View Full Version : [WIP] Space Mountain X--> Unlike any other Space Mountain!

Hey everyone. With inspiration from WDITrent's Space Mountain Millenium, I have decided to make Space Mountain X. It will be a full Space Mountain ride with strobe tunnels, a cannon, a station, custom SOBAT, and more. I will also release the resulting CS from this project.

What makes me laugh is that there are only 4 or 5 space mountain rides in the whole world, yet I have lost count of how many I have seen on this forum :haha:

First of all, welcome to the forums. Always inspired by hopeful newcommers to see what potential they have for new CS.
Though you have an interesting idea, you really shouldn't start a thread like this without posting SOME kind of pics. I know you're just in the planning stages, but even concept drawings would be helpful to give the community a better idea of your vision.

This is no pun intended on anyone, but everybody whines and moans about "oh well theres only like 10 space mountian sets" or well thats the same as someone elses.. BUT Ive only been on here a few weeks and Im tired of it..Get over it, and let people do what they are going to do, Just because they make the same set, dosent mean its the same, we all use different styles,textures. Let people be creative without shooting them down befor its thought of. Other wise we wouldnt have half the CS we have, and its all good..And don't get me started on the "Quality Control" BS...
Btw..Hope you make the Space Mountian..

one thing, i just saw you post the pics, you need to resize them, to keep horozontial scrolling out.. when you posted the url of the pic, where it says you need to put "shot" inplace of IMG

Actually, it can be like no other... because it has it's own CS. It's not going to have a track-layout based on other SM's... the only thing that makes it "Space Mountain" is the name. Sure, small things like the cannon and the concept of going into space are copied, but all else is unique.

Hmm.. The dome is about 2600 faces. It's alteadybeen exported into rct3 and itruns without lag, also the coloring is what setsit apart from other space mountains. Unlike the others (except Paris) it will have some touches of gray

Thats a good deal of faces, I think my 9600 gso can handle it though!
So you mentioned something about a cannon, and your dome looks like a dome from Disneyland or Disneyworld. Where is this cannon going?

Shape the land, put in lots of rides (half of all generic thrill rides and gentile rides should do) and build a couple of coasters, maybe a water ride or two. Get at least 700 peeps running around, then add lots of trees (of many types, not just one or two) and other scenery: walls, lamps, benches... etc. Use different textures on the ground, make lakes and add water rides (be sure you open all your rides, too). Then add janitors and handimen and entertainers. Add shops, restrooms, atms, vista points, and if you really want to do an actual test, add a pool or two. Now check for lag... Simply importing into an empty park means little...

Building a fantastic set of scenery wont do many any good unless it is optimized for a wide variety of players out there. Don't be lazy, start using multiple-model OVLs with optimized LODs...

Even though it's 'unlike' any other Space Mountain, I can already see how it looks like every other Space Mountain I've seen. Same dome shape, same top hat, same ridges across the dome, same spikes in random places, same color, etc. I think the word you are looking for is "unique" not unlike ;)
As for faces.......wow! What you could do is break the top hat off of the mid part of the dome so that it isn't just one giant monster of lag. I do see you have two faces in places where it should only have one face all over the dome. Such as the tops of those ridges.

I'll shrink the pic later. The face count is about 2600..it's high but I think the average computer can handle it. If it can't I'll make two sets or something, one for lowe-end CPU's and one for high-end.

No, the cs is several different pieces like gadget's. For the sake of making the pieces to scale and fitting into each other I place them all in one file, multiple backups of course.

scaremenga your buildings looks good though there is 100's of faces that could be removed without damaging the model at all. like in your space mountain dome i see alot of faces wich are not nessesary :)
btw. resize the image :)

You can add the lower detail models into one OVL, setting each one to a higher draw distance (LOD in the create OVL window)and RCT3 will replace the high detail model with the successive lower ones as the player moves away, saving valuable resourses for closer objects (even on high end computers). It will also allow RCt3 to start with the correct detail level based on the player's game settings. You won't have to make multiple releases of the same set with explanations about which one is for what computers. A much better way to make CS for the community....

Those black lines on the dome are not faces... They're just the texture that I used. The face count on the dome is more like 26... Sorry I should have explained in that post. :bulb:

Sorry if this sounds rude. But I know what I am doing. The texture I made has those black lines. I'll post the texture later today to prove my point.

Thick black lines are lines that are NOT connected to a edge or endpoint.

I've heard the music of the space mountain X which you have it to download at your site and I liked better the anaheim music, I just wish for you to change the music to anaheim (and add those sound effects like the music you edited for the ride) because I don't like the earth to the moon music (If you can or want, either way).

It's been awhile since I last updated! I've been drawing out the CS plans for this ride, and they look great! I've managed to begin modeling the exterior parts of Space Mountain X.
Here are some pictures of the Outer Tunnels, these will have varying animated textures within, and are "similar" to those on Space Mountain Paris.

Not that ^ tunnel, that's just going to be the black tunnel..like in Space Mountain Paris, however after entering that ^ tunnel, riders will drop down into animated tunnels similar to the 1977 and 2005 versions of Space Mountain Anaheim :D
