New Area Wizard?

I don't know if I'm being daft or if it's something to do with my settings but in the New Area Wizard, after you pick the size and press finish.. the area is black and there's no green like the tutorial says.

I've searched around and couldn't find anything? Hopefully someone can help. :noob:

int he upper left of the screen you will see the toolbars. One option says grid and right next to that is one called occulsion grid. Those toggle those lines on and off.

Yea its not so much a problem with the lines, its that an area doesnt even show up.. its just black nothing. No grass, no area.. just black
