ok I was at my college waiting in the commons (an area where students congregate) when the news brought this to my attention. aparently a 5th grader died immatateing a stunt from the show.

-Above is a link to an artical about this incident.

-Honestly I thought someone would die doing something on DBZ, but Naurto? come on.

oh yes I remember this. Parents really have to be mindful of what their children do when playing. Things that look innocent can become an accident.

I remember when so many were imitating the power rangers abd copied fight moves from the shows. I remember one young teen who hurt some peers with that "Saban-fu".

DBZ is another area to watch imitations for. We don't want anyone playing Goku thinking Nimbus will swoop in and catch them.

Sorry, but the fact that there were a group of kids involved, and not one of them realized that burying your head is bad, really strikes me as idiotic. While I feel terrible for the family for such a tragedy, at the same time, I have to wonder, "Why head first? What fools!" But, I grew up in a beach area, so we knew to bury ourselves feet first!

Also, there's this thing called supervision. Especially if your child does such risky things.

we discussed it at Godzilla also, that's where I first read it. It is tragic though. :(

I had no idea that this topic was already posted. I assumed nobody knew so I posted this on a relevant thread.

-Id half to side with catgrrl on this one. its things like this that ruin it for those who have a strong grasp of reality. not that theirs anything wrong w/ disclaimers but to half to put that on a show that wasent considerd adult swim is just plain sad.

In this day an age it is of utter importance to explain the dangers, especially to kids, 10 and under about things... And I agree with the guy who said Parents should see whatever their children are watching, and if it's an action oriented film,.. if it's wrestling wwe whatever.. being careful not to imitate teh stunts is important... They have those kinds of warnign before stunt shows and stuff... It's just so sad... I think in this case i think it's mostly a tragic accident, but hopefully this will incourage the media, schools, and parents the importance of telling kids not to copy the stunts/events they see on T.V. because they often can be dangrous and not realistically possible in the real world... I've seen quite a bit of naruto, and while i dont' think most young kids try to mimic his powers, (since most of them are very unrealistic/impossible for someone to do), it's important to explain to kids not to attempt these kind of things (And if I remember right naruto even sometimes says stuff like that during it's little conversations, that happen at the end of the show... maybe not.. but still)

I don't think banning all violence is the answer, it has to come more from the parent side of being aware of their children's interest, adn waht they watch... and I think the media can help to by having little segements (like a commercial in lenght) stating not to mimic their heroes, as it is a cartoon and many of those things can be dangerous to try...

Which is why the WWE says on every show "Please Don't Try This At Home".

They used to have "messages" from the cartoon stars about dangerous stunts, like trying to jump a live power wire. But for some odd reason they did away with them.

Eric: You mean like the G.I. Joe P.S.A.'s from the '80s?

My favorite:

The sad thing is that enough kids must have done this to warrant a PSA in the first place...

Yep, that is what I was talking about. They did a couple on Transformers as well, but they never caught on. I suppose it was kinda scary for a 10' robot to tell some kid not to do something stupid. Especially when compared to the "normal" GI-JOE people.

I almost want to ask an age related question, but it is rude to ask a lady's age (I guess you are an actual lady Catgrrl...)

This incident has been talked about in several forums on Atari and elsewhere.

Heck I actually used to live near Everett, and my brother does live there.

Wonder if it was anybody I ever met.

Ask away! I'm 27, and a lady cat! ;)

And I will admit, that yes, we imitated movies and cartoons, but I don't ever remember doing anything dangerous in our imitations. I guess even in our young minds, we knew we were only human. That or we feared what would happen if Mom and Dad knew we were doing something that could get us killed. :bulb:

Just to say, that's the last thing I can think of from DBZ that kids would imitate. I can image that more would have tried to fly, shoot a energy blast, or go Super Sayian.

Terrible stuff though. I haven't seen much of the dub of Naruto, but I do the the Japanese version had notices at the end. But they don't help much If the kids ignore them.:(

I didn't know about this. This reminds me of the death that resulted from teens imitating Mortal Kombat moves on their little sister.

Wow you people are still talking about this? I thought for sure this subject would have died off by now.

-Look lets just say that we need to be aware of what our children watch on tv. (or for those not old enough just make sure your little bros and sisters arent doing something stupid.)
