View Full Version : (WIP) Shack-set-UPDATE 2-
UPDATE: Well I managed to get a roof to work without it turning black in Sketchup(this has been setting me back along with other things, sorry).I still have to redo the chimney as it is playing the I am invisible game.I am going to drop out a few things though such as the browner wall in the picture below
as it was acting up but the other wall wasn't(it decided it was a 4m wall not 3m wall despite the fact that both walls were the same in Sketchup). no worries.I should have an update for pictures soon(I have not posted any other pictures because I have had nothing but problems). I do think all of you will like the tin roof,I do need to know, nothing is re-colorable if you would like it to be re-colorable,post and let me know.I do not really like re-colorable textures because Rct3 does not have a very good choice of browns colors to choose from for realistic looking wood(that is just my opinion though).
UPDATE^

Yeah mate you need to host the pictures on the internet before linking them into the forums.
This is sounding interesting, I cant wait to see some pictures of it, just be open minded and also be prepared to go over your initial estimation of pieces as your ideas will increase with time. Can't wait to see what you have made so far mate.
O.K. I don't have my own site.Is there a few sites that let you post a picture and a download link for your set.......If you know of one could you supply a link.

Those textures look great, PB&J! I do have a few suggestions for some pieces...how about some walls with boards missing...maybe walls with holes in them...broken windows...boarded up doors and windows...roof pieces that are partially collapsed...that sort of thing? :D

Great start. The roofs fit perfectly with the walls!

Whilst the textures do look fabulous, I have concerns over their resolution. A single 4x3 wall piece should have textures that are 128x128 any larger and you're going to cause a slowdown in the refresh rate very quickly because of the amount of texture data being passed across to the graphics card per frame. Each time you double the size of a texture, you quadruple the amount of memory used.
Remember that most pieces are seen at a distance not close up, optimise them of that use case.
Thanks for the advice Mr. Cook I'll change the wall texture size but if I change the roof texture size the shingles will look twice as big and that will look a little goofy.....but like you said you will be seeing them from a distance.
Fisherman I am going to do broken shutters,I'll see how I do but I don't make any guaruntees about holes in roofs,I could do boarded up windows and I will make a few pieces with board textures with ruff ends. I'm trying to keep the polys on everything below 100 so far everything is below 20 but I've only made roofs and walls. I will edit this thread later with a list of pieces.
adamb241 thankyou I got the textures from CG textures, there is also going to be a slate style roof(thank you LuckyGirl for the texture thread.)

What program do you use to make these? Sketchup?
Changing texture resolution doesn't mean that your shingles will look larger, they should look the same in most cases. A 128X128 images stretched and pinned to a face can look just about the same as a 512X512 image in Sketchup.
I just tried it(I use Sketchup)It was 512x512 and I shrunk it down to 128x128 in paint and there were like 3 shingles in the texture. Is there a trick to doing this?

Get The Gimp. On first glance I didn't find a good way to do it in Paint.
Sorry for all that trouble, I just thought of what I can use, Photo Shop because it resizes things without cropping them.(Photo Shop is fine right?)Here is a list of the pieces in the set.

I think the tree stump is a good idea. What do you have in mind for the decorative corner pieces? How about making some lights? Those would be a great addition!
Well for the decorative corner pieces I was thinking just a corner piece made out of wood just to help make the shack look a little more finished. I was thinking of doing lanterns but this is my first set so I'm not all to experienced with lights but we will see what happens.I am having a little trouble finding a good texture for the metal chimney, it wouldn't be so bad if I did a two cylinders for the chimney, instead I did two hexagons which works out well but it makes the texture repeat alot which looks odd,it might look fine ounce I get into Rct3.

I like the looks of this set... nice job!!!
Almost done I have finished the walls, the ribbing, the roofs.Oh, know how I said I was doing a slate roof,It is going to be a tin roof(the ones with the waves in them)It looks alot more "shack-like". I do need to know for the tree stump do you want a hexagon textured like a treestump,a treestump like it would look in Rct3(as most of you know the trees in Rct3 are not round just two lines put together),or the hardest one go all out with roots coming off the tree stump(watch those polys).......maybe a surprise piece of some sort......

Sorry for the double post(Biogal,Skipper,Crowheart)I have to get this thread back on the first page.
Then ask one of your fellow members on the forums to post for you. That is called bumping and it is NOT allowed. You can always ask me if you need to post. Have anymore pictures to show us?
With all sincerety forgive me,as I did not think to ask.
Pictures will be here soon!

Here's your post so it can stay on the first page...
...But I'm going to recommend page 2 or 3 unless there are more updates! It's been almost a week. Is this over?
BTW: Your texture looks amazing. That is very realistic. Keep it up.
