I don't know if this is possible, but does anyone want to help make dinosaur animatronics? I don't know if you can, but if you can, I would love the help. I want to use them in my new ride, Jurassic Park, in which the ride travels through the events of the movie, such as this:

Here are some pictures as reference of some dinosaurs I would love to have. I know half of you will laugh in my face and say it's impossible, but at least a try is all I ask. Thanks. :D

I'm not sure it would work out. The animation would work, but from the stand point of how I see it, it would look really bad, as all we can really do are simple animations (doors closing etc.).

DasMatze has made a custom animatronics set they are the ones that are currently part of the game but they are all ride events and have collison detection turned off.
With the zip file there is a PDF that you must read and understand if you don't they don't work and you game will crash. I know this because I didn't read it before I installed it.

Are the ones that the game gives not good enough for your ride?

he needs more... but if you want 3d models, i believe it would take hours of work and tons of polys

I just HAAD to take RCT3 off of my mom's computer. I just HAAD to have a sudden urge to re-install AVP2. The Dilo animation should be relatively simple. just move some of the ends of the Frill back-and-forth in twitchy motions.
Besides the Original in-game Dinosaur models sucked, especially the Stegosaurus
sucked. the t-Rex (version 2) would even auto-tunnel so that you couldn't re-make JPRA. the Apatosaurus that was in The prehistoric pack was the Only Dino there that I actually used on a regular basis.
Also, a Velociraptor like in Jurassic Park, and not hidden by the rest of itself Would be a welcome addition to any Dinosaur-themed ride/ amusement park.

Dont you have wild? There are all sorts of animatronic dinosaurs in that. Mostly all the ones you have shown reference pictures of. They are i think as good as you will get from anyone at this time.

he does, but as told before, birou wants more dinosaur models

Well, animated scenery for RCT has barely been "cracked" after 3 years, so far the most that has been made are opening doors

That would be a great set. THeSkipper you obivoously havent been to Vodhin.Net lately. Someone has made many animated objects and they work fine. They havent been released yet though.

I theory, yes. But when is the last time you worked in xml format? Give someone the correct numerical information, and then we'll talk.

True, up to what's been released so far. It takes forever to get how you want it, which is probably why that's been about the only thing animated that's been released. I know I have a couple of pieces I hope to release in the near future, but time is the key and I don't have it.
If anyone wants to try it, go on right a head, but it will be pretty impossible for most. the actual animation program is very "sensitive" so to speak, and any one thing wrong, even the smallest, tinsiest error won't produce the ovl files.

I could probably do it except for the importing stuff. As I have yet to import anything in to RCT3.
But I already have an understanding of animating non-organic objects. And I will be learning how to rig very soon.
But I won't do it. As I have really lost interest in RCT3 after discovering 3DS Max.

Hey, I can't animate 3-dimensional objects, but then again, I am basically a noob at most things in the Videogame world. Only just recently have I started to get really into the Technical parts of videogame mapmaking (okay i use the mapster program for Duke Nukem 3D) yell at me if i don't know the technical apects of making the frill on a dilophosaurus model twitch. I could probably Do that on Zoo tycoon, But then again, zoo tycoon used Sprites, not 3-dimensional models.

Too bad it doesn't work like that. you can only animate static objects. Like the Cook's doors, they are static objects which revolve around a point.

I'm sorry if I came across crossly. I didn't have any intention of it sounding as mean and harsh as it might have.

Theoretically it's possible. There are two issues which need to be overcome.
- The defect in ovlcompiler that doesn't allow multiple bsh's to be specified. This is something that I would track down if I had time, but at the moment I'm almost drowning under the amount of TPB3D work that I'm trying to get through. If I get or need to take a break from TPB3D then maybe I'll go back to ovl compiler and clean it up a bit. It was mostly lashed up to allow Gadget to animate some of his space mountain parts. You only need multiple bsh's if you want them to have different lighting styles, ie. SIOpaque, SIGloss, SIEmissive, etc... Everything else can be done with multiple bones and by baking the textures into a single texture map (which you should be doing anyway since it allows more objects to share a texture and therefore staves off the dreaded lag by freeing up a couple more cpu cycles!)
- The XML interface isn't pretty from a human persepective, someone needs to write a convertor for milkshape or 3ds before really complex models can be animated. It's not that the compiler can't handle the data it's that humans can't handle the data. Creating a convertor doesn't necessarily need hardcore programming skills, if you've got experience at Ruby, Perl or Python then it shouldn't take a lot of effort to pick the bones and transformations out of the milkshape or 3ds formats and generate the XML as an intermediate format for passing to OVLCompiler. If it's possible to get milkshape or 3ds to export the animation in text format then writing a Perl script becomes simpler still since it's all just text processing. Details of the milkshape format are freely available on the web.

Thanks for all the discussion over whether it could be done. I would still love to see ANYONE who will give this a try. You don't have to finish, but just so I can know it is possible. I don't even care about animatronics yet, right now I'm more focused on realistic models of dinosaurs.
