You say "Terminator: The Coaster" and I do not think of a wooden coaster, at all.

Maybe they were thinking as a steel coaster it would resemble a "machine" too much.

I agree that a wooden rollercoaster is a strange choice, I was thinking perhaps a launched coaster or atleast a steel coaster.

"Terminator: The Coaster?" Okay, obviously the SF management and the people that came up with this idea in the first place are complete morons. Here's two tips that I've thoughtfully compiled for the morons that run Six Flags...
1. Stop with the franchises
2. Pay Disney or Busch Entertainment to name your rides for you :p
I knew that it was going to be Terminator-themed (more "branded" I should say) for some time now, but when does a wooden coaster fit in with the Terminator theme? Even if it has an Apocalypse/Terminator theme, it still doesn't fit with the wooden coaster style.

Yeah, It's an odd theming choice, but It still looks like a cool ride.

Why is this a woodie? That's really the only thing I don't like about this coaster. It sounds like a good ride, but I don't think many people would even think of anything made of wood when they hear Terminator.

It's a ridiculous concept.
1997 has been and gone without any machine war, the story lost all credibility after that blunder!

Nah.. that is Thorpe.
A woodie called Terminator and a steelie called Saw, go figure.;)
Anyway, I think everyone is missing the big picture here. ...Another GCII woodie is being built.;) For me it's just another reason to visit SoCal in 2011, the other being the Transformers of course.:D

In my opinion, theming for a ride at Magic Mountain is the smallest factor. I go to magic mountain for rollercoasters. It will never be Universal Studios or Disneyland, but that's part of its appeal. I'm almost positive that they will change the name to something generic again because it doesn't fit in with the Cyclone Bay area. Maybe they will close it for a year after it is open for a while, then rename it Psyclone2 :bulb:. Reguardless of how irrelevant the theming will be, the ride itslef looks like it will be fun.
Spring 2009????
Thats a bit soon isnt it?...

It is an odd choice for theming. Clearly, they were trying for something economical. In today's world, $10 million isn't a lot of money for a major coaster. However, I'm assuming that either the need to build for earthquakes or the theming (or a combination of the two) is taking up a good chunk of that price. ValleyFair's Renegade, built in 2007, cost $6.5 million, and is more than 250 feet longer.
Heck, Blue Streak at Conneaut Lake Park, built in 1938, is 2900 feet long.
So, while I always applaud a new custom-designed coaster, I do think a park the size of Magic Mountain could have and should have come up with a longer ride.
Naturally, it is possible for a shorter ride to pack a good punch. Kentucky Rumbler at Beech Bend Park is only 2827 feet long, and it is a very enjoyable ride. Waldameer Park's 2900 foot long Ravine Flyer II is also an excellent coaster. However, while I really enjoyed RFII, my biggest complaint about it was that it felt incomplete, with coming to a much-too-abrupt stop.
I really hope that Terminator turns out to be a great coaster. I just wish it was longer so that it would have less risk of feeling like an incomplete coaster.
The construction of this coaster does make me wish that Cedar Fair had retained the Star Trek naming rights. I could have envisioned a very amusing advertising war with the construction of a Borg-themed ride at Knott's Berry Farm:
Magic Mountain: "Join the resistance!"
Knott's: "Resistance is futile!"
Oh well.

That would have been good.:haha:
Here's a longer video of the new coaster. I hope Robb doesn't mind.

So true.
Ugh, I am so frustrated. When ever west coast tries to get something good, it totally back fires. I mean I would have been perfectly fine with a Evil Kenievel clone but the layout seems disapointing, the theming is disapointing, and it doesn't even look like it fits the park. If CGA only got their woodie this year, maybe the Westcoast would actully look good

For your information Little Miss Sunshine is Fox movie! ;)
But, then again, Little Miss Sunshine would fit more with the theme of a wooden coaster than Terminator.
Although I didn't mention it before, the coaster does look good. It's the whole Terminator theme that ruins the whole coaster for me... and it just makes it look cheap and gimmicky. But, I'm sure that it'll be good regardless of what theme it is. :)

lulz, the park only has one wooden coaster right now, Colossus, which is mediocre at best. Magic Mountain needs a decent woodie badly, and this solves that problem.
I think some of you guys should stop shooting your mouths off, and be happy MM is getting a freakin' GCI with Millenium Flyer trains. The only people who have a right to shoot their mouths off are the people with a home park that's newest major coaster is over 20 years old; people like me. I would be so excited if a park near me was getting an awesome woodie. Sure the name sucks, but isn't it all about the ride?
Coaster (yes, that's the name) at my home park has one of the worst names ever, yet it's one of the best wooden coasters on earth.

