View Full Version : Can't install Ghostbusters

Anyone found a solution to this problem:

After attempting to install the game and waiting for about 15 minutes as files seem to install on my pc a box pops up and states that the installer was interrupted and that no changes have been made to my system.

I have reset the pc and attempted to reinstall the game but the same problem appears. I was reading through some forums and it appears that this is because of a security feature on the game disc. I am running xp home.

*Update*
I browsed the forums and found a solution that worked for me. I installed the game initially to d: and was met with the same previous error. I located another Ghostbusters folder in C: that was placed there by the installation. I copied the files from the c: folder into Ghostbusters file in the d: folder. I then attempted to reinstall the game using the easy setup (default c:) and a box popped up stating that the game had been installed. A Ghostbusters shortcut was placed on my desktop. The game works fine now. I hope this helps someone.

I just bought the PC version and tried to install and same thing happen. I went to windows and down loaded all the updates and treid again. Same thing. I have tried to get it up and running for 3 hours now and still no luck. I even emailed the atari support like it says to do in the manual. It says they are 24/7 but still no replay. Any luck anyone? :(

I'm pretty sure that would violate the EULA. But I seem to remember the same issue happening with the Terminator Salvation game. The only way paying customers could play their game was by pirating it.

Did you managed to make it work ?

I'm waiting for the game to arrive by mail, and I have fears that I will have the same problems as you... Hope not but we never know.

Yeah, I'm glad I canceled my pre-order. Along with this, no multiplayer, and no achievements, it's pretty obvious Atari half-assed it for PC users. Shame, I been looking forward to picking up this game for well over a year, and they managed to completely destroy everything that made me want to buy it.

If you're on Vista or Win7 try running the installer in Admin mode or in compatibility mode.

ok same problem here. Called gamestop and they will not take the game back. So I'm out the 30 bucks i guess. Thanks atari. Tell you what, you get it on steam and give us a code to download a copy that works and I'll be happy. Till then fix it, and fire the person that is in charge of this mess. Hell you think you would have done something about it with the last game. Guess im asking to much for a game company to be honest with the customers. Who the bigger pirate here?

Haven't seen a paid Atari employee read these forums in months/years, the mods don't get paid, and the mod who used to cover these forums attacked a fellow member for being gay, and hasn't been seen since.

I only have the one drive, and running no emulation software at all (But once another game -said- it detected emulation software.) and took a while to install (Think it was Fallout 3 or Oblivion GOTY.) But it is a Blu-Ray drive, could that be the issue?

Atari has been very anti-Steam for new releases for a long time.
They have their own online distribution system, but its horrible with DRM and sneaky charges.

same problem here, gets to the end of coping files, then starts removing backups and says installer was interrupted and not completed.

have Vista x64 SP2
4 Gigs ram
geforce 8800GTX/768M

was trying to install onto a drive other than C:\ now when I'm installing again for the 3rd time it won't let me change to any other path that the one I tried the first time I installed even on easy install option..

Had this problem with Company of Heroes opposing fronts trying to install it into the same folder and the original game, but this is different..

Don't know if anyone has gotten this game to install.. Emailed support but don't expect anything back for a day or two from them.. So guess I have a coaster and a 20 min install bar I can watch. :) haha what a farce.

just got it 2hrs ago and i figured out how to get it to work

1. install like you normally would after the install finishes explore the dvd
2. open the setup folder and copy the bin folder into your main Ghostbuster directory (C:\Program Files\Atari\Ghostbusters or where ever you installed it in)
3. open the data.cab file with winrar (or any equivalent zip program that can extract .cab files) and extract the files to the bin folder. Also copy the .mst file there too not sure if you need them, i just did it to be on the safe side.
4. open the bin folder double-click the ghost_w32.exe file and an activation window will pop-up, so activate then play.

the only problem the textures for the menu screen aren't there (probably cus winrar couldn't extract those, you'll see the error when you extract not a big deal thouhgh), and the text for the game options (career, options, extras, exit) dont appear unless you mouse over them most likely for the same reason.

hope this helps until atari fixes it

If its issue with installing to drives other than C:\ then Atari needs to release an updated installer available off the website to fix this problem. I'am assuming you probably have C: reserved for the OS and your pagefile like lot of people do lot lately.

