Yes! It is very soon! 17 and a half days from posting this! Gosh! It is most exciting. I have a lot organised, including meals for every night. Allow me to inform you -
22nd - 30th December. Paradise Pier Hotel.
Restaurants - Rainforest Cafe, Naples Ristorante e Pizzeria, Plaza Inn Character Breakfast, Blue Bayou, Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen, PCH Grill Character Breakfast, Napa Rose, Tortilla Joe's, Wine Country Trattoria and House of Blues BB King Buffet.
As you may have seen from the last one, I am going to see BB King at the House of Blues on my last night, along with a Buffet beforehand. I also have booked the Walt In Walt's Footsteps Tour, and the Fantasmic seating thing.
Should be lovely! :)
Anything I should know, you people who have been before?

Things to know:
California Adventure:
- Fastpass soarin' and ToT immediately. They run out quick and the lines last forever if you don't get a pass.
- If you want to ride river rapids in December, Grizzly River Run is awesome but has a massive line. It should be fastpassed.
- Cali Screamin's ride goes by quickly, you could fastpass it but it's not completely neccesary.
- The Bug's Life thing is great, you should see it.
- Stop by the "Mission Tortilla" and "Boudin Bakery" for free food (guess what food it is)
- Try to be in the back of the park when the parades start, it gets congested to the point where you can't move.
Disneyland:
- All the rides that are in WDW and DL are much better here.
- The rides here aren't in the same section as they are in WDW (Pirates is in the "America" section)
- Big Thunder is great here. It is a must for fastpassing.
- Indiana Jones is also a must for fastpassing, unless you like waiting for hours.
- Nemo should be your first fastpass followed by Space Mountain.

If you've been on Soarin' at EPCOT, no need to ride it! It's the same exact ride. That's just the only tip I can really give you, I haven't been to Disneyland.

Should've booked at the Grand Californian.
Indiana Jones always seems to break down frequently when I've gone to Disneyland. So you should go on it at the first opportunity. The Space Mountain at Aneheim is better than Orlando's by a long shot. Nemo is a waste of time, seriously. Don't bother. But make sure you ride the train. I don't want to ruin it for you, but the ride between the tomorrowland station and main street station is crazy. :haha:

^^ What he said was some good advice, but you don't need to worry about some of the fastpasses he mentioned.
ToT doesn't usually have a long wait, but sometimes it can get kind of lengthy.
Soarin always has a long line and the fastpass always go fast.
Grizzly River Run will have no line at this time, it is too cold, but it a fun ride.
Mullhulland Madness usually has a medium wait, you can do singler rider or get a fastpass, but it isn't really worth the wait. Just a Basic wild mouse.
Other than that in DCA you should be good. Toy Story Mania only had about a 30 minute wait when I went a month after it opened, so I don't imagine it to be to bad.
As for Disneyland, you'll need fastpass for Space Mountain and Indiana Jones for sure.
Thunder Mountain doesn't usually have more than a 25 minute wait.
If you want to ride the Haunted Mansion Holiday, you will need fastpass. That line always exceeds and hour.
You have to ride the Matterhorn both sides, but the Tomorrowland side is alot better, imo.
Other than that have a great trip! Disneyland is amazing around Christmas with the lights and all. I hope you have a great trip!

I know! I knew that there were often some famous acts on at the HOB, so I took advantage of being in California.
Things to know:
<snip>
Thankyou! I'll keep it all in mind, especially the free food.. good times.
If you've been on Soarin' at EPCOT, no need to ride it! It's the same exact ride. That's just the only tip I can really give you, I haven't been to Disneyland.
That makes no sense Sir! I have been on Soarin' at Epcot, which is why I know that I must ride it at DCA as many times as I can! :)
Should've booked at the Grand Californian.
Of course, if money is no object. I'd rather have the Paradise Pier and go for a few more days! :)
Nemo is a waste of time, seriously. Don't bother.
For a start, there's no sense in telling me not to do anything. I'm not travelling 6000 miles to not ride something, especially since everyone seems to love it except you! Weirdo.. :p
<snip>
Danke. :)
Well, thanks for the advice etc. I'll make a few things clear, I'm making sure I ride everything. That way I can't regret missing something out. I first went to WDW in 2002, I had that one chance to ride Alien Encounter, and I didn't. The next time I went was in 2004, and it was becoming Stitch. I shan't let that sort of thing happen again!
Boston
12-04-2008, 07:20 PM
As long as you ride the train I don't care what you do or don't do, really. :o (I was stuck on Nemo for more than an hour so I think that probably biased my opinion)
By the way, your signature stretches my screen.
HumanWreckage
12-04-2008, 07:21 PM
You are going for 8 days, I'm pretty sure you can do everything. DCA takes only about a day to do everything, maybe half. Nemo is very clausterphobic. I hate that ride, but it was kind of cool.
And yes, like Boston said. Take a train ride around the park. Great way to end the day. Haha.
The_Mad_Hadder

neither nemo nor Matterhorne have fastpasses.
Go on Matterhorne and Indiana Jones deffinitly since they are only at Disneyland. Also, the Splash Mountain at Disneyland is much better then the one at disney world