I can safely say that for once I 100% agree with you. ;)

The coaster itself looks brutal...in an orgasmic way. Sort of looks like a modern incarnation of the Crystal Beach Cyclone or something.
But the name? Jesus Christ, what the hell is wrong with these people!

Not that it really matters if the ride sucks. If it's better than Psyclone, it's an improvement. And Psyclone was very, very bad, from what I've heard.

My point is that we've been there and done that.
Why couldn't it be a Dive Machine, or a ride like Farenheit or Maverick, or a B&M Hyper rather than a cheap knock off of a B&M? Just face it, SFMM has added so many coasters that anything new will be something that the park has had already. The park already has 4 inverted coasters (not including X2), 3 B&M elementals, and 2 scenic coasters. Just think about it, they took out a crappy woodie only to replace it with..........a crappy woodie. :weird:
The only thing that would've been good about this ride is if it was designed by Intamin.
Westcot
10-23-2008, 07:45 PM
You also have to remember that Six Flags is in a bunch of financial trouble right now. In fact, I'm surprised that they're even building a $10 million coaster. :)
SheiKra's cost was around 13.5 million, and Griffon's cost was around 15.5 million. A launched Intamin (using Maverick for an example) was 21 million. Plus, not to mention how prices have gone up since then.
The ride itself looks good, and GCI has proven itself to be a good coaster designer. The whole thing that doesn't make sense to me about this ride is the theme. They could have created an original name and theme, but they went the cheap (or more expensive with licensing rights) and tacky Six Flags way by using another franchise.

This park badly needs a family ride. Most of their coasters are extreme scream machines. The only ones that that are not are the kiddy coasters, Revolution, Ninja and Goldrusher. Also do you really think they could fit El Toro in there? In my experiance GCI's are good coasters. Small, compact and they produce great rides. Look at Lightning Racer, Eviel Kenival, ROAR, Ozark Wildcat and Renegade.
The park does not have one thing... A wood twister.

That's like saying death metal isn't just metal. If you want family rides then you should just drive down the road to Disney Land.
BTW just cause Intamin made El Toro doesn't mean it's the only woodie they made. And Roar aint all that special. Rattles you up so much, it's like you're on LSD.

I was using roar as an example. My personal feeling's about this coaster will be it will be better the Psyclone. Now they could make it longer but they would have to take out Da'Ja Vu. Not such a bad idea to Six Flags managment as it is Down too often but it for us that would be bad. Gain a coaster lose a coaster. Well anyway like Westcot said they don't have the money for anything big. They could have use the money however to fix up some of their underpreforming parks, SFA and SFKK. Really why keep a part of a park with two coasters Closed. Oh and I know they have made other woodies. I think American Eagle was one and White Cyclone was another.

I think the whole point is to have families come to your park, thus the reason for building a family woodie. ...Though I could be wrong.;)

Agreed. While I think the theme is a little ridiculous, I'm glad Magic Mountain wasn't sold a few years back, is much cleaner than it was a few years back, and is building something. While I would have preferred a few flat rides to cover the ones that were taken out, I'm just happy they're building something.
I have to say, I think it's rather amusing how some people here think they just already know the ride will suck. Is there some time machine device that lets you go into the future and ride it or something? If there is, I'd like to know. :) Also, although I do agree it does seem a little on the short side, it's build to suit families. Some people are forgetting that.
Try to consider the fact that all you have to judge the ride on is a teaser showing the basics.
I personally think this looks like it might be a great addition to the park. They are seriously lacking in family rides, and although it looks short I can't wait to test it out when it opens.
