Constant crash in Riddick.

I got to the part where you are about to walk into the mainframe in EFBB. The loading screen pops up and just stops. I let it sit for well over an hour just to make sure it was a crash and not just slow loading but no luck. Anyone found a solution to this yet? I would love to finish the game and not feel like I wasted 50 bucks.

go hit the card reader afterwards ,

Guess, I will go to try Athena to see if I can get through that game.

I dont play games that much and NONE crash that I have. Yet I go out and buy LOl I like Atari (1040st) so I buy the game. I cant play more than 10-15 it crashes. My son on his same thing. I put in a ATI crash 10-15.

And it seems they care more about there pocket then fixing this.

Oh two WAY different systems. AMD 790pg with NV 280 Vist64. Other Asus x48 q6600 3870x2 Vista 32.

Makes you wonder if its the PROTECTION that is doing this. In a few days I will be able to find out.

Hey all,

I just bought this game the other day and I am experiencing the same thing. As soon as I enter the hallway to the mainframe, the load bar pops up and fills to about 3/4 full and then I get the crash report box asking me if I want to create a crash report. I have uninstalled the game and reinstalled it, and it didn't seem to fix the problem, so I have no idea what is causing the issue.

I fixed the problem by buying a new video card, I upgraded to the Radeon HD 4670 and it runs perfect on max settings., wierd o.O

I have the exact same issue at the exact same spot. I have the latest drivers and my system far exceeds the recommended specs as well. I am on Vista 64, however the rest of the game runs properly. Patched to 1.01 too.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No I actually won the thing at my college. Great machine, this is the first time I've ever had any kind of issue with it.

Only thing I could think of was that it had something to do with Vista 64, apparently that's not the issue...so I'm stumped.

Thanks for that, but for me it still crashes about 75% of the way through the load bar just as if I had tried walking into the level normally.

I uninstalled the game and tried it without patch 1.01 as well, still crashed.

have you tried the 185.81 drivers? that might not help since some ATI users are also getting the issue but it never hurts to try.

Well, I can pass the loading screen with 8.12+map pa1_mainframe, but it still crash after 5 minutes or so :(

hi folks! it seems that the game has numerous flaws to be patched but even on similarly configured pcs, different types of problems may show up. For example, my specs are almost the same as bluesixx's (same GPU,hdd,OS) but I face no crash at the mainframe. But I experience a different problem in which I can not see the characters (including Riddick) and some stretching lines instead of them. During the cutscenes only the eyeballs of the characters are visible. I do not know how to solve but it drives me crazy!!!

My drivers were a bit outdated as well it turns out, tried the latest ones and bam, got into the mainframe no problem, and no issues since.

Weird error though, there isn't anything special about the mainframe level that I can tell. Oh well, thanks for all the advice and tips guys.

I use a Toshiba A300 satellite laptop with ATI radeon mobility HD3650 video card, I had the problem at mainframe, since I couldn't solve it, I skippet that chapter and went on, but I encountered the same problem at recreation area in tower 17 later in the game, and I am overflowing with rage.

I checked for updates in device manager in windows, by the way I use vista 32bit, and it said that all my display drivers were up to date and no update was found. How can I get this catalyst 9.5 beta update, can you help me? For I do not know all too well about computers. What kind is your laptop? Do these updates differ between laptop brands?

That's a problem for many users (e.g. for people with Radeon GCs from the 1000-series). And since those levels are pretty important for BB's gameplay it seems that the game is simply unplayable atm if your gc is affected by the problem (and if you cannot repair it with newer drivers etc.).

Post a dxdiag.txt so we can tell you whether your drivers are up-to-date. :)

That driver is still highly unofficial (beta) and if you don't know how to install it my recommendation is to wait for ATI's official release. If you don't want to wait go to google.com and search for a reliable dl location.

