I'm working on a large fountain for the park entrance in sketchup and I find it hard to actually get a circular water area and a path that matches it aroudn teh sides.. so i thought I'd do a 7x7 square with the fountain in the middle and then match the edges so that they square up with say Shyguy's footpath covers..

in sketchup I'm guessing I want to pull a square up some to a certain height so that it matches the footpath covers.. how high should it be to match up right? Also does anyone have the texture to match the footpath covers that are most used? or should I make my own covers...

I hope i got my point of what i'm trying to do across.. I'm thinking if the area around the fountain is too high the peeps feet will disappear into it.. too thin and the ground will show through. here's a pic of what i have done so far..

The fountain is huge, Isn't it better to resize it a bit?

No. It isn't. Because this is the size I need... My idea is make a 7x7 area of water and then put my fountain down inside that area.. there are more pieces to it but those will all be modeled separately...

I think Shy's covers are 0,1 above ground.. you'd have to ask him for the texture and if you can use it.. or just use something that looks like it.. but than you might as well make some pathcovers yourself..

If you need to, you could always just make your own path covers to match the texture on the path around your fountain. It will be nearly impossible to get the textures to match exactly unless you use your own.

path covers are 0.1 above ground level.

thank you everyone... I didn't know if SHyguy made his own texture or used one that was more widely available.. I hate having to make my own covers though.. I believe that could get tedious. Is there anyway to get it to match the texture that is already in-game.. I'm thinking of the tarmac path exactly.

Ok I still need a bit more help with this one.. As I seem to have lost my touch at what I learned months ago.

I'm guessing the path covers are going to be .01 instead .1 cause they path covers didn't match..

My first iteration of the fountain last night in game turned out well.. but there was a few changes I needed to make.. so I went back to the drawing board this morning and whipped up a new model with a few changes.. when i got doen texturing the model and importing in the game.. I got this..

some of the faces aren't appearing in game.. what did I do wrong this time?

It's supposed to be a pool in the fountain (but I didn't dig the 7x7 hole and fill it with water this time) and a raised concrete part in the middle of the fountain for something else.

make sure that when you set the view of the faces in sketchup to monochrome that no purple/blue faces are showing, if they are, right click on them and reverse them :)

hmm I don't think I set that option... I did tell it that I didn't want to cast shadows on the ground part

its not an option, its a check, the sides only show up on one side, if the wrong side is showing (the blue side in sketch up) then that face will not be visible

Ok.. where's the check at so I make sure I have it right.. cause I must have missed it.. I've restarted the model again because i'm cutting down on he number of sides in the circular parts for less faces basically

EDIT
Nevermind I think I have it.. I just used the reverse faces options when I right click a face.. it's all white now when you said purple it confused me because mine is a baby blue

umm.. go to view--> face style -->monochrome.
make your model while on that setting and then texture it after everything is done. rememebr to put it back to shaded with textures when you have done.

if a part of your model that you will see in game is bluey purple when making it, right click on it and select "reverse faces"

Ok well I got it working.. I might go back and redo some of the textures.. the stonework is a bit to bright white to me. here's a pic so far of it but as for now it's done enough to work on other things I need.
