Well, I wanna learn CS, so I downloaded sketchup, and read some tutorials. But they were confusing. But I easily made this, I guess you can say, pool of some sort.
here is a pic.

SO I have that... What exactly do I do next?

obviously not close enough :P
also your model is upside down :haha: the sky is blue :D
also your circles/cylinders have too many sides and need to be reduced (also how to do that is in stickies too i believe..
you also need to use your own textures so you can import it with the importer becouse sketch up textures cause unnecessary problems.

This helped me completely start from scratch in custom scenery making and now im creating my own pack(hint)
here it is:http://www.chaosxtreme.com/rct3/totorial_main.html
read through basically everything, it helped me

Do you have the export script for sketchup? If not, you can download it here (http://www.ataricommunity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=553399). I know it can be really confusing, but Surfingoz has made really easy to learn tutorials that explain how to import scenery from sketchup. You can find them here (http://www.chaosxtreme.com/rct3/totorial_main.html) on his website.

Wah! Its upside down.. lol. I have my own textures for import. This is just a test. :) Thanks for point out that it was upside down!
EDIT! Well, Ripclaw, I love that site thank you SOSOOOO MUCH!!! But the SketchUp stuff needed for RCT3, the links dont work :( , and I am on amac. So would these things work? IF not, I dont think ill be able to do any CS because im on a mac :(

They should work on mac, you just need to find out where you need to install them to (I don't know).
The scripts are available on my software page (link in my sig).

Oh Thanks, I know where to install them ;)
Now, another link isnt working...
I've created a supplementary script for the creation of custom scenery called rct3.rb (v0.2). To work it needs at least version 0.2 of the export script and the parametric script
where can I find these?
Edit, Never Mind, all i ned now is Supplementary script for RCT3and the 0.2 of the export script

As you see in my object the ''brown'' is under,At your picture the ''white'' is under;).
(don't forget textures need to be 256x256,512x512 or 1024x1024.)
Then don't forget to group them seperately.

I have a question. Do I have to group, each texture, individually? Or can i group all of them all at once?

THanks
and when I open, I just installed some things needed, it says

if u have more than 1 texture, group the same textures. but if u only have one group them all in the same group. here's a tutorial on mutiple textures:

you can make your model and texture with difernt textures. then when your dont. right click the texture in the materials window and hit select all or select area. that selects every face that has that texture. then you can group. then you can select your groups on at a time using the ctrl key and right click and hide them... then you can clean up any access lines or faces.
then edit > unhide> all
and you need the parametric.rb file to load the other one.

is there an importer, and ovl maker for mac?

Well, for many simple textures, 128x128 or 64x64 is really enough. I even sometimes use 2x2 textures for single colored parts.

No. The Importer has too much Windows code in it to be easily convertible. ovlmake should be possible, but without a Mac I cannot compile it for this platform.
Both may work with wine though.

But what if I downloaded it for windows on my other computer. And did all the stuff on my mac, put the object on a flash drive, and took to the windows would that work?

Good luck learning CS because i to started learning yesterday and i have manged to make a cube and import it and test it which it works =]
i now have plans to make a phone booth, portaloo (you know those single ones) and ground foliage so like you can place a square of leaves under the tree on the ground. mine are only basic but its good to start simple.
so yer good luck!

It should work, but only if you click on a box that asks if you want to make it compatible for windows when you do a back up.

I have a question, the textures re 800*600.... Does it matter? Does it effect anything?
Oh yeah, how do I do trabs parent object? Do I make aa picture, with transparent backround?
StarRngr4.0
06-23-2008, 01:04 AM
It very MUCH matters. The importer will require that texture to be square, and in a multiple of two... in this case your best bet would be to resize that to 512 x 512.
You are correct about how to apply transparencies to a model though.

512 x 512
I can manage that!
And is it that easy? I mean, All I have to do, is make an image with a transparent back round? thats it? Eh, im gonna try it out.

Umm if you went to plug ins and click full tile then it places it all those small inner squares are guides so basically the tunnel would be 1/16th of a square.

I have a problem, when ever I try to resize the image in gimp ( I type 512 x 512) the right number switches to 514...... It wont let me do 512 x 512...
Any idea on how I can resize?
edit.. Nevermind, I think I got it, when you get new textures in it lets you resize, but.. I have a question..
its....
512.0m
512.0m
is that correct?

That is true,But for some texture's it might work.
However chris is right, Use google and typ ''resizer'' or some.

Their is a very simple fix to this actually. When you are in the "Scale Image" menu, you will see a a vertical chain next to Width and Height. Click the chain and it will break apart. Now enter 512 for both fields and it will work. Reason being, you texture was not originally a square texture size so The Gimp doesn't want to create distortion to the image. So that should be the problem you are having I believe.

No, the size of your texture doesnt really correlate to any sort of RCT3 measurement, as it gets mapped to the faces of your object before it draws.

thats was i did, but it put the .0m at the end of it.
here is a pick of another object I made, its all one texture at the moment, and its a turn for the other piece I made. I have changed some things of the other one to fit this. Such as the ceiling. This also shows the edit options for the textures to show you what im talking about.

You are still in SketchUp, you cannot fix your texture size there. The setting only changes how your texture maps by default, not it's actual size.

You should be able to change the size using Paint, or download InfanView, it's a free program and I sometimes use it. Make sure that any box for "Preserve Aspect Ratio" or similar is unchecked. Good luck.

It has been some time since I ran a mac. I just remember that when I was doing back ups when I was in college. The school had macs and I had a windows pc. So in order to work on projects in a crunch I had to bring stuff home to finish.
I think they had a specific program on the macs in order to do this. I did do a little searching that might help you a bit here is the url if you want to read up on it.
http://www.jagshouse.com/Macs_and_PCs.html
Hope this helps you out.
