Flamingoland Announce UK's Steepest Drop Coaster!
I just found news that my local theme park is building a new coaster for 2009:up:
its a El Loco model from SS Power, similar to Steel Hawg which IMO look kinder rough, but it looks interesting

Flamingoland Announce UK's Steepest Drop Coaster!

Flamingoland (http://www.coasterforce.com/www.coasterforce.com/flamingoland) (Malton, UK) has announced their new coaster for the 2009 season! And it has a staggering 125 degree drop!
Currently unnamed, the coaster will be an El Loco model, built by the American company S&S Power, the same company responsible for Flamingoland's Cliffhanger (http://www.coasterforce.com/index.php?categoryid=144) Drop Tower. This coaster will be the first of its type in the UK.
Flamingoland has also been the first UK park to introduce a Vekoma Motorbike Coaster, Velocity (http://www.coasterforce.com/index.php?categoryid=142).
There is one more of this coaster type in the world, Steel Hawg in Indiana Beach (http://www.coasterforce.com/Indiana_Beach) (USA).
Incase you havent seen Steel Hawg- Link (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=8QTLw8GnXcc)

Steel Hawg?
And yeah, I'm happy these rides are getting around. Definitely something unique.

Its in North Yorkshire, its not a bad park at all tbh, they got a very good verkoma invert called Kumali, which to my suprise is quite smooth and has a very good first drop
and of course it has a huge zoo on one side, so it offers something different

I saw this on coasterforce.
Thorpe Park isn't going to be happy now that SAW isn't the steepest coaster in the UK.
Thanks for posting this here.

Thorpe made such a fuss about it being the steepest! :haha:

I remember them saying though I may be wrong that it was the steepest anywhere but they have been blindsided over the angle. Though after 100 degrees it just becomes very, very steep in my opinion and it is just steep. After a certain point for everything numbers don't matter, it's just lots.

125 degrees? Sooner or later, someone ( :cough:Six Flags:cough: ) is going to try to make a coaster with a 180 degree "drop"...
Although honestly, the coaster sounds interesting, though seems too short.

Um... someone actually has, except they don't call it a "drop." S&S Power, the same people who are building this new coaster, have a coaster where the track curls back under itself. In fact, this type of coaster, the Screaming Squirrel, is the inspiration for El Loco coasters.
Imagine heading down a level track, and then making an outside Immelman turn, so that you're now heading back the way you came, directly under where you were, but you're now inverted... feet over your head. That's a Screaming Squirrel.

Interesting ride...rode it in 2005. Gimmicky though.
But Steel Hawg looks more like a "proper" coaster. Looking forward to this one in the UK.

i was shocked when i found out it was flamingoworld, how did they afford it?

It's Flamingoland, and El Loco's are not super expensive like B&M's etc. Also considering they have a large and very smooth SLC and a launch coaster they are not really a little fair any more:).

Apparently...
I received a very interesting letter from Flamingo Land last night in regards to the steepness of Mumbo Jumbo (112º) and how it’s compares to last year’s Steel Hawg which claims to have a 120º drop. According to what they tell me, Steel Hawg is really only 111º and not 120º. It seems Steel Hawg was intended to be 120º in an early design, but the engineering had to reworked, reducing it to just 111º. It seems the marketing types never got the memo on the change and have been promoting it as 120º ever since. Assuming this is all true, then Mumbo Jumbo will indeed take the record for having the steepest drop on a steel coaster at 112º. In the meantime, they were nice enough to send out some artwork showing off the Mumbo Jumbo track layout as well as a look at one of the new cars.

^ Well, they will still have the record, and the GP will not care it's 13 degrees less. Still a very good coaster choice. This looks like Wild Mouse 2.0.

I still maintain that you cannot get steeper than vertical...more than vertical is not steeper, the angle of drop to the ground is actually less.
Call me a purist!

You can thank me for taking a trip to Indiana Beach with my protractor to correctly measure Steel Hawg.
This ride looks sick. Looks like a wild mouse on drugs.

Really i am glad that flamingo land have got this coaster because it would bring more peeps to the park, but i just hope that ligh****er valley should get one of these coasters because they have not got a lot in the park now.

^ Ligh****er valley aren't going anywhere i dont think.
No money to purchase anything good,
Ive seen rumours of Intamin Invert and Vekoma Inverts but theres no substance so them tbh, Ligh****er valley will most likely buy on old vekoma or schwarzkopf!
To boot I heard the ultimates on its way out already.I hope not, poor manufacturer, poor layout, absolute gem of a coaster, the roughness is fun, and really is the true meaning of terrain coaster, bests a few B&M in my mind.
Really fun experience lol, hope thats not on its way out
Ripons a proper nice town too, hopefully camping there again later this summer with a few people:up:
