As you may already know that DasMatze has stopped working on his Triggered Particle Events. So now I am going to fill in that spot. This time I'm going to take requests from the community. You can add anything including scenery, they don't just have to be particle effects. Just list anything!

God, I need this set, and for someone as great as CS as you are, I'm sure it will be an awesome set. I Just found a bunch of things in there that I would really like to have... (lunging creatures, falling rocks...) Anyway, here's an Idea: A set of roadblocks that fly through the air as though the coaster crashed through them. That would be way cool...

I do not know what your smoke effect is going to look like but can you make a steam effect? What I am looking for is a jet of steam that comes out of a pipe or something. If you do make it can you make a few different angles like 45 15 90. Just another idea, essentialy a "wall" of what I just requested. So you go through a doorway and there is a "wall" or "blanket" of steam that you go through. This set looks awesome!

This is great, since it will further expand the bounderies of RCT3. However, may I ask that you try and make the tornado more of a mix between grey and brown? Also, (if it's possible) could you concentrate the dust in the center? I know this is alot of critiscism from a noob like me; please don't take it negatively. I can't wait to see more :D!

PE is usually shortened for particle effects, it is called this becouse all the effects are made of lots of images (particles) released at different timings, and different directions and on top of eachother at different colours to produce the desired effect.

OR

The term particle system refers to a computer graphics technique to simulate certain fuzzy phenomena, which are otherwise very hard to reproduce with conventional rendering techniques. Examples of such phenomena which are commonly replicated using particle systems include fire, explosions, smoke, flowing water, sparks, falling leaves, clouds, fog, snow, dust, meteor tails, hair, fur, grass, or abstract visual effects like glowing trails, magic spells, etc.

While in most cases particle systems are implemented in three dimensional graphics systems, two dimensional particle systems may also be used under some circumstances.

Typically a particle system's position and motion in 3D space are controlled by what is referred to as an emitter. The emitter acts as the source of the particles, and its location in 3D space determines where they are generated and whence they proceed.

The emitter has attached to it a set of particle behavior parameters. These parameters can include the spawning rate (how many particles are generated per unit of time), the particles' initial velocity vector (the direction they are emitted upon creation), particle lifetime (the length of time each individual particle exists before disappearing), particle color, and many more.

snailmale, there is nothing preventing you from doing particle effects. I know from what I read they are no small feat. Even the most experienced folks here that create cs have a doozy of a time doing it.

So if you can do it I think Germantaco would have no problem with you creating and sharing your own.

RCT3-Dude if you really wanted something from someone, going about it this way is starting off on the wrong foot. As you can see its been over a month since GermanTaco has replied in this thread. So he is likely busy with real life, other cs, or just not far enough along on this project to post anything. Take a breather, lay off the coffee or energy drink, and relax.

You installed it wrong,

The thing to remember is that the game engine is designed so it follows a specific path to access each scenery file. If that path is altered - by placing the file in the wrong spot or extra files being created - the game is unable to access the file.

The most common error is where an extra folder holding the CS files is created. The way to check for this is to navigate to where Scenery folders are stored. Most people will know how to access this, but I'll lay out the steps for those who may not be sure:

If you are running XP, you probably have an icon on your desktop called "MyComputer", double-click that icon to open.

Most people have the game installed on it's default position, so find where it lists your hard drives and find "(C: )", double-click on that entry to open.

Now you need to find a folder named "Program Files", again double-click to open.

Among the individual folders should be one labeled "Atari", go ahead and double-click to open.

Inside you'll find the folder for "RollerCoaster Tycoon 3", open that.

Inside are lot's of files and folders required in the game, scroll down and find the one labeled "Style", double-click to open it.

Customs Scenery goes in the folder entitled "Themed", yep, go ahead and open that one too.

Here you will see all the different scenery folders - in-game and custom. This is where you place your custom scenery folders. Find the folder for the set you are having problems with and open it.

This is the important part, as soon as you open that folder you will see one or more files or folders that are the actual individual object files PLUS there should be two OVL files...one named Style.common and the other Style.unique.

Those two OVL files MUST be there for your CS to function properly. That's where the path the game follows to access them says they must be. If they aren't, then usually an extra folder has been created during the zip process.

If the two OVL files are missing, is there instead just a folder with the name of the scenery set on it present?

I thought so. Go ahead and open that folder. Chances are when you open it you'll find those two missing OVL files plus the actual scenery files/folders.

What's this mean? Well, the path the game is looking for when you see those two OVL files is C:\Program Files\Atari\RollerCoaster Tycoon 3\Style\Themed\Set (you can see the path up at the top of your screen).

The path if there's an extra folder will show C:\Program Files\Atari\RollerCoaster Tycoon 3\Style\Themed\Set\Set. Note how that folder at the end appears twice? We need to get rid of that extra layer. It's simple to do...

Find the folder that holds the two OVL files (along with the actual object files/folders that were there with them.) and drag that entire folder to your desktop.

Now in Style\Themed you should have a folder with the name of the set that is empty. Delete that extra folder.

Now you can drag the correct folder (the one with the two OVL files) from your desktop back into Style\Themed. That should make the path correct for the game to access the objects and the set should now work.

How does an extra layer get formed by mistake? Well, there's several ways but one way to make sure it doesn't occur is to always unzip new CS set's to your desktop FIRST, and then find the correct folder (with the two OVL files) and drag it to your Style\Themed folder yourself. If the CS set comes with an .exe file, I always change the destination to have it go to my desktop as well.

Hey guys, um im having trouble with the effects too. First i am aware of the Svd: For Sid problem but my problem is, every time i try to click at least one of the effects it brings up this "Failed to open file. You may have to insufficient access rights: Particle Effects\(anyone i pick).frw. I did download it on GermanTaco's website, and i did download it in the folder themed. I also checked the post that RCT3robin posted. If anyone can help please do it, I really need these particles.

PS: GermanTaco, the website and particles look great, and could you make the boulder idea back i also need that too.

Usually a problem associated with Windows Vista. Basically you can't move/copy/edit files and folders that you didn't create (as in the install disk created them, not any person) and or you don't have rights to fool around in those folders (someone else owns the computer and your user account is bloacked from them).

Basically you have to be the "owner" of the files and folders in order to do anything with them. I suggest that you go read up over at support.microsoft.com or if your computer belongs to someone else, get them to move the files.

I saw a post on another site from Dec 23rd that Germantaco should be getting to work on this project again; however I'm have trouble registering there to ask if there was some way to get a copy of beta since his site is down. I think the things that he has completed so far look really great, especially the water splash down and explosion. Does anyone know if the beta is still available or be able to get a copy? From reading the posts from the last few months I don't think he closed the beta to anyone.
