View Full Version : How many times have you visited a Disney destination?

Well, the thread title pretty much speaks for itself. Please vote on the poll regarding how many times you have visited any kind of Disney destination (that includes parks, cruises, and Adventures by Disney).
Why am I asking? Personal interest, and I'm curious to garner some statistics...
After voting on the poll, please post where you want, how long, what the highlight of your trip was, and if you would do the same vacation again.
Thanks!

I'd say that I've been to Disney World more than 25-30 times at least. Though, I've never been to Disneyland California, Disneyland Paris, Tokyo Disneyland or Hong Kong Disneyland. Also never been on any of the cruises.

Seven times to DLRP. (Over a time span of 10 years!) All visits for 5 days or a week. So in total about 6 weeks in DLRP.
Thrice to WDW (Over a time span of 5 years!) All visits for 2 weeks. So a total of 6 weeks in WDW.
:)
Going to DLR next year! Or did I mention that before? (YYYAAAYYY!!!!) 8 Days.

I guess...you don't get it.
I've been to WDW 3 times: in 1998, 1999, and 2004.
What some people don't get about the Disney parks is that they're different from any old theme park. The atmosphere at the parks are beyond incredible, so is the detail put into the attractions. Yes, they may not be as thrilling as a Six Flags ride, but Disney has something most other theme parks don't have...soul.
Which is why I said you don't get it. You're not able to absorb everything around you at a Disney park, you are unable.

You're right about that. Disney parks have so many little details, you can't possibly notice everything. Disney is all about the atmosphere and "magic", not about the thrills.

Who cares?
Quite frankly, I wouldn't go if someone paid my way.. ticket, plane, hotel, food..
I'd rather spend my day doing something EXCITING rather then.. "Oo! Look.. they have a bird on the mountain thats 400ft away.. and I can see with a telescope! OMG! SO WORTH IT!"

I'd rather go on a ride that has theming or some intelligence input than a coaster that is like 'o ride me I'm the tallest/faster/whatever in the world for 4 months before another coaster breaks the record again'. I just don't understand the appeal of a coaster that is just boringly unthemed. They just seem a bit bland and dumb to me. To me, Disney is like an Art form, but stuff like Six Flags is like a slash-em-up thriller featuring Paris Hilton.

Hey, if you like that.. go ahead.
People who watch slash-em-ups get thrills as well. Maybe even if they feature Paris Hilton. Thus the analogy stands :). Anyway, every time you ride the ride, the adrenaline rush is less and less. Great immersive detail and storytelling lasts a long time. Each ride I go on in Disney allows me to discover more details, a new level of experience. Yes, even I like the adrenaline rush, but it's less and less every ride to me, whereas a Haunted Mansion or POTC has detail and interest mentally, which last much longer than a hormone rush.

Except when you know the whole story.
Just as losing an adrenaline rush, once you know whats going on.. it can get quite boring.
So.. really.. thrill rides and themed storied rides are the same.

You know SnooSnoo, I enjoy reading your posts every now and then, but this wouldn't be the first time that I (and others) have been pretty darn irritated by your arrogance and your mission to make yourself look good.
I know you get bent out of shape when someone "disses" or has something negative to say about Cedar Point or any other park or roller coaster you enjoy, so why is it OK for you to return the favor to others who enjoy a park that you do not?
In fact, let me edit your quote:
I'm sure you love Cedar Craptacular Point.. but just because someone else doesn't, doesn't mean they don't 'get' it.
See, when you put a crown on your head and pull out your bejeweled scepter like you have done so many times before, people get upset. Though it might make you feel good, it only makes you look like an idiot. As much as you'd like to think that you're the authority on all things amusement, you're not, and no one is impressed by how many times you've ridden Coaster X, nor is anyone impressed by how many times you've visited Amusement Park Z. When you encessantly brag about these kind of things, people are disgusted. They might put on a fake act for you and tell you "OMG U R GOD U R SO KEWL", but behind their masquerade, they don't give an At's Rass. You are NOT the authority, and just because a park does not have rides that blow your head off or malfunction every five minutes does not make them any less of an amusement park. Put on your spectacles, turn on the light, and broaden your horizons.
More to your post, I think it's YOU that needs to open your eyes a bit more. Start learning some respect, or you might just put yourself in even more of a hole than you are now, and yet you wonder why a mod gets after you for doing something YOU KNOW is making you look like a fool.

