There was an outbreak of a fire in Sylmar, Los Angeles today. Unfortunately, I was going to go to Six Flags Magic Mountain tomorrow, but I dunno if that is possible now because the fire is going out of control from what I have heard, and Six Flags is like only 11 miles from where the fires are taking place.
Anyone know if Six Flags is going to be open, whether it is open today, tomorrow. Thanks.
I was going to go, but I guess I am going to miss out on X2 and Tatsu again!

It's not open today due to "area freeway closures".

11 miles? It's quite funny because in the UK you could be 3 miles away and there would be no mention of it affecting nearby parks.

California wildfires are worse than what the UK gets. We have rolling hills covered in very dry grass. Get a wind going and the fire could travel several miles in very little time.

The question for me is, why is California always on fire?

Heat, dry grass and dry ground. Perfect conditions.

It's SO dry here most of the year. Plus, the environment itself is just a disaster waiting to happen.
Additionally, we get Santa Ana winds, which don't help much at all. I can't remember the last time we had a decent rain shower since early this year.

There are 3 seasons here, dry, drier and fire. Add to that monster winds and developers building on every available surface and there's little chance of avoiding a disaster..and that's before you add in the randomness of dry lightening and the stupidity and carelessness of people. Turns out the Sylmar fire was caused by college kids and a bonfire...in the dead of summer, no rain, just before the winds were predicted to start. Gotta love the brain power in that group.
Agreed. Arson fires, unfortunately, are not uncommon in SoCal.
Take the fires from last year as an example. A few of the bigs ones were arson.
