View Full Version : Which New Attraction for 2009?

Which major new for 2009 attraction are you looking forward to the most?

If it is not a poll option, post it.

Mine is probably a three way tie between Manta at Sea World Orlando, Prowler at Worlds of Fun, and Diamondback at King's Island.

Manta is a flying coaster, which I love. It also appears to have a splashdown, which to me is just an awesome feature.

Prowler is a GCI woodie. Enough said. I love GCI and this looks like a good one. After talking to PR Manager Brandon Stanley, he got me really hyped by saying there may be little to no lights during the night. If this is true, this ride at night will be crazy.

Diamondback just looks massive. That first drop looks awesome and B&M hypers are always great.
Appears to give good airtime and like I said before I really like splasdowns.

There's mine. What's yours?

Diamondback is the closest, and also looks the most appealing.

Manta is what I'm looking forward to the most. The layout and proposed themeing are amazing... and flying coasters are always great! Rip Ride Rockit looks good, but I like the more "traditional" B&M approach without launches and fancy inversions. :)

Definitely the most interesting project though, is probably the SRoS transformation. The track has been painted purple so far, and Lex Luthor (Superman villain) was revealed as the CEO of the parent company of Clawshun (the fictional company that's doing the SRoS transformation). It's going to be interesting to see what happens to the coaster in the future...

Manta looks awsome as well, can't wait to see how that looks with the theming.

The refurbs don't count.. lol

Hollywood Rip, Ride, Rockit! (Universal Orlando)

It is something new to the US, and it looks actually quite good. Of course, I've been wrong before. I thought B&M Hypers were actually GOOD. What a mistake that was.

Well I don't know which is what I find most appealing yet but it is between Manta, Diamondback, and Hollywood, Rip, Ride, Rocket. Terminator is very ugly, Prowler is a bit short but nice, SROS and Medusa are what they are last year, and Saw has the best name ever! :-(

Saw and Hollywood Rip,Ride,Rockit!

I know I'm never going to ride them next year, but I wanna see them and see how they look like.
I'm also expecting the "ringºracing" in the Nürburgring theme park in Nürburg, Germany. It's going to be the fastest coaster in the world (yes, the Kingda Ka record will be beat!) with 0-127 kph in just 2.5 seconds.

I really think this is another ride just built for the record, mostly because from the looks of it, it will not have any hills. A least KK and TTD had a hills.

I voted for Terminator beacuse if there is one thing SFMM needs, it is a good GCI twister.

The fastest coaster in Europe doesn't have any hill and it is my favorite coaster. Not for being the fastest coaster in Europe, but for having such a good car type and an awesome invertion.
I'm saying that Kingda Ka might no be amazing, I sure wanna try it someday, I'm only saying that a coaster doesn't need to have a big hill to be great (yes, hills are important, but not the most important). A good coaster needs to be confortable after all, and you have to feel a good sensation on it, even if you're not climbing (and falling) a hill.
I'm also thinking that this is a coaster just for the record, but for me, that I've never ridden Kingda Ka, I'm curious about it.

After seeing what SF did with the "X" refurb, this almost dissapoints me. The "X" to "X2" refurb was awful (if you must know, PM me). Now they're going to take another fine ride and probably destroy it. I'll just have to ride it though to find out.

Why yes, you can! :D
To answer your question, I just don't see the point in a non-inverting loop. I could be wrong, but I think something like a ... oh, I don't know ... a pretzel loop (http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/files/dsc00220_140.jpg) would be a lot more fun. ;)

boston you don't like typical coasters do you?

Not necessarily. I just like a coaster that stands out of the pack. To me Diamondback will just go down as another B&M hyper, but Manta is very unique, what with the aquarium and such.

SnooSnoo
11-21-2008, 02:00 PM
^A non inverting loop we haven't seen before. Riding something such as that, as you look down on USF, might be a tad bit of fun.

To be honest, the pretzel loops aren't all that fantastic.. as really they are the best part of an already subpar type of coaster.

zackness5
11-21-2008, 02:13 PM
manta by far, b/c of the water skim, and this flying coaster will give u the greatest sensation of flying(water skim, flying over a lake full of mantas, ect.).... but that rip ride rocket's "loop" has got me very interested. but u cant judge a rollercoaster by only one inversion. but since i live in NJ, it really depends on how the medusa refurb goes off.

SnooSnoo
11-21-2008, 03:49 PM

Of course.. you are judging a whole ride because of the water skim.. but who is counting.. :P

wat i mean is, it will give u the best sensation then the other flyers out there, (see layout)

and im not judging by the water skim only, the fact that most of the ride takes place fying low over the water and a tank filled with mantas is wats hooked me. the skim is an extra feture that B&M is using in alot of their new coasters, which is cool, ill admit. but not the only reason i like it.

