Hello zigindago,
I do not have much experience with the editor but I think it would be helpful to know what exactly you're trying to do when you get those error messages? Do they occur when you start the editor or when you're trying to load a map or ...?

Hm, maybe the editor is not correctly installed:
a. install Silverfall
b. install patch 1.17 for Silverfall
c. install editor v.1.17
Note also that you can only load "Silverfall" maps (not "Earth Awakening" maps).
Which map are you trying to load?

No, the editor is "SF only", it doesn't work with EA. Also note that "Silverfall City" can be an EA map, too.
If you want to play SF + EA together then simply install SF and then EA and you're done. Do not install any patches / the editor.
As for the number of skill levels, I don't see much sense in a higher number of levels and I'm not sure this can be done with the editor. Maybe that's hardcoded in the *.EXE anyway, but I don't know. What I'd like to suggest instead is that you modify the scripts directly. You will find everything you need (e.g. the scripts for fireballs, iceballs etc.) in a file called "design.pak" (or, when the editor is installed, in the corresponding folders --> ..\Silverfall\data\design\.. ). However, if you only plan to modify scripts my advice is to uninstall the editor and to modify the script files directly. This is because the editor causes a lot of problems when it is installed.
PS: There are two ways to work with "design.pak": either open it with Windows notepad and copy & paste the sections you need or go to moddb (http://www.moddb.com/games/silverfall/downloads) and download an unpacker tool for Silverfall's PAK files. Make sure to unpack them into a temporary folder, so you can see the complete "design" of the game.

But I thought you liked the design of Silverfall/EA there Brewmaster. Too many bugs or holes for your taste? Or is it the excised multiplayer that has got you in a bad mood?

Hey Dave, don't worry, I'm still a big supporter of the babes of Nelwé, hehe. :D All I wanted to say was that a few people have experienced crashes and strange behaviour when they installed the editor.¹ Or are you wondering why I put "design" in inverted commas? With that I was only referring to the folder structure one gets when unpacking the "design.pak" (it's quite interesting, the complete strategic design is in there, all the skills, all the magic etc.). Sorry if that was ambiguous. ;)
Nevertheless, there are indeed a few scripts in EA which are (still) broken (like the elfes' premeditation skill), so I try to repair them if I can (unfortunately I'm not a scripter and I still haven't found a solution for the broken Mega Que'shi quest). :(
As for the MP ... ah, no, let's not discuss that again, but you might have seen already that a handful of designers who were responsible for SF have created an independent new game studio (and they are developing a brandnew Action-RPG atm, it's a sci-fi game called "Mars"). In this context Madame Rousseau (Silverfall's project manager) has given Gamebanshee an interview which also explains the circumstances why MC cancelled the MP (-> click (http://www.gamebanshee.com/interviews/mars1.php)). "City building", bah ... :p
¹) Btw, zigindago, if you want to continue to work with the editor it might be a good idea to install different versions of Silverfall on the same computer, e.g. I have three versions installed atm ->
1. pure SF
2. SF + editor
3. SF + EA
Thus I make sure the editor does not interfere with my SF installation. Any version can be started by clicking on the corresponding "silverfall.exe".
