just type in the name of the section selected (must be a group). you do not need to touch layers. then just click on another section (group) and the feild should go blank for you to type again.

but dont you want the whole thing to be one group?
or do i have to group and import everything separatley that are the same color?

no. you give each texture its own group. for example
you get a bag of m&m's and you dump them out... you have a bunch of colors (textures) just take all them and make them into groups. a group of yellow, green, red, blue ext.
same with modeling. you make your model then groupthe differnt textures... a group for oldwood933, group for cab window, group for tire... then you select the group you made and name it. i name it the same name as the texture as im using
i use texture car_tire_dirt_006.jpg i will name the group something like car tire dirt.
you dont want to group them and then group them into one big group. keep them seperate.

You group each texture, Right click on the group and go to entity info, Put there a name ( The texture name recomed), Then klick somewhere in the screen , but not on the object,And then press export ase. You don't have to select anything.

But watch out that the poly coun't isn't above 500;).
Below 100 would be the best.:p

hey no double posting!
anyway.. to fix the sideways issue, after you load the .ase file you should see a box called transformation mix. click edit. a new window will pop up. then go to the lower right hand corner
and click fix orientation.
happy modeling! :)