Actually, If you're one of the first on hand for DCA's opening, you'll be on the ride faster than with fastpasses. This strategy has worked 15 times flawlessly for me!
Also, If you hit the rapids at night, the line will be nonexistant, thus lightening the crowds, thus decreasing the wetness each time the boat hits the water. And GRR is just so damn beautiful at night! :D
BTW, Feel Lucky Cyber. I was gonna go this weekend, but I got cancled on...:(:(:(

Since you will be there for quite a long time, you may want to keep in mind that Knott's Berry Farm is only about 3 miles away. It looks like your food plans are pretty well set, but I must say that I absolutely adore Mrs. Knott's chicken. I'm normally not a huge fan of fried chicken, but I think Mrs. Knott's chicken is scrumptious.
If you should manage to go to Knott's, be sure to catch the show at Mystery Lodge. It's one of my favorite amusement park shows.
But, if you choose to stick strictly to Disney, I'm sure you'll have a great time! I agree with you that it is best to do everything, rather than looking for things to avoid.
Have fun!

Many thanks all. :) I certainly do plan to do everything, and also expect many things to be better in DLR too (I.e. Space Mountain in DL better than in MK, but not as good as DLP. I expect. :) )
And yes, I will ride the train, many times.
I was planning to go to Knott's to start with Harpo, but as time went on, we found that it'd probably just be easier to stick to Disneyland. As it might be the only time I go ever, and I'm quite a big DisneyParkFan, try to savour all the time I have! :)

- Nemo should be your first fastpass followed by Space Mountain.
Nemo doesn't use fastpass, and neither does Toy Story Midway Mania.
Westcot
12-05-2008, 05:07 PM
^ True, but Midway Mania does have a single-rider line. Those can always save time. :)
I've never been to Disneyland actually, but I hope to some day. From what I've heard from everyone, it seems all the attractions are better there... but we've still got a bigger castle! :p
Have an awesome trip, Cyberleader! Be sure to post a trip report!
Things to know:
- Big Thunder is great here. It is a must for fastpassing.
- Indiana Jones is also a must for fastpassing, unless you like waiting for hours.
- Nemo should be your first fastpass followed by Space Mountain.
Thunder Mountain is NOT a must for fastpassing. As mentioned, the line rarely exceeds half an hour.
Indiana Jones will be EXTREMELY crowded. I don't know if it's during the holidays, but during high peak they sometimes extend the line into the area above the Jungle Cruise entrance building.
And considering Nemo-- I thought it doesn't have fastpass?
I agree with everyone else that Matterhorn's Tomorrowland side is better.
The Paradise Pier hotel is really nice. Although it isn't the most expensive or most luxurious per say, it is affordable and has great access to the parks. The view is also spectacular. :) I don't know if they took it out because of the new wing at the grand californian, but they used to have a secret entrance point close by to the Pier hotel only available to guests at the hotel.
I've never been to Disneyland actually, but I hope to some day. From what I've heard from everyone, it seems all the attractions are better there... but we've still got a bigger castle!
I think WDW's Magic Kingdom has nothing compared to the original-- the rides are better when compared to each others. Although your castle is a lot bigger and more of a "Wow" when you see it. :)

Yep and when I went to DLR by myself I didnt find that out until boarding. I was sooo bummed, (however I did get to ride with a major hottie!!!!!!) So it was fine :p
^ When I went on it with 2 friends I was the singled out rider and I got to sit next to a 70 year old lady... She kept talking through the whole ride but she was nice. :) .... wouldn't say hot though....

Start off getting a Fastpass for Splash Mountain, then head right to Space Mountain without Fastpass. Then, you head back to the east side of the park. Big Thunder should be fastpassed. Matterhorn is also a must.
HumanWreckage
12-06-2008, 01:16 AM
^I'm sorry, but I have to disagree. You should get Space Mountain fastpass. The line is always 45+ I have rarely seen it shorter than that. Splash shouldn't have much of a line in the winter, you might need fastpass, but it depends. By sundown the line drasticly drops, and a couple hours before closing it is a walk on.
A little tip I've learned is that Indian Jones has the shortest stand-by lines around 5 p.m. It hasn't always worked for me, but a couple times I got about a 10 minute wait.
As Harpo said, you should try and go to Knott's. It is an amazing park and I believe it is literally down the road from Disneyland. I think you just take Ball st., or something. I'd suggest you to take one day off and go. As much as I love Disney, Knott's is worth it.
disneyland123
12-06-2008, 01:31 AM
^Not in the morning. I've been to DLR twice and rode SM in the morning with 15 minute lines only.
^ Agreed. I actually think you should get a fastpass to Indiana Jones and then run over to Space Mountain

