I am attempting my first CSO I'm doing this step by step though.
Right now I want to make a cube 3h tall and 1 game tile. What measurements in Google Sketchup should I use? Is there any type of scale such as 1ft = 1h?

Thanks,
-A.C.

3 meters for the height

4 meters for the game tile, I.E make it a cube that's 4X4.

Yes. an in game square is 4meters by 4 meters.

There is a script that has a template included as a plug in, so you might wanna check that out.

Window/Model info/units

Set it to decimal and then meters.

Did I do it right?
If so now I need help texturing.
I want to try and make it recolorable but if its more complicated than a solid texture I'll learn it later.

Recolorability is using a solid texture.

Color selection 1:

Color selection 2:

Color selection 3:

For texturing, just hit File/Import/ (select an image) and there is an option on the right that says 'Use as Texture'.

Look at some of the tutorials, they will be a better guide.

ok So I pick one of those and use it right?
Or is there some way that I use all 3?

LightGrenades

Yes there is a way to use all 3, you need to group them as such. Also check my post at Shyguy's forums, it has a bit more info too.

Check some tutorials, it's been a while since I've done anything custom related.

No you have to group each colour by its self.

I'd recommend Surfingoz Written Tutorials (http://surfingoz.byethost4.com/Written%20Tutorials.html) Its what I used o learn CS and there pritty much the easyest thing you'll find.

Theres 2 plugins for GS to show the placment and sizes in sketchup. I cant rember who it was who had a working download though as the origonal link doesnt work.

In order for objects to stand up in the game they need to be built horizontally and lifted 2 meters above the rct3 plugin full tile grid. Is there a way to build straight up instead of like this, and then later make it stand up in the importer?

Heres what Im talking about. You see how I have to build horizontally and off the grid?

Also placing objects that have been imported into the game is difficult how can I make it easier like shyguy's stuff?

When you bring it into the importer, check the Fix orientation box in the mesh panel. That will set up an automatic rotations matrix that will reorient your mesh so that you get the same results in game that you do in sketchup.

Albert, most of these questions are covered in surfingoz's tutorials, can't recommend them enough.

On your cube, you haven't downloaded the script that has the placement template yet, the cube as you have it placed right now is not centered on a tile. The template will guide you where to place it to line up correctly, plus it will also probably solve the problem you mentioned with placement...right now you aren't lined up properly.

From experience I learned that using the wall placement template, if I center it on the square it turns out to be between two squares instead of 1. So I adjusted but where do I find this script? I have the rct3 plugin and the aseexporter plugin.

On post #14 it shows that you have the placement template.

See how the blue, red and green lines meet in the center? That is correct. Then look at your cube in post #12...the lines meet up at one corner of the object, and not in the center.

Yeah for some reason when I build on the blue axis in game the object is horizontal. So I've learned to use the green one. Also, for placement in game what option should I use to turn the auto turning off? I want to make placing the object easier like Shyguy's sets.

well it depends on what you want the piece to do, Al. Each of those placement options have their own pluses and minuses that dictate which one will work best for a given situation!

The most common ones are Wall, which you should be familar with from your clowns set. The two next most common are Full tile, where the origin becomes the center of the tile, and quarter tile, where the origin ofsets by 1m x 1m twords the courners of the tile. both can be rotated by using the enter key as needed...
