View Full Version : RCT3 Importer & SketchUp help
Hey,I 'm new here.
Yesterday, I decided to try making my own CS, so I found this video tutorial on youtube.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UqlemKIreR4
I just downloaded sketchup (and the plugins), so everything is at its default setting except the things that the video told me to change.
When I draw a rectangle and bring it up into a cube, (or draw anything) it doesnt become white or gray when its a complete polygon or whatever, it stays see-through, with just a cube with lines. I think thats preventing me from adding textures too.
Here's what I get: http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f89/djmk93/sketchup.png

it seem to me that you got the face set to wireframe.
just go under view and go to face styles and change it to shaded with texture
hope this help
I just tried that, but it was on Shaded with textures already, so its still not working. Thanks though.

show a picture of your view settings, other than that all i can guess is that you have an inviable texture on it.
Here's the view menu with Toolbars,Edge style, and face style open.

EDIT: Nevermind, problem fixed. And I made my first CS. I call it Brick House.

Sorry for the double post.
I'm having a problem with the uploader.

I get this error message when I click Create Scenery OVL
Also, am I supposed to put every texture I use under the textures block thing? Because before that error, it says 7 of them are unused and will not be included.

Hard to tell from the screenshot, but it doesn't look like you've grouped each of your textures. So right now the importer see's a model with only one group (which is the whole model), and that one group has no texture assigned to it, it then see's these textures you say you want to use, but they aren't assigned to any group, so it ignores them. The error message is telling you that NO texture is on the model, so you can't import it I think.
For instance, on your model you need to click on all the faces that use the roof texture so they are highlighted, then right click your mouse, find "Make Group" on the menu that will open, the model will show a box around all those faces, right click on that, select "Entity Info", find the texture you used and select it. Do that to each different texture, then before you export the ASE file remember to click on "Select All" and THEN export. The model should then have all the individual groups show up in the importer, and you just re-assign the correct texture to them
When I tried to group them, I didn't think it worked, so I'll try it again.
Do i need to make a group for textures that are only on one object?
Sorry again for another double post, but people are barely posting here, and the topic keeps getting pushed down.
I'm still getting the error. I made all the groups and assigned the group mesh things in the importer.
Please help anyway you can.

are your textures the right size?
I don't know the size, I used the textures from sketchup. It worked with the cube though.

They may work with SketchUp, but to work in RCT3 they have to be a SPECIFIC size. They must be perfectly square, and the size must be to the 'power of 2' - that means 2X2, 4X4,8X8, 16X16, 32X32, 64X64, 128X128, 256X256 or 512X512 in pixels sizes.
SketchUp textures will only work if they match one of those sizes.

It can be jepg , PNG or BMP as long as it the power two like wabigbear said above .
Never use the textures from SketchUp.

Why? Is it copyright?
Don't know exactly, but I know they cause more problems than it's worth using them.

ya, and apart form the fact sketchup textures look incredibly nasty unless you are doing a proper 3d model of a building properly and you haven't any polygon restraints (which is what the program was made for)

EDIT: Okay, I tried making a bench.
http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f89/djmk93/Shot0003.jpg
1. I think I know how to fix the bottom part.
2. When the peeps sit on the bench, they sit perpendicular to the bench. lol I think I followed surfingoz's tutorial correctly, but I'll run through it again tomorrow.
3. The top part of the bench is recolorable! (YAY!)
...Where is everyone?
Okay, I fixed the other problem, and now the bottom part is recolorable too.
I also noticed that it isn't very proportional to the people. I'll fix that tomorrow.

^That's what I mean by my other problem.
