View Full Version : [WIP] Door Set

I'm working on a set off doors, just plain ordinary doors, thats all. Some will have the diag. feature, some will be open/closed, but still just doors. I'm making this set b\c there are no doors seperate, just 1 or 2 in a complete CS set. Here is my progress:

2 Doors in-game, closed. Same texture on other sides.

so, how am i doing? Please remember, this is the second CS set I have ever attempted.

Very nice, I really love the second doors in the first pic. They look amazing. Keep up the great work. (open doors would look cool too!)

^cant help ya there! I personally would use all doors open, and all closed.

If your getting the no svd for sid error then I have to say that's kinda sad. But I can fix it up for ya. Inside your cs folder in the themed directory you should see another folder with the same name. Move this folder out into your themed folder and delete the other one. Hope that makes sense.

Very professional looking, and you've done it using texture maps rather than trying to model the detail so they'll be no complaints from about high polys.

open your theme in the importer and then click the File Menu > Detect Problems.

When making a theme, the no sid for svd error means that you renamed a text string, icon name, or have an OVL already in the game's theme folder that you removed from the thene (the importer will not remove OVLs from an installed theme- you should allways delete the installed theme folder when you rename or remove any model, text name or icon name...)

did that, but i know what the problem is anyway, i just was too tired to fix it yesterday. Thanks for all the THOUSANDS of replies, more than i expected :eek: Not all the doors look good open, so i'm only doing some open, and some closed. NO DOORS ARE ANIMATED! that takes too much time and effort (for me). AFAIK, also add some sort of lag of some kind. All doors are 12 faces, except the open one, which are 36-24 faces. Forgot pollys. Should cause NO LAG. Un fortunately I have to completely re-do the installation b\c my theme file was currupted, but I saved all my 3D objects, so I don't have to re-do them :) Get back to this soon :)

It means you've done what most people don't ever do. A lot of people have a line separating two adjacent faces with textures on both sides. You see if a lot of people where to make a model like this they would make a line between the adjacent faces and put textures on both sides. You combined the textures into one face.

EDIT: If you made a line there you would have added about 4-6 lines and 4-8 faces.

errr, I did what?

It is a compliment: too often people model the detail by making extra faces instead of using detailed textures- using many more polygons than needed. I agree :D more folks need to realise that you can get detail with a good Texture, especially when it is Mapped correctly to the model (hence the term "texture map")

So as in just pieces of wood or like half a door or what?

those are just 2 pieces of wood, that you can place ON a door to make it look closed, or just boarded up for whatever reason.

You cold also make the crosses on the same surface to safe polys, but I'm sure you already know that.

It's not even been released.


Looks nice so far, for the blocker try a slightly offset plain and make it from an alpha texture :)

actually, I released a Beta vs, of just 7 doors. 2 open, 5 closed. If I do the door blocker thing, I'm going to start from scratch, so i'll do that last. Don't have much time, not untill week end. I have been editing some more models, but nothing worth posting here yet. I will release a 2nd beta, then, if I don't add anything else, and no errors occur, I will release it completely. Do you think this set was a good idea?

Thanks for the replies, but I got tied up with my Command and Conquer modding, and I will have to finish this l8r. I did release a beta, so you can download some of my working doors...