Couple of things...
I've heard that the single rider line was removed from Toy Story Mania. (The dang thing only seats 4 per car, how hard is it to fill it up?) Can someone confirm it's still there?
Also, several attractions may be down for rehabs. Check the website before you go.
For those of us who want to hit Disneyland soon, I'd like some advice. My wife and I are hoping to go to DLR for our honeymoon. I can't give you a date, since I've got no clue when we can afford it. However, we are hoping to hit KBF while we're there.
So, my question is this... how many days are required to hit everything at both parks? Like Cyber, we'll ride everything, regardless of how big or small it is. Realize that this will be a honeymoon, with all that entails, but since we won't be back for a long, long time, we want to hit everything, and take our time leisurely. (We won't be traveling 6000 miles, just 3000.)
Any advice?

^^ It truely all depends on what time you go. If its over the summer it takes about a day a park, but add a third just in case. If it's when most of the kids are still in school you can get DCA done in half a day(There isn't much to that park) and Disneyland in a day and a half. If you want to see all the shows and what they have to offer, you might need a day or two more just because of how all the shows play around the same time and there are only about five showings in day. My family used to go for 5 days over the summer when I was younger and we ran out of things to do during the last day or two.
Knott's takes about a day, I think. I hope that helps.
If your going to literally ride every ride I would give yourself two or three days at Disneyland alone.. That way you don't have to stress yourself out and you can re-ride rides you enjoy. You can also go to downtown disney or do something else during the night.
California Adventure should only take a day, as well as Knotts.
Of course it really does depend on when you go. Crowds could slow you down severely.
disneyland123
12-07-2008, 03:12 AM
DO NOT fastpass Cali Screamin'. It's a waste of time. The line is usually only 20 minutes long, you could be riding ToT in no time. However, you might want to Fastpass or Single Rider Mulholland Madness (i think). The lines are usually pretty unreasonable.
^ Doesn't Soarin' usually have a longer line than Madness? At least it's been that way in my past experiences. Mulholland's line never really gets longer than half an hour... Although I have seen it at 40 minutes before-- probably a few years ago.
I would go with getting a fastpass for Soarin'. Of course, that is only if you've never been on it (or at the one at Epcot).

^Well, I've always hated Soarin' and the three times I rode it I used Fastpass, so I'm not sure.

Well I really hope that your trip will be great at the Disneyland Resort.
Since you are going during a absolutely massive peak day there are some really not as well known tips you need to follow.
-I won't tell you what to Fast Pass but when you do get a fast pass make sure you check the bottom of your ticket which tells you when you can get your next fast pass.
-I will guarantee you that nearly every ride you go on will have very large wait times of at least 45 minutes. My recommendations is plan out your key attractions and do those very early or very late to achieve the shortest lines.
-Do not skip any of the smaller walk through attractions or less important rides. You are there for a whole week, you have plenty, and I mean plenty of time
-See all the live shows, parades, ect., early in your trip that way the rest of the week you can either go see the entertainment attraction again or go and ride a major attraction as the line gets shorter.
-Matterhorn, Nemo, Peter Pan, Small World, and some other classic dark rides do not have fast passes available. My recommendation is for the not so thrilling attractions (basically all the above excluding Matterhorn) ride them late in the day. Kids will be gone, so the lines will be shorter. Also Matterhorn's line moves fairly quickly.
-Toy Story Mania is still new so it will have a tendeancy to return to its opening time crowds. These lines will exceed to Aieral Cafe across the pier. Head towards the ride as soon as the park opens in front of the entry plaza, their might be a sign that says Toy Story Mania Line This Way pointing to the golden state area. Don't listen to it, all it is a more congested way to get to the ride. Skip the first temporary entrance and head directly for the main entrance, lines shouldn't be so long that the main queue is already full.
-Small World has a very well done Christmas show that takes place every 15 minutes after 5 p.m. No need to ride Small World at night since the attraction is the same expierence in the day, so stop by the ride at night for an epic expierence like no other.
Have fun on your trip and I hope you enjoy your Disney expierence.
^ In my experiences Matterhorn's line never really shortens until just before the park closes, as do most rides, but I agree that the ride experience is so much better at night.
Also, I prefer Splash Mountain in the dark, party because we used to go to that little food stall with the hot cocoa (it's closed now).
As I said before, Indiana Jones is the ride I recommend you fastpass or ride first in the morning. It's such a great ride and definitely one of the most popular rides in the park.

