I really wanted to like it, but the terrible control scheme killed it. You can't even reconfigure the controls. That should have told me what kind of game it was.
I've owned the game for only a week and already it's uninstalled and packed away. I can't count the number of times I've died cause i can't get my character to run away. I'll click 30 yards away and my character wont leave, they'll stay and fight and die. Then there's the map, the interface, and it all sucks.
In all my years of gaming, I don't think I've ever run into a game this hard to control or uninspired, and I've been gaming since green screen apples were all the rage. I don't mind pick and click as long as you've a key backup. I've beaten both the diablos and sacred, and they were nothing like this. I have to say I am really sorry i wasted my time on this "game". Oh well on to Fallout 3.
One last thing. Just scanning through the forum, and well, it seems most of the threads are game problems, tech problems. That says something to me as well.

Sorry you did not like the game. Your comment about the controls is well taken. I had problems getting used to them, and the camera.

Many things you criticize, wallydog, have been greatly improved in "Earth Awakening" (except for the map - what's wrong with it?) ...

Btw, I'm a master of "running away" in SF - because I know how to handle my +100%-speed-equipment! :p:heart::noob::)

Most maps turn with you. The fact that all you have is an itty bitty little pointer on the map kinda makes it tough to find your way around, granted if I had put more time into the game I might have gotten used to it. Also, if I died, then died again trying to get back to the area, I could never find my other stuff(the first death) again. Just didn't like it. I like the maps that turn with you, that way you can easily plot your way to where ever you need to go.
As far as running away, on anyother game I'm great at it. This game I nearly broke my computer desk it PO me so bad. Same goes for just trying to move. My pointer, even though it's not near anyone, seems to always lead my character to an npc and it's alot tougher than it should be just to get around them. It's just a baddly done up movement setup. I've played other games that use the point click system, but also allow you to use the arrow keys as well for fine tuned moving. Worked well.
If they ever make a patch or mod that allows for this, I might give it another try. As far as "Earth Awakening", I'm not keen on starting with a 45 lvl character when I'm not even used to the game.
Like i said, I'm getting Fallout 3 for christmas so I only have 13 days to wait for it.
This game just seems like a "You're going to die 50 thousand times so get used to it game". I prefere a game that I don't die everyother step I take. Oh well can't win them all.

Hm, can't you use keys for movement in "Silverfall" (I don't remember since I don't play SF very often)? But you can definitely use the arrow keys for movement in "Earth Awakening". They have also lowered the difficulty in EA by 20% (or 25%; I'm too lazy to look it up right now) for the first 10 character levels which makes the game-start easier (btw, this can be modified in SF, too - if you had asked ... ;) ). Funny thing is, wallydog, that almost all of the problems you mentioned have been addressed in EA. The minimap? YES, it's been a disaster in SF and if there's only one reason for buying EA (only one!) then it's the improved minimap, hehe. Btw, there's no need to start at level 45 when both games are installed (you can start at level 1 and all of EA's improvements are valid for SF, too).

I recommend downloading the German or French demo of "Earth Awakening". Even if you don't understand what they're saying, you could check whether you like the game's new minimap and controls or not. Personally, I think that EA's controls (camera system, interface etc.) are the best in the genre¹ - and HELL, I certainly don't want Diablo's static camera back ... :D

PS: As for Silverfall, if you don't get into the game, get Morka! It's "loser-tactics" ( ;) ), but if you do this companion-quest first and tell her to heal you she will keep you alive! In addition, if you still die a lot, do Lilitip's quest right afterwards! When this quest is finished he will offer you an assurance (next time you die there's no need to search for your tombstone anymore, you - together with all of your belongings - are simply teleported into the next village; you don't even lose EXP points like in Diablo).

¹) except for one aspect: you still cannot have more than 3+5 active skills/spells (which simply isn't enough, imho, especially when playing magicians).

I consider it a valid complaint that you have to pay $40 to get a workable game. Silverfall by itself has a number of potential 'breakers' for gamers who try it. The problem is that if you try to run, you can trigger even more monsters if you're not watching where you're going. For low level characters, getting Morka as Brewmaster recommended will help you to live longer. If I go thru SF and EA a second time, I'll be trying it on the medium difficulty.
