The lift cable snapped or something?

Yep, it's hanging on the lift hill structure.

That's gonna be a ***** to fix, last time something big like that broke on MF, the ride was closed for a week (maybe more) while Intamin custom-made a new one and shipped it over here.

This game won't last very long.
Is it Millenium Force?

On noes! It's stock will fall in the Golden Tickets this year.
Seriously, that's not good. This might be down a week or two.

Oh no! This is one of my favorite rides. That is gonna be a **** to fix.

It's not the first time it's happened... it certainly won't be the last.

^How long did it take them to fix the last one?

About a week, if I remember correctly.

Hasn't been a fortunate week for CP. Dragster was stalled on the tophat on Monday and now Millie's having cable problems...
Tonight's ERT for the ride night was switched to Dragster and Magnum, and I would think that they'ed replace it with one of those two for early entry. It's scheduled for Coastermania ERT on June 6th, so hopefully it will be up and running by then.

Oh yeah, I forgot about CoasterMania coming up. That's really not gonna be good for the park if one of their flagship rides is indefinitely broken.
ytivarg
05-28-2009, 11:12 PM
indefinitely broken.
It's not indefineite.... like I said, it's happened before... took about a week to get the new cable and get it installed.

I hope there wasn't anyone on the ride when that cable snapped...
ytivarg
05-29-2009, 03:23 AM
There wasn't. It happened very early in the morning, before the park was open.

I was just about to post this thread but anyways I am going the day before CoasterMania and I really hope its open. It will be my first time riding. I also heard somewhere that the cable didn't exactly snap, but lets hope the fix it by atleast Wednesday.

From the looks of things, the return cable seperated, allowing the entire catchcar to come tumbling out of the channel that it rides in... it hangs because the lead cable is still attached.

Ahhh.. I see clearly now the rain is gone!
I knew it looked funky and figured it couldn't be the cable.. but couldn't put my finger on it.
Catch car ftw!
ytivarg

There's big discussion going on at a coaster dork forum elsewhere about the why's and whynot's of having some sort of stopper that would prevent the entire catchcar to come tumbling out like that.
I can't imagine that piece of steel falling out and banging around the track could be good for either the catchcar, or the track... but that's where the discussion is... if there was a stopper, would it cause more damage to the catchcar rather than just letting it fall?
I'm just glad I power-rode that thing the two days prior to this happening. I'm good for a while.

Why did this happen? Just time?
ytivarg
05-30-2009, 03:02 AM
I'd venture to say... I mean, these things do wear out. And, as far as I'm aware, this is the first time that the return cable has seperated... it's been the tow cable the other times... so maybe it was just it's time.

Haha, that made me laugh.
Hope it gets well soon! Does the ride have anti-rollbacks, being cable and all?
SnooSnoo

Every ride with a lift of any sort (not LSM's and the like) has anti-rollbacks.

The little squares to both the left and right of the catchcar are the anti-rollback holes. The way the rollback dogs work, is there is a wheel they are linked to. As long as long as that wheel is spinning at the correct speed or faster, the antirollback dogs stay up. That's why there's no traditional click-click-click up the lift. Occasionally if the crew dispatches too early, the lift will slow (so that the last block before the unload station is clear) down enough that the anti-rollbacks will begin to engage. It is LOUD. You can pretty much hear it all over the park.
EDIT: Here's a much better picture from construction of MF that shows the anti-rollback holes and the channel that the catch car rides in: http://www.pointbuzz.com/Photos/Photo.ashx?id=1263

Well, the LSM's act as anti-rollbacks themselves, almost. Slowly allowing it to return backwards. ;)

It's always heart breaking to see a ride SBNO, especially like that...
But hey, at least it didn't do this in the middle of the summer months!
ytivarg

It is a big disappointment to a lot of people. There are a LOT of school groups here right now this weekend that are bummed. It is a major crowd pleaser... and when people are making their possible one trip here for the summer, it's a major downer.
Thing is, CP knows it.. and they're working on it non-stop. When I worked on Dragster, we had a cable slip (not seperate) early in the day, and the fix usually takes almost an entire day. The ride was closed all day, but they kept the ride crew there all day, just in case, and lit a fire under the maintenance crew. They got it open 45 minutes before the park closed, and then kept the ride open for an additional 2 hours for the guests. It gets fixed, and gets fixed ASAP.
They're definetley not sleeping on this one, either.

Well.. we were discussing them in the traditional sense, with the lovely holes and clickity clack. :P

Good new, the CP blog says that it is up and running. First to announce it! Gravity, like you and I said, no MF+ school field trips= Can't wait for Thursday, soooooo happy!

That would be a large bill you'd end up with! ;p
-- but it's nice that CP is aware of the problem concerning the guests dissapointments, and fixing it as soon as possible, not slacking on the repair at all - to the joy of both their guest, and their annual revenue! :D

Yes she is. I was able to ride 5 times last Wednesday and another 2 times Thursday.:D

Two things CP is great at IMO is getting rides back open ASAP and speedy ride operations. ...Too bad their rain policy sucks though.

I think the last time they truly operated a coaster in the pouring rain was for Maverick's Opening Day.. in which I got pelted with needles.. enjoying every single second of it. :P

Until you've ridden Dragster in full-on rain, I don't want to hear about it.
Feels like a 3rd degree sunburn developing on your skin in a matter of seconds. One of the most horrible experiences of my life.

I rode Milliennium in rain on Opening Sunday of 2008...I didn't think it was all that bad. Uncomfortable, yes, but not painful. Maybe its because I had my face partially pointed down for half the ride.

The worst had to be MF when it was 35 degrees. I shivered for half an hour.. then rode TTD.

If you've not been on a coaster in hail, then you just don't know what pain is!
It started hailing when I was on a couple of coasters at Canada's Wonderland a few years ago. Ouch!
In 1994, on my very first ride on Raptor, sitting in the front seat, it was pouring down rain. My train was the last one sent out before the coaster was closed due to the weather. That ride was probably the most fun I've ever had on a coaster! (It helped that it was a warm rain.)

I actually don't have a problem with rain policies when it's actually raining or there are thunderstorms in the area. But when it's cloudy or barely misting, that's a little ridiculous IMO.
