the actual structure, I gave up for the time being. You could essentially make a "generic" looking Horizons with some of the custom and default scenery.
