Have you ever been stuck on a rollercoaster because it broke down. If so, which one?

Yes, I have been stuck because of "minor" technical difficulties at the top of Journey to Atlantis's final drop. They told us to "be aware of any sudden movements."

When i ent to Alton Towers Air broke down like 3 times while we were in line then we got stuck for like 5 minuetes at the break section. It was fun though. Then When I went to Sixflags Fiesta Texas I got stuck on the frisbe ride because a restraint wouldn't lock.

A recent time I got stuck was at a fair when I was on this loopy thrill ride for like a minute. Then the operator finally pushed the opposite side of the ride to make it go. Hah it was funny.
On a roller coaster, I remember a couple years back I got stuck on Magnum at Cedar Point. We were almost at the top. It stopped, and we had to walk down the catwalk... and let me tell ya, that is SCARY.

On this ride called Half Pipe, it wasn't acctually the ride that got stuck, but the restraints, we were sitting there for maybe 20 minutes to 30 minutes. And finally, they decided to try to run the ride again, and the restraints opened right after. Gotta love Six Flags...
Then we got a flash pass for the rest of the day.:)

Yep three times, twice on my september 23rd vist to Six Flags Fiesta Texas both times were when they could'nt get Superman and the Roadrunner Express out of the station and there was like a 15 minute delay for both while I was on them.
The other time was like four years ago at the now closed down Six Flags Astroworld when we were stuck on the Texas Cyclone's final break run for 30 minutes.

Superman Ultimate Flight in the end brake run for a hour, it sucks laying down.
American eagle in the front row right before the drop.
Maverick in the First Brake Run area and in the second.
Disaster Transport Before the first "Drop".
And many different thrill rides.

I hope not on the lift hill! I would be screaming like a little girl.
You guys are cursed...I have only been stuck on a lift hill once. That was on the Wild One at SFA. We had to walk down but it wasn't that bad. But I have gotten stuck on many rides at the end brakes.
I got stuck on the lift of Dragon khan once, it was right at the top, about to go over and leave the lift when it stopped, stuck at the top.
none of the people on the ride liked it, so everyone started rocking the train off the lift, it was fun.
From what I know, it was a powercut at the park that stopped it, we had better luck than the people on the grand canyon rapids, everyone on that ride had their rafts stuck at the bottom of the lift in to the station.

I've had to be manually released from an AIR restraint many times. It's too good at keeping you in, so you sometimes need someone with an alan key to come and open your restraint.
That and Ripsaw, but then you just need someone to thump it and voila. :)

In 8th grade the band went to Disneyland for their Disney Music Days festival (I think that's the name). It had been raining all day. We had abotu 30 minutes left before we had to be at the bus and saw there was no line for Thunder Mountain (which we had already ridden 3 or 4 times that day). Any ways, on one of the lift hills (inside a cave), the train got stuck. We were told it could be an hour or so before they got to us. Needless to say it only took a few minutes and we made it to the bus on time...

I go to that comp too. It's called Music in the Parks. I have gotten stuck on the worst ride ever to get stuck on during that comp, It's a small world with my little cousin. Apparently someone lost a ring or something in the water, so they had to turn off the generators that move the current. The rest is too violent to tell but there are some new scorch marks on those blasted children.:pout:

A few weeks ago I got stuck on Montu at Busch Gardens Africa. The ride ops came up the lift and checked all the safety restraints. Then we listened to the annoying "Clear the lift, Clear the lift, Clear all lower track areas, Clear the lift" Then in spanish and so on for about 5 minutes. Then the ride started.

Stuck on boomerang: coast to coaster on top of lift for 1 hour. Then on Kingda Ka for about 5 minutes cause some guy refused to put his hands down. I was also on the TTD train that got stuck on top of the hill and the ride op had to come and push us. That was the scariest moment ever. Finally, I got stuck on top of millenium forces lift hill for 12 hours due to a major black out. I'm pretty unlucky.

Uhm, that's why there's a handy dandy catwalk next to the lift. I'm pretty sure there's an emergency restraint release next to each car on the train, in case something like this happened.

Except thats not a catwalk.. its an elevator. ;)
What he says has some truth to it.. as a TOTAL blackout could cause the train to be stopped and be unable to be reached by the park.. but again, Sandusky wasn't down that long.. and i'm pretty sure CP might have some sort of backup power system for that situation.

They do. As I recall, the blackout occurred around 3 in the afternoon, and I remember reading that CP had all the rides cycled out and emptied by 7:00 that night.
Of course I didn't find that out until 2 days later because Detroit Edison is so pathetic they couldn't restore anything for days. And to top it off SBC decided to have their own disaster and knocked out phone service in the western suburbs. But I digress, the wait was not 12 hours. Everyone was well off the rides before dark.

I was working on Raptor the day of the blackout in 2002. And your story smells like manure.
Power went out around 3-4 in the afternoon. Millennium was stopped on the top of the lift, however they were only stopped up there for around 30 minutes. The cable lift was hand-cranked to bring the train over the top, and that train completed the circuit and was emptied in the brake run outside the unload station.
The park was emptied out before dark... Ride Ops got sent home around 7:30-8:00, and the power returned about an hour later.
Next time you want to make up stories... do it around people that won't prove you wrong and make you look like an attention *****.

Nice one Ytivarg! I have been pretty lucky in this department. The only times I were stuck were not real bad.
1: Stuck on the lift of the San Diego Giant Dipper for 3-6 mins.
2: Stuck on Half Pipe at Elitch's Gardens. They ran the ride twice, not letting anyone who wanted off off. Needless to say, with a sideways facing seat, I had a major headache.
One intersting thing is that I have this bad luck streak with Goliath at SFMM. Nearly every time I suggest that we go on it, it gets stuck on either the lift or MCBR before we even get inline. Argh!
Cheers!

Yeah... well, the funny thing is... I don't buy your TTD story either. A ride op didn't come push the train, Jerry from Maintenance did.
The maintenance uniform and the Ride Op uniform are quite different.
I think you're just after some attention.
Vans_boy
10-09-2007, 01:06 PM

I don't work there either but ride ops wear bright red uniforms and maintenance workers wear obviously NOT red uniforms. More of a gray worksuit kind of thing.

Hey, ytivarg...
Totally off topic, but the mention of Jerry had me wondering. Do you know how long Jerry's worked at CP? Do you know if he used to be in Games Maintenance?
There was a great guy named Jerry who used to do the maintenance work for my Guessing Game location back in the late 1980's. During subsequent seasons, I would often see him wandering around the park, but I haven't seen him for a few years. Anyway, I can't help but wonder if it's the same Jerry.
As for getting stuck on rides, I guess I've generally been rather lucky. I once had to walk off of Cedar Point's Wildcat, and I was stuck on Geauga Lake's (when it was owned by Six Flags) Time Warp for about 30 minutes, but that's been about it.

Once, MF broke down while I was in the middle of the line. We waited it out and they fixed it in about 20 min. Worse yet, two years later we were next in line to get on MF and it broke down. Obviously we waited it out. Didn't take long to fix.

Well for one thing, now I know never to go to Cedar Point on a Saturday.. why? Many things! One of some of the rides were breaking down, causing some other lines to get longer.
I waited like an hour to get on Millenium. I'm sure it was longer, but I got their right when the park opened. We get up the lift, and then stop in the middle of it for like 5-10 minutes. Not that bad, actually. It was cool looking at lake Erie.
This isn't really on-topic, but when I was waiting for the Witches Wheel, I saw Dragster roll-back. It didn't even make it all the way... I think the last car was still verticle when it rolled back. Kinda surprised me, actually. Haven't seen a roll-back this year.
