My understanding is that developers bought Astroland and the land that is leased to Deno's Wonder Wheel Park. I had heard that they intend to develop it for entertainment use, with keeping the Astroland Cyclone.
The Wonder Wheel is expected to remain due to its being on the National Register of Historic Places.
Ok. but then ill never get why people were protesting in the streets nyc Like This (http://youtube.com/watch?v=vttyR7tFfEc).

^^ Because they want to seem 'involved' and 'aware' so they can feel cool at night.
Ok now i get what your saying from reading some artical on the internet. I still think coney island (http://saveastroland.com/) should stay the same as it is now.
Edit : So they can feel cool at night?

Yeah, at bars and such. Or just to help them sleep, feeling that they're not entirely useless in the world.

Not for nothing, but I'm glad Astroland is gone, it was a dump in the first place. At least now they're gonna build a new park there mirroring the Coney Island of the 1920's plus keeping the Wonder Wheel and Cyclone. There's also rumors that the Parachute Tower might get new cables and chairs to be operational again which I believe might happen (for the love of God, FINALLY!).

Supposedly there has been an agreement to extend the leases for Astroland along with several other area attractions for another year... so count on at least one more season.

The Cyclone isn't going anywhere, It and the Wonder Wheel are listed on The National Registry Of Historic Sites, and are owned by the state.
I think It would be cool if they got a Classic looping coaster in there though, like Mindbender.

It's true that Cyclone and Wonder Wheel are planned to remain, but don't feel too comfortable with the historic designation. Detroit's Tiger Stadium is on the National Register of Historic Places, and it is currently being stripped in order to be torn down soon. Sufficient quantities of money seem to trump historic significance.

I think ACE would do their best to save the coaster, along with the rest of NYC. I mean, come on, it's practically an American icon. How could they tear it down?

It should be noted here that really nothing of historical significance is ever saved in Detroit as the city is a complete and utter hole. Of course money is king there so now the mayor can pay his legal fees for his stupid actions.