Enjoy your trip, Cyber. While I agree that most of the mutual rides are better at Disneyland, I have to say that I like the Space Mountain at Magic Kingdom better.
...Oh and Florida has the better TOT.:p
^ Agreed. Of course WDW is better as a whole-- I just think the original Magic Kingdom beats the one in Florida.

Yea, but that can be to Florida's advantage. Once you're on property, you don't have to leave property until your trip is over. If you want something, you can find it somewhere in the resort. Basically, if you really want to forget that the outside world exists while on a theme park trip, WDW is the place to go. Heck, it's even a no-fly zone... no planes overhead!

Got on loads of rides on the West side of DL, most of them in fact, with virtually no queue this morning! A few queues for Fantasyland and Tomorrowland in the afternoon, going to Naples Restaurant and then DCA later.
I can hear the Paradise Pier music from my room, it is very weird. I was serenaded to sleep last night by the Electrical Parade music. Most marvellous!
Also great to have free Wi-Fi here in the hotel, very nice indeed. Unless there's something I don't know!

Wanted to, but the queue was literally all around the mountain, but there's plenty of time yet!
Going to Minnie&Friends Character Breakfast at Plaza Inn and then Blue Bayou later tomorrow. Lovely!
This is turning into a running TR! :)
You'll like Blue Bayou. Lovely atmosphere. :)
A suggestion on Matterhorn-- the line is long pretty much the whole day but it slows down during the parade and right before the park closes. Luckily if the line goes all the way around the mountain its only about half an hour. Make sure you ride the left ride if you can only choose one. :)

Well, we have limited spacem but we make great use of it, for example, our SM is smaller, and only has one track, yet we have a longer, better ride, and we have the same ride capacity. We also do a very good job by entertwining rides(Matterhorn and Sky Way, People Mover and all of Tomorrowland, DRR and Splash, Pirates and Blue Bayou and Club 33).

I got stuck with a nerd my first time solo, but man, he was addicted to the ride and the awesome part is, he told me everything I know. It makes me laugh when my parents or cousins are sitting at the next screen and wondering how I got the huge robot or tank to pop out.
What is there to hate about Soarin'? C'est marvellous!
My house is literally next to the famous orange grove on that ride, and I have picture proof!
Well being the man here who goes the most and possibly knows the place best, and since I'm going on the thirtieth, I would like to meet you, on second thought, didn't we already agree to try a year ago when you first announced this trip? I just hope you're not already packing by that time and that I can get away from my family for a couple of seconds to at least meet face to face(long-lost relatives are coming down, so I can't leave them for long).
P.S. I hope you've realized that Space Mountain isn't open in the early mornings anymore, at least since I checked.

And I hope you like your Monte Cristo Cyber, I took my friends there on a school trip in June, they still thank me for introducing them to it. BTW, the Cafe Orleans menu is the same as Blue Bayou, so don't bother going to both.

Yeah, but Walt never lived in that apartment, even today, almost nobody is allowed in his other apartment above the Main Street Firstation. Went to Rainforest on the first night, it's nothing new to me though, I've been to the one in Paris, and both the ones in WDW.
So far.. It's a toughie. Among my faves is Indy Adventure, Midway Mania, Cali Screamin', Napa Rose, A Walk in Walt's Footsteps Tour, the part of that where we went into Club 33...
To be honest though, the overall experience is the best. :)
Sounds like your having a blast! Do you so far prefer the rides here to the MK in WDW?
Indy is my favorite as well. :) (That along with Matterhorn and Haunted Mansion).

Well, I went yesterday anyway, but holy cow Cyber, you picked probably the exact worst time to be at the park I have ever seen! I've never seen crowds that huge in my life there!(except when they reopened the subs, but that was pretty localized) When we pulled in to park in the parking structure, they handed us pamphlets on how the park is extra crowded today and how to beat the crowds. I never would've thought it would be so crazy after Christmas.
That being said, I've never seen the rides move so efficiently before, there were a couple hiccups(BTW, to everyone else, getting backed up on Indy sucks when the station isn't releasing cars fast enough or people are taking way too much time to find their seats. There was a line of cars stretching from the station all the way into the room with the mummies shooting arrows at you, and when we went into the boulder room, they were still resetting the thing when we went under the boulder! Plus it sucked when the ride would start back up, the hydraulics would kick in, then immediately cut out every time we moved up in line.)
Still, I hope you had a fun trip Cyber! I know I had fun since we had a handicapped person with us!:p
^ It's always been crowded near New-Years. Of course because there are more people living in OC than last year, there will be more people at Disney.
Haha, your lucky about the handicapped person in your party. I was in a wheelchair from a reconstructive foot surgery five years ago and we went to Disney on New Years Eve and skipped almost all of the lines. :)