Use the custom install option to select the destination you would like to install Ghostbusters on your PC
Once the installation is complete (this can take up to 40 minutes) re-run the installer. This time select the C: drive as the destination location. The install should only take a few seconds
When the second install is complete, copy the 7 files created in the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Atari\Ghostbusters" folder and paste them into the "Ghostbusters" folder you originally selected for your custom install
You will then be able to run the game normally

Okay folks, I like many others in this thread and forum have purchased the PC version of this game. I personally have 2 physical HDD's with three primary partitions C, D, and E. I attempted to install this game on my D drive as I currently use the C for the OS and pagefile only (as mentioned by a previous poster).

Well I too ran into the installation error that stated: The installation was interrupted.

I rebooted and tried installing again to no avail and began reading the nightmares posted about installing this game via the "custom" option and attempting to put it on a different drive other than C.

Well here is where I got a little crazy, I decided to have a look in my registry.
If you are not comfortable with editing your registry please read no further (IT CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS) and if you do not know what your registry is you probably should not attempt this fix.
Well with my registry open I went to 'Edit' then 'Find' (also ctrl-F) and searched the string 'Atari'
The first few I found were pointing to the correct location D:\Program Files (x86)\Atari\Ghostbusters\, however after the first few (using F3 to 'Find Next') I found they were either pointing to C:\Program Files (x86)\Atari\Ghostbusters\ OR C?\Program Files (x86)\Atari\Ghostbusters\
I then decided to backup the registry and proceeded to edit all the entries I could find that had the wrong locations.
After I was finished and had edited all the registry values to D:\Program Files(x86)\Atari\Ghostbusters I ran the installer again and it completed properly, that is to say it finished the install in the directory I chose. I launched the game activated and all seems well.

I decided to post my solution to try and help. Again, PLEASE, DO NOT mess with your registry unless you feel 100% capable. I hope this helps. Good Luck fellow PC gamers.

Edited for typos.

if you feel comfy with your computer, and have tried to install it to anything other then the default path..

regedit and do a search for the install directory you tried to install it to.. IE e:\games\ghostbusters

or whatever the full path is.. hit F3 a few times and delete all the keys that have that same path you put in to install ghostbusters, when they are all gone.. run the install again and choose easy install..

it will install to: C:\Program Files\Atari\Ghostbusters
the game then should work.

i hope they fix this soon.. i dont like having crap like this on my c:\

****also they are putting it on steam http://store.steampowered.com/ it is LIVE on there now. i hope the code works on there when its live and i can install it where this should go.. the cd-key does not work on steam yet, it should soon and you can always e-mail it in to them.

if you are in the US, get the game on steam above.

dont forget to complain to atari and tell them to fix this and the multi-player issue with the pc.

However heres how i got it to work,

I had installed to C:\ghostbusters and then got the error at the end, upon looking around at my hard drive i found that the install had also made a file in C:\Program Files\Atari\Ghostbusters that had the game exe in it, so i copied those files(all files the C:\Program Files\Atari\Ghostbusters folder) to were the custom install was and bam working ghostbusters.

i hope this helps.

A Few suggestions on getting Ghostbusters to run on PC

The easiest way I have found to workaround this odd installing issue is after you have the game installed continue to start the "setup" again and select the "repair" function from the list of choices. Allow the game to repair and then when complete continue to your C: drive and look for a Atari folder. Continue into the folder and into its Ghostbusters folder. Observe the files your first install is missing are now found here. Copy all these files and move them into where you had Ghostbusters previously installed. Launch game and it should work fine.

----
Another way is to follow the steps below:
1) Run the installer once, with the non-default folder you want to install to. The installer will say it was interrupted.
2) Download the “Windows Install Clean Up” tool from Microsoft. (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 has an explanation/download link)
3) Start the installer again, but don’t click past the first screen that pops up.
4) Run the “Windows Install Clean Up” and remove “Ghostbusters: The Video Game”.(You could probably also clean your registry however else you wanted at this point if you're savvy).
5) Click next in the installer, and reinstall to the same location you picked before. It should now install correctly to the folder you chose.

The main key is to start the installer a second time, clean the registry with the Windows registry tool, and then finish running the installer.

I truly hope this helps solve your installing problems.
-Shawn

Thanks to the tips here I've been able to get my copy installed and working... somewhat. It seems the crux of the problem is the installer throwing a hissy-fit if you try to install somewhere besides the C-drive.

I've been able to get it working now, but I've encountered some new error: no voices in the cutscenes. Would this be a video player error of some kind (using VLC associated with .ogv files)? Or am I missing an english dialogue file for cutscenes?

Everything else seems fine, it just seems a file is missing to tell the game to run the English dialogue during cutscenes. Does anyone know what that file is and where it needs to be?

You try doing a install repair or something?

language.pod is that file in the programfiles/atari/ghostbusters/ directory or subfolders in there.