I have no problems with the fact that you dislike the company. Heck, I deal with these kinds of people everyday. You're very much entitled to your opinion, as am I.
Perhaps I wasn't being clear. Your 'opinions' are fine, but I do have an issue with the way you put them across - if you're not talking down to someone or making them feel inferior, then obviously you're not satisfied. THAT is what I disagree with, that, and your tendency to shower yourself in sequins for riding top thrill coasters and going to all these creme de la creme amusement parks.
I hope you realize that I'm not trying to make you look bad, nor do I have any ill-feelings towards you as a member. I dislike how you handle yourself sometimes, and after having no one speak up, I decided it was time to make some things known.
Yes, perhaps I did 'lower myself to your level', but the difference between you and myself is that I don't make it habit, nor did I resort to namecalling to put my point across.
As for respect, a lot of people do care. You might not think so, but you'll be on a lot better terms if you exercise some discretion when countering other's opinions with your own. It's fine that you have strong ones, but it would be finer if you didn't call others names or belittle them in every way you find suit.

Snoo Snoo, I don't want to start an argument, but Disney parks really are meant for families and kids. A lot of us that have posted on this thread grew up with Disney, so we still go there. It's a great place to go even if you aren't a kid or a parent. There's lots of memories you have growing up with Disney that thrill rides really can't give you much of.
Disney World and all of the other Disney parks are meant to have a nice atmosphere and be "magical". When I was a little kid, I always had a feeling of magic every time our car would drive through the "Welcome to Walt Disney World" entrance. It was just a completely different theme park experience that no other park can give you.
Even I right now in high school still enjoy going to Disney parks including Epcot and Disney-MGM. I understand where you're coming from, though. I really enjoy going to Disney World, but for thrills I go to Busch Gardens.
Epcot is really more of an adult park with some great thrills including Mission: SPACE and Test Track. Even Animal Kingdom has Expedition Everest which is pretty thrilling. Disney just tries to create a relaxing atmosphere by bumping up the architecture and landscaping, and sort of lowering or hiding the thrills.
Disney isn't all about fairies and pixie dust, it's about family memories.
EDIT: You know, I don't like where Disney's going either (especially with their over-advertised Disney Channel stuff) but I don't hate the company. I think now that they've got a new CEO, they're really trying to improve things that they've messed up on in the past. Every company makes mistakes.

I agree with Snoo Snoo. Disney is like the University of Michigan, they're both horribly overrated.
Oh boy! Fantastic theming but no thrills! WHOOOO!
Give me BGE anyday. They have both theming and thrills. Yeah Disney has great atmosphere, but their arrogance of "Pay half the new worth of Namibia for a 3-day visit" puts me off. Tie that in with the craptastical movies they've released in the last 10 years and I see a company that's lost it's vision.
And Westcot, I agree that every company makes mistakes, but Disney reapeats them.
Now I'm off to see that 'special picture' of our favorite HSM star.

WDW is more of a total resort experience, justifies going out of your way to get there more. Although Disneyland still justifies it, if you live far away from both (for instance) WDW is more appropriate as there's more to do! But they are both very different.

I hold an annual pass to WDW (and have for the better part of my lifetime) and have well surpassed the 100 visit mark. In fact, it would probably be more accurate to say that I'm reaching the 1,000 mark soon.
I don't think I could visit any other amusement park as often. I think it's the amount of detail in all the rides that allows countless return visits to be possible (and enjoyable). I always seem to notice something different in the ride that makes it so much more enjoyable.

