View Full Version : [HLP] Rotation/Particles

I've created a few particles a block that disappears after placement. The problem is, when I rotate the box, the particle is still shooting in the same direction (particle direction does not rotate with black box). Is this a flag setting or something I'm doing wrong?

you set rotation you what particle go down or up you set all that up in the AFE

I'm just using a test particle - the blood sample that's on the list of particles in the importer. I'm not making a custom particle with the AFE (yet). I already placed a start and end point in Sketchup, and the particle works fine - but the blood shoots one direction even after I hit the Z key to rotate the placement cube.

It got be rotation in the AFE that the only way I wish could help more.

the particle end has to be offset from the start point otherwise it does not rotate, the best way usually is to set the rotation to 90 degrees in the AFE and have the start and end points horizontal to each other. if the end point is directly above or below the start point then nothing happens

thats probably what you have

you need something like that
the particle will them move sideways so you need to set the rotation in the AFE to 90 degrees to compensate for that.

Quick Q -
What does Particle END actually do? Does it give the paricle the direction to go in, or does it tell the particle where exactly it stops?

it tell the particle effect where to stop I don't think it give particle direction

particle start is were the particle emits and particle end is were it travels toward unless any other forces act on it (such as gravity or drag)
just imagine particle effects as a unchangeable mortar, when you place fireworks in RCT3 mortars there is an arrow, the start point is the base of the arrow, the end is the tip of the arrow. the same is for particle effects only the "arrow" is invisible

So basically, particles have their length preset so they know where to stop - you are just telling it the direction it's going with the particle end?

yes, you will see if you play around with the AFE that you set the time and distance life and speed of the particle in there, if you set it to have a short life and not much speed then it will not go as far as if you do the opposite. as far as i know you can put the end point wherever you like and it will always travel toward it. i think the only reason it is called an end point is that if you put the start point in exactly the same place as the end point then it turns the particle off. so for you not to get confused you should call it the emitter point and the direction point ;) even though that could make you even more confused :haha:

no problem... i don't think there is a tutorial for particles yet... not a very understandable one anyway....it might be something i add to doughnutville...

there school you can join do particle effect fir works over at rct3pyro but there not going by this it this one vpyro.
