I can't think of anything else to do.

I turned off virus prot, firewall, uac. I right cliked setup executable and checked XP SP2 compat mode, and run in admin mode.

But after doing all that, when I try to install, I see some of the folder creation and file copying failing in the message box, and the whole thing crawls. Like half an hour to move the install bar a couple of milimeters.

Rig is plenty powerful enough.

One other thing, fairly early on in the install procedure, a registration window pops up with a failed ActiveX load across where a banner should go. Don't know if this is causing problems or not.

Dang I'd love it if someone could help. I googled and did everything folks said, don't know why it's not working. Only hw incompat I can think of is a very new SATA driver from Intel. Can't imagine that would cause install failures or slowdowns though.

Try copying all the stuff from the DVD to a temporary folder on your hard drive, then remove the DVD from the SATA-drive and start the HDD installation.

Don't worry, this is absolutely "normal".

Turns out the problem wasn't Silverfall, but my impatience. I went out to dinner, when I got back, it was done.

I wonder if it speeds up doing the copy method you mentioned. Slowest install ever!!

Btw I read one of your archived posts, for Silverfall and EA, I:

1. install Silverfall, do not patch
2. install EA, this updates SF to 1.5
3. ?

Do I just launch EA at that point (like how TQ/IM and D2/LoD work)? Or still use the Silverfall executable?

I usually clean the house when I have to reinstall SF, hehe.

Installation is faster, but overall you don't save much time (if at all) since you have to copy the content of the DVD first. What is more important is that it has helped a few people circumvent probs with their SATA(?) drives.

Yep, install SF, install EA, and you're done. Btw, there's only one "silverfall.exe" so you can't do anything wrong (if you have two Silverfall icons/program links on your desktop (Goblin/VonSkromel) one of them vanishes after a reboot).

Brew, I just want to say that it's great you check this board and help out the news.

The Atari folks here ought to send you a shirt and a free game or something.

Thx for the kind words. It's always a pleasure to help people who put all relevant information into their first article. :)
