I am going to start a threat abiut the harry potter renovation of the lost continent. There will be 3 questions going along with this, you dont have to answer them.

1) How will Dueling Dragons be affected?
2) What will be in hogwarts castle?
3) What new rides will there be?

Discuss!

Um... it's The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, not The Wonderful World of Harry Potter.

Well supposedly,

1) Duelling Dragons will be rethemed to the Hogwarts dungeons and the Triwizard Tournament.

2) No idea! Probably a restuarant (buffet?) in a Great Hall? Just a guess...

3) Supposedy, Flying Unicorn's station will be rethemed to Hagrid's Hut, and it'll become a Hippogriff ride. There'll be a Hogsmeade, with a loads of shops, cafés, and there's also the Hogwarts Express in the station!

BTW, it's not all of Lost Coninent that's being rethemed, just the 'Medieval' Area. These images from Screamscape show it well,

But I can't wait to see it! :D

2. Hogwarts is going to have, rumor has it, a large interactive game inside it, where you can buy and use a wand to cast "spells" and interact with the environment. It will be licensed on the technology from Magiquest (http://www.magiquest.com) which is in place in various spots around North America, mostly Great Wolf Lodges and Myrtle Beach.

3. Sinbad is being closed to make a new Robocoaster based on the flying car from the 2nd movie.

So my peers weren't kidding when they said they would be constructing a Harry Potter theme park. Although, I must say, it's a worthy franchise...

Is it possible to reveal any of your sources? You always seem to have the inside/exclusive look for Amusement Park news.

I'm not a fan of Harry Potter but I am very fond of their concept work, when does construction start?

It's possible, but difficult. One: I stay in contact with Lance over at Screamscape on a lot of things... mainly concerning parks in the SE United States. So, in a lot of ways, Screamscape is my primary source of info.

Two: You'd be surprised by what employees know about what's coming to their parks... however, you can't just accept everything you hear. I ask a LOT of people at the parks, from ride ops on up, as to what's coming soon. From there, I compile what I've heard, and then make some educated guesses. As for what I look for when I'm asking around... start with management, if you can. A lot of times they'll be willing to talk about what's coming. The techs at a park are also a good source of info... after all, they need to know what's coming because it will directly influence their jobs. They will likely be trained on new hardware before anyone else in the park... after all, they have to fix it when it breaks. While you're at it... make sure to look for more mature employees. They are more likely to tell you the truth without embellishment.

Three: As for personal sources... I can't reveal any names, you understand. A lot of people could get in trouble with their jobs. But... hmmm....

Dollywood: Several ride ops, a few techs, some of the managers, and I've even spoken with their PR a time or two. The engineers of the train are a particularly good source.
SFoG: Everyone from ride ops to two GMs of the park.
WDW: Generally, I ask the employees who are working at a particular attraction about any updates, rehabs, etc. New attractions are a bit harder to peg down, but if you pay attention to various websites and what's being bantered about, you can generally get a good idea of what's coming. I also have been fortunate enough to have several reliable friends who work for Disney in various positions. I've even spent some time talking to a few Imagineers.
BG and Seaworld: Again, ride ops, techs, and managers. There's a couple in particular who have helped me out a lot.
IOA: Believe it or not, the Talking Fountain generally knows what's going on, but he can't just outright say it. He'll tell you what he can, coached in appropriate words.

I think that just about covers it. For those of you who say that Screamscape doesn't know what they're talking about... well, by my count, Lance is right about 85% of the time, and when he's wrong, he corrects it quickly. He pulls from dozens of sources, and then only talks about what's most likely.

How can they fit in all that in just one area of the park?

Squid2

Fairly easily. Lost Continent was one of the largest "islands" to begin with, so there's lots of room. Flying Unicorn and Duelling Dragons gets rethemed, the streets outside them become Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade, Sinbad, plus the backstage area behind it, gets turned into the new Robocoaster, and the empty area behind Flying Unicorn becomes Hogwarts Castle. Both Mythos and Poseidon are untouched, becoming a much smaller Lost Continent.

Really, it's all spelled out in the pics a couple of posts below. Do realise that not everything will be built 'full scale.' I don't think Hogwarts would fit on the land alloted for it if it was built at full scale. You probably won't be able to explore the whole thing... but you'll be able to hit the highlights, such as Dumbledore's office, the Main Hall, some of the classrooms... maybe even the Chamber of Secrets. (Not sure on that one... just speculation at this point.) Also remember that, as described in the books and shown in the movies, there's a lot of stuff under the castle that simply can't be built in Florida. Remember, the water table is just 2 feet underground. That pretty much eliminates the possibilities of underground construction, unless you are willing to spend a bunch of money or pull a Magic Kingdom.

Some small plots of land have already been cleared. As for actual construction, any day now.:)

A little more info, some of which has already been mentioned.

As far as DD's queue change, it's been mentioned that 90% of the skeleton's may be removed and that you'll get a close-up view of the Goblet. Just like in the movie it will be displayed on a pedestal and have the blue flames coming out. ...and while DD may get repainted and renamed to fit the Tri-Wizard Tournament theme, the layout itself should not be touched.

As for the the Flying Unicorn coaster, it will be rethemed to the Hippogryff. ...you'll get to queue up first in Hagrid's garden before going through his home and on to the coaster.

Oh and the new "E" ticket ride will be housed in the same building Sinbad was in. It's a new state-of-the-art attraction that will allow you to fly through the Forbidden Forest and then fly high above the grounds of Hogwarts, all while inside the Weasley's Ford Anglia of course.

Yes, I said Robocoaster. The new attraction inside Sinbad will be the world's first Robocoaster. What Alpie posted above is correct... the coaster will be themed to the Weasley's Anglia, you'll fly through the forest, etc. We know this because Universal has already signed the contracts for the coaster, (public knowledge, if you know where to look!) and has hired the teams for the effects.

^ It's probably gonna be mild on the spinning, if it even spins at all being that it's probably gonna be a family dark ride/coaster.

I'm kinda excited for this. I'm going to Orlando in 2009, and it's perfect timing being this is gonna be done plus the Space Mountain refurb in MK is gonna be done as well.

For those who didn't know, yes, SM is unofficially going down in Febuary and gonna be down until March 2009 to put in new cars with a soundtrack plus new effects and everything (no, the rumor about the track layout changing or the current track even leaving is a lie. This is gonna be done in one year for Christ's sake).

Squid2

Ghost, while I know SM is being rehabbed, I'm not sure about how long it'll be down. I believe a year is excessive for what's planned. However, from what I've heard, the track will be changed ever so slightly... they're adding in a new way to load in wheelchairs. In the loading section, part of the track will be converted into a transfer track, where they can pull the specially equipped trains off the course to allow wheelchairs all the time they need to transfer to and from the cars without slowing down normal operations... an absolutely brillant addition. And considering how many times I've had a friend in a wheelchair with me at a park... absolutely essential, in my opinion.

I also heard rumors somewhere that the old Dick Dale soundtrack originally used for Disneyland's version might come to WDW being it's been proven to perfectly sync with MK's version, but I don't know if that might happen being it's just a rumor.

Very true. All the info I posted above was known shortly after the announcement. As a matter of fact, I just copied the info from my other post back in June.;) Of course, some things may be tweaked here and there as they get the ball rolling, but you get the general idea of what it will be like.

Here's my original post, just scroll to the bottom.
