Here's a look ahead into what Alton Towers are planning for the next few seasons.
First of all, it is thought that Corkscrew (http://www.towersalmanac.com/areas/rides.php?id=15) will not be sold to another park - it will simply be sold as scrap.

However, fans of the ride will be happy to hear that the famous corkscrews themselves are likely to be saved and used somewhere in the park. This would be a fitting tribute to the roller coaster that really put Alton Towers on the map.

For next year, Cred Street (http://www.towersalmanac.com/areas/index.php?id=14) is due to be refurbished, with Ug Swinger (http://www.towersalmanac.com/areas/rides.php?id=38) being relocated to the area and presumably rethemed to fit its new home. Cred Street itself will have a new name, which is not yet known, and a new adventure playground will be put in.

More entertainment is also promised, with extra characters and side shows expected on the park in 2009. The Sky Ride (http://www.towersalmanac.com/areas/rides.php?id=30) is also having an overhaul, with new gondolas rumoured to be replacing the current ageing ones.

Across the park in Mutiny Bay, the 3D Cinema (http://www.towersalmanac.com/areas/rides.php?id=83) - which has not operated since 2004 and has since only been used as a shop - will finally be replaced by a Sea Life aquarium. The resort's owners, Merlin, also own Sea Life so this make sense financially. It is said that the attraction is coming from Germany, where it has been a touring aquarium. The attraction is apparently costing £1.8 million to install. It is unclear at this stage whether it will be included in the gate price, or operate as a separate attraction (such as Extraordinary Golf).

Looking further ahead, all the attention is on Ug Land (http://www.towersalmanac.com/areas/index.php?id=23), which will be mostly bare in 2009. With the removal of Corkscrew and the relocation of Ug Swinger, that will just leave Rita in the area. However, most of Ug Land is likely to be a building site next year; the new roller coaster, which funding has now been secured for, will take around a year and a half to construct, so we can expect to see work starting on it fairly soon if it is to open in 2010 as predicted.

And here's something else that enthusiasts will like to hear - ATA has learned that the ride's codename will be Secret Weapon 6, or SW6 for short. The Secret Weapon codenames are well known to fans of the park - Nemesis (http://www.towersalmanac.com/areas/rides.php?id=10) was SW3, Oblivion (http://www.towersalmanac.com/areas/rides.php?id=16) was SW4 and Air (http://www.towersalmanac.com/areas/rides.php?id=11) was SW5.

This does not automatically mean that the ride will be manufactured by Bolliger & Mabillard, as all of the others were. There are various rumours as to the type of ride it will be; one such rumour is that it will be a Gerstlauer Eurofighter, an example of which can be found at Oakwood in the form of their ride Speed. A ride of this type was originally planned to replace the Black Hole but that plan was shelved at the time.

Another rumour is that it will be an Intamin Wing Rider coaster, such as Furius Baco at PortAventura in Spain.

Whatever it turns out to be, it will change Ug Land as we know it, and presumably the area will be renamed to fit.

I wonder what the next coaster will be, and I hope Ug Swinger gets a good retheme.

Thanks for posting this. I don't live to far away from AT so I will be able to visit it sometime.

I hope it isn't a eurofighter because Thorpe Park is getting one to.

I can't wait to see what they will build, and I agree with Doffy about the eurofighter. I hope it will be a good B&M or something like that.

I hope they update UG Land when the new coaster arrives! It's a great area but without Corkscrew or UG Swinger it just won't be Ug Land!

In my opinion Rita never fit with the Ug Land theme so hopefully they'll update the theme and make Rita look better than ever ;D

I wouldn't mind seeing an Intamin Wing Rider coaster as Furious Baco looks awesome ;D Can't wait to see what will happen in the next few years ;D

If they move Ug Swinger only Rita and the Skyride will be left!

I would love to see an Intamin Wing rider in there as that would fit very well with the trees and hilly uneven landscape, it could meander through it and have a great intense layout with some nice close encounters because of the seating arrangement.

To be honest I think the park shouldn't choose to build a Euro fighter as Doffy said as Alton Towers and Thorpe Park need some more rides that are unique and stand out more, not just rides that look the same but have different layouts or themes and Alton Towers could do with another Intamin to balance it out more imo.

Thank you for posting this information Simtanic8.

^ I agree :) They need something new to stand out... Stealth and Rita are quite similar, Nemesis and Nemesis: Inferno... It would be nice to see a different coaster to give people a new reason to visit AT ;D

Congratz on the 300 posts luke ;D

They should start off with extending their daily operating hours.

How about one of these:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d1ItUGoggC8

Its an Eagle Coaster made by S&S Power and I think it would be amazing to have in Alton Towers. Just think of the possibilities. Flying through the air, it turns into a ravine, it looks like it will crash into a wall then the eagle turns vertical. That would be amazing..

They should make a coaster based on the movie SAW...

That would be fantastic. But I would prefer something a bit more thrilling!

They need something like Apollos Chariot at BGe. Something tall with repetive drops.

^ They can't build above the tree line, so it probably wouldn't be possible for them to build a hyper coaster.

I wanna buy something off of corkscrew now lol.

I'd love an extension to oblivion......... maybe a loop would help it.