Well thank you for voicing your opinion. I appreciate it. But really, what you just so vividly explained, which was cute btw, is the exact same thing I seem to do to other people.
So really, that brilliant performance you just put out, makes you no better then me.
Even if someone finds your little spiel to be the 'savior to all mankind because you told Snoo off'.. really, you just lowered yourself down to my level.
Round of applause everyone.
My eyes are open.. they WERE open when I went for 5 strait summers. Even when I was young, I found it incredibly boring.
As for respect.. its a forum.. who cares? I have respect.. really no one here besides Harpo and a few others. You.. and most of the people in this thread, don't fit the bill.
And the only reason I seem to be 'looking like a fool' is because i've got nothing but person after person defending Disney. While i'm the only person who actually likes hates it.
But.. I am Satan remember.. because I hate Disney and all.
SPITE ME LORD!

The flaming by the factions stops NOW, or the thread ends. Everyone has an opinion, good, bad, harch, mild. Whi;e I don't agree with Snoo, or some of the other comments, I am not going to attack them, and neither should snoo or anyone else.
I enjoy ANY park, for different reasons. WDW is a unique experience which is not all about thrills, when you are an ADULT, you understand that. The other parks, I go to are strictly about coasters, I rarely stay in them more than a few hours in the morning. With Dis, I can stay open to close because of the variety.

If anything's fake fun, it's amusement parks like Six Flags and such. Just a bunch of g-forces against your body going down a 300 foot drop.
I've got nothing against rollercoasters, because they're awesome, but not Disney awesome.

No lock yet, appears I was to early before, not late.
Surprise, I do agree with Nick in one aspect, Disney has Awesomeness, but like he said, not "THRILLING" awesomeness. Disney is an experience, more than a park.
THAT is why I can roam Disney for more hours than I can a "Thrill" ride park.
I go to ALL the others for ONE thing, Coasters.
Been to BGA As many times as Disney, and ALL I know there consists of a few words. Montu, Gwazi, Kumba, Scorpion, Python (R.I.P.)
Seems all that will keep you small children in line is a shiny new infractometer!

Like the one I gave biogal?:haha:
The reason I prefer a Disney destination over any other park is because of the sheer amount of imagination and detail considered in designing a ride. The thrills that are absent from a Disney ride rather than a coaster, are substituted with "Disney thrills." You can have a 30 mph coaster (Space Mountain) and make it feel like it's going 80 mph with a little darkness, disorienting lights, and wind currents. Only Disney has enough thought for that.

Hmmm.... I don't know exactly how many times I've visited WDW. I know it's over ten, but under twenty. It's also only within the past two years. Yes, I never visited any Disney park until late November 2005. And my parents had never been until this past May, and they're in their early 70s. I had the wonderful pleasure of taking my parents on a guided tour of MK and Epcot. Hopefully this December I can show them AK and MGM.
While I'm at it, my next visit to Disney will be on Oct. 1st, as part of Epcot's 25th anniversary.
As far as why I go to Disney... well, several reasons. I met my fiancee/soulmate there; I love the attention to detail; I love the fact it's a family friendly park; I love the beauty of the area and the whole resort feel; I love that WDW has rides that can't be found anywhere else in the world... they're unique to the resort. (Not all of them, of course... but Test Track, Everest, Great Movie Ride... just to name a few.)
Why do I go to other parks? Coasters, water rides, even theming and atmosphere. My favorite park is Busch Gardens Europe, even over Disney. SFoG is my home park, and I'll always have fond memories of it. Dollywood has the best staff I've ever met at any park, and a great collection of rides, well themed.

I might be going to WDW in November.
My wife and I arranged for a cruise for my parents' 50th wedding anniversary. The cruise leaves from Miami. My wife and I are thinking we might go down a few days early, play at Disney, then have my folks pick us up in Orlando as they drive to Miami from South Carolina.
The Disney part of it is still a bit up in the air, however. (Expedition Everest was not yet open on my last visit, so I'm eager to try it out! We just have to see if we can manage the financial end and getting the time off work.)

If it was strictly up to me, it would be no contest -- I'd be taking a few days to play! But, I've got to convince the wife, too, so that makes it a bit tougher. (On top of that, our finances are a bit tight at the moment, and Disney isn't exactly cheap. However, it looks like the Tigers are going to blow their shot at the post season, so we should be seeing a refund on our post season ticket package -- that'll help our funding!)

After we got smart and saved some green with the passes, millions. All of my relatives have them. The cool thing is that there are some thrills in the parks as well.
