Superman: Ride Of Steel…Better
Six Flags New England Announces Major Transformation

Six Flags New England announced today plans to reinvent what has already been named the best Steel Coaster on the Planet, according to Amusement Today, the nation's leading theme park industry publication. Since its debut in 2000, SUPERMAN: Ride of Steel has electrified guests from around the world. In 2009, this incredible machine will be redesigned with imaginative special effects and newly renovated trains. The transformation will be complete by Memorial Day.

“Six Flags is regarded as the undisputed leader in thrill ride innovation and at Six Flags New England we're taking that reputation to the next level,” said Larry Litton, Park President. “The coaster that separates itself from all others will deliver an unprecedented ride experience.”

Going above and beyond traditional steel coasters, this state-of-the-art invention will undergo a revolutionary makeover. The adventure will send riders up 20 stories while flying through fog banks, fire bursts and heart-pumping audio for three minutes and twenty two seconds of extreme thrills.

The re-launch of SUPERMAN: Ride of Steel will mark the start of another exciting season as Six Flags
New England cements its position as the area's premier “daycation” destination. The park offers fun for every member of the family with world class shows, three children's areas —Wiggles World, Thomas Town and Looney Tunes Movie Town and New England's largest water park, Hurricane Harbor — with park admission.

Guests can experience all that Six Flags New England has to offer with a 2009 Season Pass. This purchase offers the best value with unlimited visits to the theme park and water park and comes with a coupon book featuring over $300 in special offers including free concerts and 5 Bring-A-Friend-Free tickets. A Season Pass can be used at all Six Flags Theme Parks throughout the country and are now on sale. Purchase at sixflags.com for the lowest price of the season — $69.99, and enjoy the remainder of the 2008 season including all the thrills and chills of Fright Fest presented by Snickers®.

This sounds really cool.
Now,if the on board audio is Superman themed or is somewhat relevant to the name of the ride,I say awesome. If it's weird, random Frank Sinatra,it's bad.Same for the fire.If it's a cool effect as it dives into and out of the tunnels, awesome. If it's at a random bunny hop, bad.

So,my opinion is,if it enhances the Superman theme, great but if not, bad.

I like how you think the golden tickets are paid off, then title one of your threads referring to them. :)

Hey, Six Flags is actually doing work on a ride! Wow!

X from what I heard was in dying need of a refurb.
Superman ROS doesn't really need it.I'm wondering if they feel they have to to make up for the loss of the Dark Knight coaster.

I would have liked to see them try to soup up the Batman floorless to be Dark Knight themed. On board audio and a few fog and fire effects would've worked.

Yes but they are actually working on a more family oriented wooden coaster. It's good cuz they need more of those

yes! that must be it! they made the themed wild mouse with the hour and a half wait...so now they prob. think that they have to make it up by doing something right!
:haha:

Hopefully the new trains won't diminish airtime, but I don't see why Six Flags would do anything like that to the best coaster in the world...

TTD's reliability has been very high in the past few years. Remember that TTD's height causes issues (such as wind) that don't affect X2 nearly as much.

Sounds pretty cool. X2's refurb made the coaster Substantially better, and rocketed it to #1 on my coaster list. If they do as good a job here, I'll be dually impressed!

Strikes me as odd that they would want to change a ride that is number one rated. The ride doesn't need gimmicks...it is class as it is.

It would be wiser to spend the money on jazzing up a lesser ride in my opinion. SROS does not need it.

I'm in a wait and see mode with the renovated trains. IMO Superman does need a little TLC, so I'm happy to see them show it a little love. ...As long as those evil words, OTSR aren't brought up.:sour:

They're refurbishing Expedition GeForce? :p

Six Flags does seem to be on a renovating roll after X2 and now this.

It is my true hope that Six Flags can keep these effects going for years to come, rather than let them fall into disrepair.

Anyone remember the mist effect on Maverick?

The one thing I would agree with us the new trains.

Those M bars are horrible.. meanwhile, the new trains will have the U bars.. found on Toro and most Intamin Prefabs.

De-lici-ous.

^Suh-weet!

As I previously said, Six Flags did a very good job on X2, so I'm expecting similar to better quality from this...

And yes, after a full summer, ALL of X2's effects are still operating without problems. Looks like Six Flags is finally learning its lesson about maintaining rides!
