It is a first generation freefall ride. According to Wikipedia, it was developed by Giovanola and marketed by Intamin AG... link (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freefall_(ride))

Currently, the Demon Drop at Cedar Point, Freefall at Six Flags Magic Mountain, and those at Toshimean and Central Park in Japan are the only remaining Intamin first generation Freefall rides in operation.
I <3 Demon Drop.. better then most S&S towers IMO.

=\ I haven't been on Demon Drop in awhile. My family is scared to go on Demon Drop, so it's kinda boring to go on it when you go alone.

Oh, ok.
I think my record is somewhere around 20 times in a row. (It's my "Keep Riding Until We Have To Leave" ride)

Well, make sure you enjoy Demon Drop while you can. It's been for sale for a few years. Cedar Fair has indicated they will continue to run it until it is sold, but it could be sold at any time.
Intamin no longer makes parts for the ride, making it difficult to maintain, hence the reason why they are disappearing.

Good riddance.... I have a personal grudge against Demon Drop.

^Just because you caught it in bed with your girlfriend doesn't mean you need to be mad at it.

I enjoy the Park Ejector, er, Lemon Drop, uh, Demon Drop. When it does finally give its last Cedar Point ride, I'll be sorry to see it go.
With the way it points towards the parking lot, I always thought it would be funny to ram a Demon Drop vehicle into an automobile, then roll it out into the parking lot each night, saying, "Whoops! One of them escaped!" Apparently, Cedar Point doesn't have quite the same warped sense of humor that I do! (They even had the opportunity -- after an accident on The Edge at Great America near Chicago, Cedar Point reworked Demon Drop to ensure that there were never two cars in the shaft at the same time. That reworking resulted in one car having to be removed from the ride, so they had a spare available to slam into an automobile!)

To be fair, Demon Drop wasn't using protection. I wouldn't stand for that either myself.

Also.. to be fair.. its the only ride in the park, minus the coasters of course, with great airtime. Power Tower is.. meh.. you'd have to get lucky with MaXair.. and Skyhawk is nothing but floater.. with loose restraints that is.

Understandable. I'm sure TTD had some spares, I dunno why DD couldn't have stopped by before.

No... working on that ride was a nightmare. The year I worked Wicked Twister, they were short staffed at Demon Drop/Midway Carousel... so I went over there for a Saturday/Sunday.
Had to run to the top of DD 6 times in two days. Hate. That. Ride.
Not to mention, that thing does a number on my spine on the pullout. Not fun for me whatsoever.

That type of ride is one of my favorite flat rides, but the car's design is horrible. Being a single rider, I always get stuck shoved in the side of the car. But it's still fun.

See.. i'm an athlete, so stairs are a daily workout. I dunno bout anyone else.. :)
I could understand though.. not many people are like me.. i'd probably enjoy that type of thing.. haha.. DD does do a number on your back sometimes though.. it all depends on my mood when i'm riding it.
Like yesterday.. I coulda rode it 20 times in a row.. not even felt it.

The stairs aren't the bad part... it's the one-foot wide ledge at the top with a railing on one side, and the shaft to the bottom on the other side.
Not good for someone with a fear of heights. ;) I'm cool riding it... just standing up there isn't the best feeling in the world... Especially on an windy October day.
