The search is hopelessly broken on this site for me so I can't find any references to this specific issue.

My question is whether the D2D version of the expansion pack will work with the original version on CD? I have the original (from CD) installed and I'd like to get AE installed so I can take advantage of the extras preferably without having multiple copies installed. D2D says you should check either the Product Info page (useless) or with the publisher.

I'm aware that the Steam version of the AE will work if you copy the files over but I have a problem with having to start an online client tool just to play a local game so Steam is not an option here.

I also can't find AE available in retail anywhere (Frys, BB, CC, Gamestop, etc). I found an International version at GoGamer.com but they are out of stock. I found a supposed retail copy somewhere else online but they wanted $35 for it.

I had slight difficulties getting EA to see the Silverfall install. I had to copy the Silverfall stuff into a directory where the D2D stuff(in this case, a Steam download) was. For example, D:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common is where both Silverfall and EA have to be for my installation to recognize both games. You may need to do something similar with your D2D download.

You could try to be patient and look over Ebay auctions. There have been a few instances where I saw EA going cheap. You'll probably have better luck getting a cheaper copy of EA thru Ebay than any other resource.

D2D installs just like a CD, example = C:\Program Files\Monte Cristo\Silverfall

So an unpatched install of Silverfall should be fine for AE to install over.

(I have the D2D version of both games)

If your interested in what AE gameplay looks like I made a small vid for kicks of my hand weapon toon in Very Hard mode.

My SF is patched to 1.17. I'm hoping that I can get the D2D version and install it and SF and AE will run correctly.

I'm not fond of either Steam or D2D but at least D2D doesn't require an INet connection to play every single time.

I've looked at EBay but everybody is wanting at least $22 + $14 or more for shipping and the game isn't worth that much. Thanks.

You may want to reinstall SF so its unpatched, I know that people that had SF 1.17 and installed the AE in CD form couldn't get it to work.

If not, you'll have to do the file moving thing.

Ok thanks for the information. I guess I'll go ahead and download it then.

For anyone else that decides to go this approach I thought I'd post my results.

SF retail DVD + 1.17 patch + SFAE D2D = works but there were missing resources such that menu items said "Empty text"

SF retail DVD + SFAE D2D = seems to be working correctly.

The D2D version detects the original and installs to the same location so you don't have to do any file moving. Overall pretty painless.

That's nice to hear that a D2D install is smarter than Steam's is. Let us know how you enjoy the games, and feel free to look over my walkthru if you get stuck on EA.
