The Park inspector does not really know what to make of it...
This is my most ambitious project, has taken quite a bit just to get this - quite a few more pieces needed to complete it - I have big plans ;)

:eek:WOOO HOOO:eek:
I allways thought this could be a good idea in RCT. I think it would be great to those trying to re create Theme parks and for most of us that want the rides that arnt in RCT. I'm guessing these will just be scenery items?
Once again Another great set Stuk. Any ideas when your other set will be relased?

Possibly animated scenery... (is it possible?) or animated textures, doubt its a ride event.
Either way, it looks great!

I really don't think we will ever see any 'custom' working rides in RCT3 - but as scenery...Hey, even animated 'scenery' rides one day
As for this one, I don't have the knowledge to animate it, Besides, from what I have read on these boards from Vodhin and Belgabor even simple animation is a major pain - and the motion of this ride is anything but simple. Would be cool though and something I have always wanted for RCT3 ;)
This started of as an experiment really, I was playing around with Milkshape - then I wanted to see it in game - It is not complete - I want to make a motor of some sort to sit in the housing in the middle, possibly some fences, and a booth - lights would be good too - a couple of pieces have not worked out too well, the railing on the back of each car and the leg struts, but you don't get to see that till it's in game.
Any ideas when your other set will be relased?
It was finished today and has been uploaded to Vodhin.net - I'm guessing it will be up for download in the next day or two - I'll keep links updated to it on the Canopy101 thread
Looks amazing :D I sent you a PM as well :)

How many polys are there?
hmmm, I knew that question would come up... I tried hard at every turn to keep them down - as it stands it's 612 polys

Thats good isnt it :)

Yup, 612 is probably about right for something that complex.

01-21-2008, 06:57 PM
Wow this is absolutley amazing. This is what I was talking about, make CS rides. Then as we move on start animating them then make them ridable.
Vodhin
01-21-2008, 07:59 PM
612 polygons is great! and the texturing of this ride is just sooooo perfect... Hmmmm. I wonder how it'd be animated...
Boston
01-21-2008, 08:15 PM
You could always set it up as a bench, and have it look as if peeps were riding it, even though they're really just.. sitting.. I don't know.
Looks awesome, though. 612 polygons, if anything, sounds like too little for a whole ride!
shaun allsop

Id say the polys aree good for a ride that complex, I thought it would be allot higher. Any ideas as to what your adding to this set?

This looks so good, Stuk! It seems like this could be one of Frontier's rides. And only 612 polys? For something that complex that is incredibly low-poly; and it looks so good! Awesome textures, as well. Keep up the great work!

awesome! someone should totally research and figure out how to create rides i mean some one had to find out how to make cs and stalls and stuff why not rides?
for the time being it should be animated at least
good work
Belgabor
01-22-2008, 01:43 AM
Because rides are extremely complex to animate and need a couple of spline structures which are not fully understood.
rideslover
01-22-2008, 02:16 AM
Belgabor: animate sound like a great for two different rotate like one left rotate for bottom arms and one right rotate for top arms. yeah too much work for animate for eight tubs rotate too.
Great for low poly for Eyerly Rock-O-Plane the eight cages.
I don't know if how many poly for the Eyerly Spider has 12 tubs.
Other one that was the Eyerly Monster has too many poly for 24 tubs.
RCT3 already have Two Eyerly's Roll-O-Plane and Loop-O-Plane.

Thank you for all your positive comments. Lets see how this turns out...
Spent this morning tidying up the model. I also tested out some different texture settings, which I was advised would probably work better - so far it looks good, note how the support struts are stronger and the railing at the back of each tub is much defined and clear
If I get more time today I may get on with some of the other bits and pieces I would like to see; motor, lights, trailer, fences, booth...erm, anything else? so there is plenty to do

As always I'm surprised what you do with Milkshape (especially when I compare that with my own creations).
I hope this fantastic ride-cs is something like an ignition for the cs-researchers here. I'm sure, custom rides will be possible someday. If the structure in RCT is too complex, maybe one can write a program that allow to bring rides, animations etc. in the game on another way. And I wish, Frontier would support us with some hints and tricks (Spanky ... dream on).

WOW! Great job. The attention to detail hits the spot. Yes, I agree, with the help of adding some lights. I would set each light anywhere from 1-2 in diameter. You don't need them to shine too brightly! :)
Overall, great work! Looking forward to seeing more progress on this piece!
Because rides are extremely complex to animate and need a couple of spline structures which are not fully understood.Well, if animation was the only problem we could still have static rides (like fun houses) ;)
Btw.: Looking really great. Hope you'll be able to animate it sometimes ;)

01-23-2008, 01:36 AM
That looks really well done nice job. Even if its static I am sure people will use it.
The up and down might get hard but to just give it a rotation would not be that hard if you wanted to give it a simple animation.

Hey his Vodhin and NOT Merlin!!! :p I appreciate very much what he research and release in the past with animated scenery. But good things need time. Personally I would add this ride in a park as scenery and maybe I can update this ride someday with a working version.
In fact it makes no real difference, if we use it as a static ride or as an animated ride, until all those UCR's (User-Created-Rides) are "just" scenery. I like the high level of details.
But we shouldn't here talk over non-possible things, oversee the precision of this model and say "Awesome" to some blocky objects with bad textures in other threads.

Very nice job. i don't care if it doesn't run, it still would look good in any park.
The Paratrooper is along the same lines as this and would also look good.
http://www.negative-g.com/IndianaBeach/IB2002/IB-2002-Paratrooper.jpg
I know nothing about animated scerery but maybe the paratrooper could be animated. It has one basic movement - it goes in a circle and the
seats swing out as they go up and around and return straight on the bottom (like the swing on Vodhin Sky Car).
The Octopus on the other hand has three movements, it goes in a circle, each arm goes up and down and each seat spins.
Just a thought.

I like this model a lot - The complexity of the animation process for this ride is considerably more advanced than my very basic modeling/animation skills. Animation (for RCT3) had only just been discovered when I decided to not go ahead with this ride. I felt it was not worth the huge amount of time and effort to produce what would only end up being a pretty piece of animated scenery.
I do keep an eye on the huge advances that have taken place with ever changing importer software and CFR's. The fact that milkshape animation can now be used pricked up my ears. (the files and animation of this ride are all ms3d files) The idea of embedding sound really got me excited too - got me listening to all types of household gadgetry, wondering how they would sound... slowed down in some sound editing software - that could be fun. <grin>
10 seconds of animation testing recorded back in January 2008 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7uxup3SEisE&eurl=http://uk.youtube.com/my_videos_edit2?ns=1&video_id=7uxup3SEisE&next=%2Fmy_videos2%3Fpi%3D0%26ps%3D20%&feature=player_embedded)

I wasn't trying to advertise my park. I was using it as an example of one of my videos that uses the octopus ride. I just didn't understand making something that was already included in the game but since you put it that way, it does sorta make sense.
