Working on a new Titanic set,

http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/8927/shot0010ju0.jpg

I can't find the OVL files in the Themed folder when i install with RCT3 Importer, so when i'm finished with the set I can't make the set available for download!

Please!

Looks alright so far. But why are you making this set? Can you think of any uses for it? There aren't many uses for a Titanic in a theme park, and if anyone wanted to make a Titanic ride... well, Birou's already done that, I doubt there will ever be one better than his. And if I was Birou and people started making Titanic rides using just a single piece of CS,. I'd feel a bit annoyed that people are trying to 'compete' with his ride just by clicking and placing one item of scenery.

Don't get me wrong, this could turn out to be a great model, but I don't really think there's any need for it.

Even though there's a Titanic set already out, it does'nt matter. If he wants a go at it let him. Dont break him down like that it really has a effect on CS creators. Good luck with this

I like this. I could use it for a que house structure, scenery for a dolphin or whale show, a shopping area, part of a water ride....there are a thousand uses for this. It doesn't have to be "Titanic' just because the set is called
"Titanic".

Its just a scenery set. The other Titanic set didnt have the ship and this one does. Who cares if there is another Titanic set. You could use it as a scenery in a park, just like at Disney Sea in Tokyo they have a giant boat. You could do so many things with it. Use it for a restraughnt exterior, a movie theater, and many other things.

Great job so far on it. Cant wait ot see the next update.

As a B-I-G fan of ocean liners - my site is www.ocean-liners.co.uk - I would love to use the classic hull shape with straight or clipper stem and counter stern to recreate my favourite ships!!

The Titanic details already released are fabulous :D and would complement your work tremendously. If you need reference material, please feel free to download images from my site or PM me for details/plans if you feel you need these.

Full steam ahead with this most promising set and I look forward to being able to create more realistic hull shapes for my Maritime Museum park and and bits of spare water!!!

i think its gorgeous and it would be pretty useful for my park! The only thing that I can suggest is to make the interiors such as the turkish baths, the first class lounge the reading rooms the saloons and dining rooms..maybe even some of the suites omg it would be gorgeous another thing would be to make it compatible with the Grand Staircase set thats already been released....so if you need any help i would be more than happy to...i would offer to help you make some of the models but your 3d software looks more powerful than mine..if you need any help at all please let me know i really looks forward to seeing this set coming to full fruition!

Good Luck!

I'm pretty sure the area near the stern had "Titanic" on it, but I don't think the front has it (it's a myth). If I'm wrong, please correct me.

Er...are you sure it's on the bow? I'm looking at one of Ken Marchall's paintings and there is no "Titanic" on the bow. Ken Marshall pays extreme attention to detail (he once researched how many stars there were on the American flag in 1912 so he could paint that on Titanic's mast). So yeah, I'm pretty sure the bow has no "Titanic" on it. Sorry if I sounds rude, I'm just trying to help you perfect your model ;). Good luck .

Ah, you're right. Sorry. At school I learned that that the "Titanic" on the bow was added after the photo was taken. Also, I apologize for that; I was viewing the painting in poor lighting ("Titanic" looks like it's black :weird:). Anyway, keep it up ;). Maybe sometime in the future, you can play with the textures, add a few structures, and make Britannic or something.

Quince99
01-21-2008, 11:53 AM

Absolutely right, the name TITANIC was on both sides of the bow and at the stern along with the port of registry, Liverpool. The following from Harland and Wolff's 270 pages of specifications:

"...The sheer line to be cut in and to receive two coats of yellow [paint]. The name and Port of Registry to be cut in and receive two coats of yellow, the letters being 18" for the name on the bow and 12" for the name and Port of Registry on the stern."

The yellow actually looked gold against the black of the hull and separated that colour from the white of the superstructure. In the late 1920s, the gold line was moved down a strake in the plating leaving black either side.

If you specifically want to model Titanic then the sheer line needs to be between black and white as (ovbiously) the Titanic never survived beyond 1912.

Have almost every book with Ken's illustrations in including this one. Have only a very average scanner though - what would you need specifically?

Xcelerate

I'm normally not the person, who talked abouit a high polygon count, but I see, that you have windows and doors in the deckparts. If you really make the Titanic as one single object, you will have thousends of polygons at the end. Use Alpha-Textures to save polygons. A good texture could save time and space.

Also, an object of this size could crash the game, if you have the shadow option on. And a single Titanic object is maybe okay, but don't forget, that you place normally a lot of other scenery beside this object. I don't want to bring you (or any other scenery creator) down, but please accept some hints from us old CS-rabbits.

You can do, whatever you want, but I'm sure you will not go in the RCT-CS-History as the one, with the scenery, that crash the game. So keep always the simple rules for CS in your mind.

simonf

^Yes, RCT Spanky is correct, the polygon count seems to be very high. Wow it looks very nice! Simon, you do realize that the Titanic carried only 16 lifeboats right? That's a little detail for you ;).

birou006
01-21-2008, 01:01 PM
Wow, I wish I had this available to me during my ride. Oh well, that's life. Anyway, Titanic actually had 20 lifeboats, 16 ones on davits and 4 collapsibles. They both floated off the ship and one capsized.

Also, I think it would be cool if you could upload the Titanic pieces at a 45 degree angle, that would be sweet, showing the ship sinking without having to seriously tilt the camera (like I had to). Keep it up. Can't wait to see the smokestacks and other details. ;)

remykyes
01-21-2008, 01:09 PM
Did you also realize that it (sadly) was above the required number of lifeboats for a ship that size back in 1912? So sad. Only enough for half the people on-board. And many of those lifeboats were never launched with a full capacity. Over 2,228 people on board and only enough room for 1,176 of them to get off the ship. 711 people were saved that night or 31.97% of the total passengers and crew onboard, meaning that 68.03% perished either on-board the Titanic or died in the freezing waters of the north Atlantic Ocean.
