I'm pretty new at CS, and I've never really tackled anything in terms of making something, so I'm an amateur modeler, but is it possible to make rocks like Shy Guys set in Sketchup? If so, how?

It'd be pretty time consuming though. If you want to model rocks, use Blender's sculpt tool ;)

Well then I guess I'll have to download blender.

with trial and error you can accomplish anything, especially with using sketchup......i use it for all of my sets. rocks dont have to be perfect, start off with a sphere and go from there.

I never use a sphere on rock's, I just draw the outline flat, then extrude, then as T4L said, send it to blender and sculpt that sucker! Or just do it all in Blender =)

I agree, every underestimates sketchup. I think its far more efficient then most programs, its fast and if you know what you are doing you can make anything. Starting from a sphere is a good start as general rock shapes form from spheres(generally). Maybe use an icosohedron rather then a sphere to save polygons.