SnooSnoo
11-21-2008, 06:34 PM
Tatsu?

http://www.rcdb.com/ig3305.htm?picture=57

Yep.. no flying on that layout.. although that is, and will remain, the best B&M Flyer out there. Yet.. I still find your point still being on water tanks and mantas.. while.. how much of the ride actually has that as a major part of the experience??

http://www.johnnyupsidedown.com/manta/sw292a.jpg

Hmm..

And the fact that the water splashes used on the other B&M's so far really have no value to the ride experience at all isn't helping you either.. even if you think they are 'cool.'

Hmm..

PS: You do know that the coaster won't actually touch the water.. right?

So.. I want another reason, because your piss poor 'water skims are bad ass' reasoning is almost as bad as stapling.

X needed it, Medusa didn't. All Medusa needed was a new paintjob.. a fresher.

Yeah, BUT my only gripe with it is that the 'theme' (if you call it that) doesn't fit in with it's surroundings, though maybe this could be the start of them using the back area (there is a lot of room) for some kind of creepy area in line with the 'Medusa' theme.

SnooSnoo
11-21-2008, 10:08 PM
Well that is just the nature of the park in that area. Medusa was always out of place, since its inception. SF could have done so much more.. but during that time, they were just plopping down rides like a kid in a candy store.

Now, they might be trying to do something.. who knows.

What I think is impressive is both the ride and the appearance of it. It really towers over the park, and in a really dramatic way. The unique supports of the lift/first drop are very striking. Most importantly, it looks like it will be very intense compared to most other hypers because of the height and steepness. Plus, you'll be looking down face down at the midway, so you have an amazing view.

X-Cars do look nice, but I really wish that HRRR would have inversions so I could experience that freedom of movement like on the Sky Wheel. But USF seems more enthralled with coming up with helixes that they can name after music notes. It looks like fun but I can't help seeing past the huge gimmick.

The Monster Plantation refurb at SFoG.

It's my local park, I've ridden MP since I was ten, and she has desperately needed a rebuild. The original ride designer has returned and is in charge of the refurb, all new effects, lighting, sound, animatronics, but the same beloved characters and feel.

I gotta say, after seeing the POV, I think that iSpeed at Mirabilandia should definatly be added into this thread, even though most people here won't get to ride it next year. It's an Intamin Accelerator, and boy does it look good. IMO, this honestly looks better then anything listed up there. A launch and Maverick style turns combined with some good inversions and potentially great airtime.http://it.youtube.com/watch?v=erbAjRVL0Ac

Blue Fire at Europa also looks good too.

I had a thought today.

Could the Monster Plantation re-make be the new Sally Goosebumps ride? It's a long shot, but I can see how they would do it.

^ I don't think so, because Six Flags stated that it was keeping the original theme. :)

I know, but I just got to thinking that maybe they would make a Gossebumps back story to it, while keeping all the original stuff. Yet, Six Flags is not Disney or Universal, so I doubt they could pull it off anyway. Just a thought.

^ Let's hope not! For once, could Six Flags ever have an original concept for a ride's theme? :bulb:

Terminator. Any GCII woody Has my vote. no matter how ridiculous the theme.

I have it on very good authority (the GM of the park, for starters,) that Monster Plantation will not be adding in any licensed property, even if it fit the theme. No Goosebumps, no Scooby Doo. At one point a conversion of the ride to Scooby Doo was considered, but all of their research said that the public reaction would be very bad.

I would love to see a Scooby Doo themed shooter dark ride at SFoG. We really could use more enclosed rides.

I agree with k_peek-- any GCI has my vote as well.

I love Tatsu so watching Manta being built isn't all too exciting. It's a mini Tatsu without the terrain and view with some animals and a "splash down" in my opinion. Of course it's different and I'm sure it will be fun but I agree with Snoo that Tatsu will most likely still be better.

I voted for Terminator, mostly because SFMM needs it really bad. It looks like one of those rides where you walk off of it going "what just happened?" (In a non-Psyclone way of course... if you get what I mean). The layout is original, compact, quick to the point, and I can't wait to ride it. Also, Kentucky Rumbler is just a tad shorter and it's a fantastic ride so I'm sure TS will be great as well... I hope. :X

For those who haven't seen, here's how Medusa looks so far:

My bet is a Lex Luthor theme. I think the paint looks really good. I like that blue. I hope they paint the rails and supports a different color.

^ Agreed, I'm almost positive it is. I'm just surprised that they didn't have a campaign for it like S:ROS.

You might want to resize the photo, though. ;)

It got my vote because it is not Psyclone. On Psyclone you got off saying "What just happened?" as you cradle your bruised and broken arm limping off the ride.

I'm not too impressed with the new Medusa so far, even though I've said that it the rennovation was a perfectly good idea. It looks like its going to be even more out of place after the refurbishment. I mean, a blue coaster in a western area?! When I first heard about the refurbishment, I thought that would also mean making it fit in with its surroundings....

When I was there, there wasn't any significant Western themeing to immerse you in a Western are, anyway. Not a biggie.
