Went to the Austin area Anime Convention called Ikkicon today, not too bad for only it's second year in existance. Mostly focussed on the Funimation & ADV stuff. Had I known a bit earlier about it, maybe I would have tried to go the whole 3 days. They had 4 bands I have never heard of (Vaeidos, Ruskia, The One Ups, and Lisa Furukawa).

Lots of Voice actors: Larissa Wolcott (Excell in Excell Saga), Aaron Dismuke (Al Elric in Fullmetal Alchemist), Vic Mignogna (Ed Elric in FMA), Kira Vincent Davis (Lots of roles), Carrie Savage (Lots of roles), Chuck Huber (Hiei on Yu Yu Hakusho), Leah Clark (Nodoka on Negima!), Tiffany Grant (So many roles it's not even funny), Josh Grelle (Several roles), Wendy Powell (Envy on FMA), Greg Ayres (Negi off of Negima), Chris Ayres (Suitengu on Speed Grapher), Kyle Herbert (Aizen & Ganju on Bleach), Brina Palencia (Nina Tucker in FMA), Samantha Inoue Harte (she runs her own studio now), & Chris Patton (Loads of stuff).

Anyways the dealer room was a bit small, but did have a pretty decent selection of Manga, DVDs, Figures, Cosplay items, and other stuff like swords, fake guns, and stuff you never knew existed.

Speaking of cosplay, I did not do that this time (maybe next time). But quite a few people did cosplay. Obviously lots of Bleach & Naruto. I did see a few surprises though: a Pyrmid Head from the Silent Hill series of games, a rather slender young lady wearing the Slave girl outfit that Princess Leia wore in Return of the Jedi (darn should have got a pic of that), a very nice Yuna from Final Fantasy X-2 (Singer costume), a Ghostbuster with a pack with working lights, V for Vendetta, a Shredder from TMNT, and a guy who looked a lot like Kevin Smith (and even dressed like him). There were also a few Haruhi's from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzimiya (but no one did the dance).

The video rooms were not really showing anything interesting when I was there, but they did have a premire of Black Blood Brothers on Saturday.

I also did not go to any panels, but should have gone to the Bootleg one, since it was hosted by Greg Ayres. I also saw Vic, but the autograph session was for members only.

Picked up a couple of items. A DVD grab bag with 2 DVDs & 1 Interactive DVD game (DNA2 Vol. 2, Patlabor The New Files Vol. 1, and Tea Society of a Witch interactive game, also got a Street Fighter 2 window cling, a Karas button, and a couple of Funimation promos). Got Yotsuba Manga vol. 1 (by the same author as Azumanga Daioh), and a Godzilla blind box (got SpaceGodzilla). So I did not really get too caried away with spending $ (I could have easily spent a LOT at the DVD booth alone).

Anybody else go?

>>Black Blood Brothers

That reminds me that there is NO news on the impending Second Season, which AFAIK has not even been announced yet.

I didn't go, but did you have a nice time, Eric?

I had a fun time, obviously not quite as large as a convention as say Sakuracon (in Seattle), but it has room to grow, and if they move to a bigger place that would be nice. The one thing about having an anime convention in a hotel is that sometimes people staying at the hotel give you a funny look.
Plus you have to deal with the elevators to get to the video rooms.
