|It's likely not the download that has a problem, it's making sure it's installed correctly.

Read this and see if it helps:

The thing to remember is that the game engine is designed so it follows a specific path to access each scenery file. If that path is altered - by placing the file in the wrong spot or extra files being created - the game is unable to access the file.

The most common error is where an extra folder holding the CS files is created. The way to check for this is to navigate to where Scenery folders are stored. Most people will know how to access this, but I'll lay out the steps for those who may not be sure:

If you are running XP, you probably have an icon on your desktop called "MyComputer", double-click that icon to open.

Most people have the game installed on it's default position, so find where it lists your hard drives and find "(C: )", double-click on that entry to open.

Now you need to find a folder named "Program Files", again double-click to open.

Among the individual folders should be one labeled "Atari", go ahead and double-click to open.

Inside you'll find the folder for "RollerCoaster Tycoon 3", open that.

Inside are lot's of files and folders required in the game, scroll down and find the one labeled "Style", double-click to open it.

Customs Scenery goes in the folder entitled "Themed", yep, go ahead and open that one too.

Here you will see all the different scenery folders - in-game and custom. This is where you place your custom scenery folders. Find the folder for the set you are having problems with and open it.

This is the important part, as soon as you open that folder you will see one or more files or folders that are the actual individual object files PLUS there should be two OVL files...one named Style.common and the other Style.unique.

Those two OVL files MUST be there for your CS to function properly. That's where the path the game follows to access them says they must be. If they aren't, then usually an extra folder has been created during the zip process.

If the two OVL files are missing, is there instead just a folder with the name of the scenery set on it present?

I thought so. Go ahead and open that folder. Chances are when you open it you'll find those two missing OVL files plus the actual scenery files/folders.

What's this mean? Well, the path the game is looking for when you see those two OVL files is C:\Program Files\Atari\RollerCoaster Tycoon 3\Style\Themed\Set (you can see the path up at the top of your screen).

The path if there's an extra folder will show C:\Program Files\Atari\RollerCoaster Tycoon 3\Style\Themed\Set\Set. Note how that folder at the end appears twice? We need to get rid of that extra layer. It's simple to do...

Find the folder that holds the two OVL files (along with the actual object files/folders that were there with them.) and drag that entire folder to your desktop.

Now in Style\Themed you should have a folder with the name of the set that is empty. Delete that extra folder.

Now you can drag the correct folder (the one with the two OVL files) from your desktop back into Style\Themed. That should make the path correct for the game to access the objects and the set should now work.

How does an extra layer get formed by mistake? Well, there's several ways but one way to make sure it doesn't occur is to always unzip new CS set's to your desktop FIRST, and then find the correct folder (with the two OVL files) and drag it to your Style\Themed folder yourself. If the CS set comes with an .exe file, I always change the destination to have it go to my desktop as well.

1 - How do you know HE does not have this set?
2 - If his instructions did not help you in any way, then the next person better have a magic wand to solve your problem.

There is no right or wrong way to download, but a right or wrong way to install. This set is listed in the complete list, which by itself means that is has been tested and it is working. It also happens to be used quite often, which means that quite a lot of people have installed it successfully. There is nothing peculiar about installing this set. Also, wabigbear happens to be one of those who download almost everything (if not everything) and has therefore practiced quite a bit. I bet he has the set, but even if he didn't, it doesn't matter; no-one has managed to help other people install CS sets better than wabigbear. What he has posted above has helped tens, if not hundreds of others before.

It all comes down to this: read his post very carefully again, head to the pinned thread titled "Custom Scenery Help & Tutorials" to find no less than three additional tutorials and, if none of the above helps (which will mean that you didn't pay much attention while reading, I'm afraid), I think that you'll have to say all the steps you have taken, so that we can help you more specifically.

Did I say that you should read wabigbear's post again?

Yes, I DO have this set, and as I posted on your other thread, if you actually did what I said or read one of the 'Installing CS' threads stickied at the top of the page, it would probably be working by now.

The set is installed wrong. No one else but YOU can fix it.

Edit: Thanks ThingMaker and apet08

Then you were messing with it too much.

Go look through all ur RCT3 files and clean up all the files from this set, and do a fresh install now that you know what to do.

Also make sure you did not delete any of the folders when you downloaded them. You may think you don't need them but you do.

ok, this is what happens, first i unzip the set Romana Amosia to the desktop and the file C:/programfiles/atari/rct3/style/themed (file://\\C:programfiles/atari/rct3/style/themed). (the custom scenery wont show up in RCT3 unless i put the set on my desktop and the style/themed folder). next i go into style/themed and the desktop folders with the custom scenery and count the custom items to see if i have all the items in the folder romana amosia.it shows up that i have all of the items. then i go in rct3 and see if the Custom scenery worked but only half of the items show up on the game. idk what is wrong. i even tried what you guys said.....BTW,i downloaded the set from http://cso.rct-3.org/eddi22/009CSOFreundMenu/SirAsmo/AsmoCSO1.html

After the installation, in your "Style\Themed" you should have a folder titled "RomanaAsmosia". Inside this folder you should have two files, titled "style.common.ovl" and "style.unique.ovl", as well as another folder titled "Romana Asmosia". Inside the latter (the "Romana Asmosia" folder), you should have 222 .ovl files (which translates to 111 pieces in-game, as I've said in a previous post of mine).

If that is the result of your installation, you have installed it correctly, so the problem lies elsewhere. Go on and read.

You previously said that you are aware of all the four places this set's pieces can be found in-game. So, in order to help you, you should tell us the exact number of pieces you find in each of these four entries, ie. how many pieces you find in the "Romana Asmosia" entry in "Scenery/Foliage", how many in the "Romana Asmosia" entry in "Scenery/Path Extras" and so on. If the installation is correct, there is no way the total amount of the pieces in these four places is not 111.

After that, and assuming that your installation is correct AND the number of pieces equals 111, I believe it is a matter of you trying to find the individual pieces. If I remember correctly, the pieces' icons may not be of much help - plus, the pieces' names are in German, right? So you simply have to check each and every one of them. The hard way, I know, but the only way.

PS. The download link is fine, this is one of the places where you're supposed to get it from. You can also try the link provided in the complete list as well.

Forget all of the above! I've just downloaded the set from Xistic's site and it seems it is an old version; only 154 files can be found in the "Romana Asmosia" folder AND the main folder is named "Romana Asmosia" (with a space in between), whereas the proper version installs a folder named "RomanaAsmosia", as I've said above. So just get this set from the link provided in the complete list; I'll make a mention of this in the list's next update.

Thanks for making me see this problem, RCT3MaNiAcZz!

"no :svd for :sid" usually means the OVLs that were meant to come with the package weren't installed in the right directory. Check the readme that you installed it correctly and that all the files were copied over.

also, it is often caused by the zip being broken, if you download it again and reinstall it usually fixes it... it is rare in that case that it says that the zip is broken or damaged in most cases though, although i have had it happen once ;)

After the installation, in your "Style\Themed" you should have a folder titled "RomanaAsmosia".

I had trouble getting the set to work at first after installing it correctly. After reading the above I checked the name of the Romana folder inside the Themed folder and it was "Romana", instead of "RomanaAsmosia". Before I changed the name the game would load up fine and everything seemed to work properly until I would select or hover the mouse cursor over an object from this mod. I would hear a *ping* sound and the game would freeze up. After changing the folder name from "Romana" to RomanaAsmosia" everything was fine. I checked the downloaded file and the folder is named incorrectly.
Just thought I should mention this.