Sure. Kazan12 has a totally different gc compared to yours. GC drivers differ from model to model, from laptop to laptop etc. - and even if you compare GC-123 (desktop ed.) with GC-123 (mobility ed.) there can be differences, too, between the two graphic cards. Imho laptop users should always test at least two drivers: the latest (but usually older) gc driver made by their laptop manufacturer (e.g. -> support section for your laptop model on Toshiba website) and the latest drivers from the gc hardware manufacturer (e.g. -> driver download section on ATI/AMD website).

One more question: I checked ATI's site for updates, my card is named ATI mobility Radeon HD 3650, but on the site I can't find this model under "mobility"; instead the closest is listed under "radeon" HD3600 series, is this the right way to go?

hey emreocer, I have the same laptop as you. Go ahead and download it. It is the right one.
And I wonder if you have any problems in seeing the characters. I can't see any of them ( during cinematics and game both ).
If your catalyst version is not older than 9.4, I advise you to wait until friday because the official version of catalyst 9.5 is rumoured to be released on friday. I am currently using the beta version but no change for me. Last but not least, I face no crash at the mainframe.
By the way, looking at your username, I guess you are from Turkey (like me). Hope it helps...

[I checked ATI's driver page and as far as I can see 3650 mobility GCs are not officially supported by Radeon desktop driver version 9.4 ... maybe this driver can be modded into a mobility version (but I do not have exp. with that]

Thx for the info. Just to be sure, emreocer: which driver version do you mean with "latest ATI update"? If you tried to install 9.4 or 9.5 that didn't work according to your dxdiag.txt. It's no surprise though, because these drivers do not support the Mobility Radeon 3650 (i.e. it just looks like you can install the driver but actually you can't).

So, my first suggestion is to go to Toshiba's website and dl the latest gc driver for your notebook. I have seen that the A300 series has newer drivers for Mobility Radeon 3650 versions (October 2008; except for one model).

If that doesn't work you might want to try out this mod tool:

From what I read in the web it has helped a lot of people getting new games to run on their notebooks, but note that it's an "unofficial" method (I did not test it myself, too, so I cannot assist you with / recommend the tool). There's a detailed FAQ on their website, but please try not to destroy your notebook, ok?! ;)

Last but not least, the problem you described is a common one for Radeon X1000-series GCs, but we have not seen it on 3650 mobility GCs. However, there's a small chance that all these driver acrobatics do not lead to success (at least without an official patch). Anyway, I wish you good luck and don't hesitate to report back to us. :)

actually since I do not know how to use the mod tool all too well, I wont use it to spare my laptop from any harm that will come from me =)

however, from the looks of it the update/patch that will solve this problem for me will have to come from Toshiba, which seems like that I will have to wait even longer for an update or patch to be released...wish I had just bought the game for ps3...:(:(:(

If you don't like the modding another option is the "D.N.A. driver" which has already been customized to work with mobility chipsets, too.

PS: Always uninstall the old driver first before you install a new one.

See quoted response from desmondisalive, problem woth characters thread. He has the same GC as yourself and can play the game by updating his GC drivers. A patch will not help if you have Driver issues.

hey emreocer, I have the same laptop as you. Go ahead and download it. It is the right one.
And I wonder if you have any problems in seeing the characters. I can't see any of them ( during cinematics and game both ).
If your catalyst version is not older than 9.4, I advise you to wait until friday because the official version of catalyst 9.5 is rumoured to be released on friday. I am currently using the beta version but no change for me. Last but not least, I face no crash at the mainframe.
By the way, looking at your username, I guess you are from Turkey (like me). Hope it helps...

hi again, I think I'm a little late to respond but I should say 9.2 fixes all problems including "the hatch" in Dark Athena. Because I played that chapter earlier without any problem. So do not worry. It works like a charm. And also no problems with the Butcher Bay, including the notorious "mainframe". And I don't think eyeshine is a problem for ATI users. So I assume you don't experience it. Do you?

no i don't experience any eyeshine problems..9.2 solved everything, the graphics are more fluid then ever even on high texture settings with decals turned on, guess 9.2 was everything i needed :) now i can enjoy the game without any problems, i had skipped the mainframe area beforehand though, but i don't think it had any crucial points for the story.
