Maybe it's their apology for the $75 ticket prices?

I've gotten about four things free from Disneyland in one day. Fail!

Cedar, you're beginning to tick me off abit.
Now,this is a GENIUS move for Disney. GENIUS. They are getting publicity up the kazoo for "Free Disney ticket".Think about it.Families will now plan 5 or 7 day trips, stay in the hotels, spend the money on meals and merchandise.MORE people coming in (possibly for higher resort prices) and Disney isn't paying much for it.
GENIUS.

Nope, very smart marketing, something you still don't seem to/won't understand, EVER.
They charge $75 because they can, like how Ms charges $300 for Vista Ultimate.

Beginning? "lol disney am evil!11! $75!!1!"

Exactly. They can charge $75. They can. World famous and world class park with classic rides. Possibly best out there.
At first,I was pissed. "An event on birthdays? You suck Disney!". But then, I talked to my buddy Pat McCabe about it and he explained to me that it's a genius move on Disney's part. I now agree. Think about it. They're going to rake it in from long trips people are taking and forking over only $75 a family.

Is it you're life's goal to flame me? It sure seems like it. I also love how you brought MS into your comment. Totally off-topic. :)

I personally think that Disney did an excellent job with this new campaign. Free birthdays are a way to get more guests into the park, and more guests means more money. Plus, they have a catchy new theme and theme song.

I thought that "The Year of A Million Dreams" was okay, but it got really old. Good job, Disney. Now, let's talk about building a ride without a Pixar theme...

Ticket prices also come from a balance of what Universal and Busch pay; its all market down there.
I think.

Sorry, I agree with LtG. This is right out of the page annnouncement:
Since not many people celebrate their birthdays all by themselves, they are going to drag along countless friends and family members to go with, all of which will have to pay to get in.
Nothing is free when it comes to Disney. I wonder what it cost Nethero to get those four "free" things...

One time I was just waiting in line for a ride late at night and some guy comes along and gave me a balloon for free. Don't know why.
Another time there was some guy that was giving out free tickets to an event going on in Disneyland (Might not have done much with Disney cause I think he just had a spare)
Another time I was buying something at the emporium and it included something else with it for free.
I don't remember what the last one was, but I think it was something that the giant Mickey entertainer was giving out.

I don't know where you got that I was flaming you...
You always criticize any advertising/marketing you don't understand, did you know that?
And the MS comment was to put it into perspective.

So, you didn't buy gas to get to the park, didn't pay for parking, didn't spend money on food and or souvenirs, Disney reimbursed any lost pay while you were there, You paid no entry fee to the park?
See. nothing is free.. The birthday thing is just they aren't charging one person admission. They don't get you there, pay any earnings you might be out to go, free food, drinks, etc....
Here's free: I happen to be standing around, and a man hands me a wad of thousands, no strings attached... THAT'S free...

Not a bad idea...but the whole "big announcement in New York" for something as regular as a marketing campaign just screams overkill to me.

That is not what I was talking about.
Those four things I got were free meaning I didn't have to pay for those items. If you think something isn't free because in order to get to it you have to pay for gas, rent, and taxes, I guess if anyone isn't a millionaire those people won't have enough money to support themselves.
My point it, they do give out things for free. Parking isn't one of them and neither is the food, but every now and then there's something that you can have without paying for it. I don't think to myself "I know this isn't REALLY free cause I had to pay $20 on lunch"

Indeed. Smart marketing. It will generate more attendance and boost profits within the park (food and other things that people buy).

Totally agreed.
Also, I agree with everyone who thinks that this is smart on Disney's part. When my friend heard about this, she was like, "Oohh... I should do that for my birthday... And bring like 10 people..."
Very smart Disney. :)

Being a passholder, this is going to suck. Higher attendances all through the year.:( But at least it probably won't be that bad because, like Skip said, there's a lot more finances to go along with the trip. Even as a passholder, I still pay a lot to go, just, not as much with free entry, free parking, and discounts on almost everything. Also, more people might use it as an excuse to go to Disneyworld.

For passholders (soon, like myself, oh yes), there are little things too, which is lovely. :)
Genius marketing from Disney here, really brilliant.
Also, I have got free things from Disney before too. A Dream Fastpass being one, I might not have got that, but I did. Hence, it was free. If everyone got one, then it wouldn't've been free, it was included in admission. The fact I and a few others did, and others did not, for me, says it's free.

My wife and I got the Year of a Million Dreams pins free as one of their giveaways during the promotion. Heck, pretty much all of their giveaways during that time were free including all the free night stays in the Castle suite and the apartment above Pirates at Disneyland plus the Mickey suite at Disneyland.
Now, if you want free food and like sauteed mushrooms, they're given away at most fast food restaurants in WDW/MK. I know... I've had to eat a meal that was nothing but mushrooms before.

Disney gives away a **** load of stuff for free just as a marketing write off. In the CC I made a few posts about the Toy Story Mania! VIP party I went to over the summer.
4 free days at the park (to be used at any time over the next 6 months)
free weekend at the Grand Floridian (OMG, awesome hotel)
free buffet dinner
free Fantasmic! show
free dessert table
free Disney tour bus transportation.
oh, and the package included 4 of these event tickets. So I don't know whats stuck up Skipper's rear, but he obviously doesn't get how promotions as a whole work. Gas :bulb:? Straws man, straws.
Whats Disney get in return?

No idea honestly, by the crowd I saw sitting in front of us I would say no; but it was the first time I saw the show.
My group was placed in the back behind the crowd, we had dinning tables and a free snack bar behind us.

You mean that if a cast member gives you something you don't consider it free just because you paid to get in the park? :bulb:

Well, IMO, the Year of a Million Dreams thing was free, but this is not. That was a free little extra, you weren't expecting it, but this is expected in the bill, and you came specifically to claim the prize, and Disney is making you pay for parking and stuff. The difference is, when they gave you a dream fastpass, they didn't ask for anything extra to claim.