Did you check the other game folder that you attempted to install to to see if there are any files there if so copy them to the game direct to where it actually installed.

Well, I picked up the game over Valve's Steam service.

Downloaded it first into Windows 7 rc-1. when I try to start the game, nothing happens. I figured Win7 wasn't supported.

I reboot into XP sp3 off another hdd. Re-download the game via Steam, same result. It's nice people have posted up ideas for how to fix this issue, but I downloaded this via Steam, so I don't have any re-install or custom install options, or a physical disc containing the game.

if anyone has any ideas, i'm all ears.

Try launching it from the steam root folder ..\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\ghostbusters - if you get an error like x3daudio1_3.dll missing - that is what I have been getting in W7... probably an audio file it is looking for and can't find. tried to just drop it in the windows/system32 folder but it didn't work so far. if you get an answer, i'd love to hear it.

thanks for the advice! I got it running in WinXP after re-installing direct-x.

No clue why that did anything, to be honest. My motherboard is an Evga 680i, i am using the onboard sound.

edit: In XP sp3, not in Win7. I seriously doubt Win7 is in any way supported in pre-release form.

I had a similar issue but there were no icons or start menu stuff to actually play the game after installing. I tried installing it on my G:\ drive and read that only C:\ drive works.

So I reinstalled to C:\ drive but it went ahead and copied the bulk of the files to G:\ anyway. So I had all the application files to start the game on my C:\ drive but all the bulk art and packages on the old location of the G:\ drive :/ So I try and start the game after I have a desktop shortcut and it says the packages are missing, well duh, you installed them to the G:\ drive for some reason remember? (prolly a registry problem where I didn't properly uninstall the game off the G:\, but then again it would let me properly install it to G:\ to begin with)

So our journey continues and I move all the bulk art files from my G:\ directory and move them to the proper place on the C:\ drive and voila, it works! I hope this helps someone :/

I just wish they had a better 3D feel to it. The voices seem to be coming from all the speakers and what is in 3D is only lightly feels like it's in the direction it is in... Small pain. Great game otherwise!

So NONE of this has worked for me. For some reason, it still shows up in my 'Programs and Features' area. I can't chose INSTALL anymore. I can only chose:

MODIFY

REPAIR

UNINSTALL.

NONE work. They all give me the same message: FAILED TO WORK! ZOMG! KITTENS! DEATH!

I tried editing the registry, I tried deleting the files manually... but for some reason, I think the fact that it's STILL STUCK IN PROGRAMS AND FEATURES won't let me install it.

This is the LAST TIME I will EVER buy a game with DRM. I didn't get it... but now I do. I've had TROUBLE with DRM before, but never THIS MUCH trouble. This TOTALLY SUCKS!

I haven't played a good game in YEARS... since I was like... 20 and in COLLEGE.

Rebuilt my comp. back in Sept. for this game.

WJC74
06-16-2009, 11:51 PM
This isn't a DRM problem, just some goofer screwed up a very basic installer program. I had the same trouble installing to my C:Games folder, so it's not just the drive letter, it's the whole folder sequence that's the hangup. Going to C:Program Files\Atari\Ghostbusters and copying all the lost little files to my preferred Ghostbusters folder completed the install. Not a tough deal, really. Now to register and play.

We PC gamers are morphing from adventurers to masochists.

I wonder how will Atari even fix this? You can't patch a game you can't install, right?

had to post an update even tho it wont help many people.

I got mine installed and played the first levels. All videos play and everything.

How?

I returned my copy to Best Buy, the let me exchange for a new one and I had to unwrap it in the store. (So I cant get my $ back later).

Well I put it in and installed everything to default locations. Flawless install, no hicupps. I think there could be some less reliable Cds out there..

I dont like how you can't set customize your controls to have your mouse move forward (just my personal style) but the game is pretty awesome for 80's flashback. The graphics look good too, my 4870 1GB seems to play it just fine at 1650 x 1080 or whatever.. my 22" widescreen.

So if all else fails, try to get another CD.

Since I was at work and saw that other people tried installing their game I already knew what I was up for when I got home. So I did the smart thing and just ignored putting it on my D: drive.

The game installed perfectly then asked me to activate okay seems fine, I enter my cdcode without the dashes..BTW the cd code is on the backside of the front cover ie. flip the cover page over and look on the left page on the bottom. YOU MUST ENTER CD KEY WITH DASHES. Just incase anyone else does what I did the first time.

It activated fine and it booted up. It goes through the first cutscene I see their lips moving but no words? WTF? Okay thats fine maybe my sounds down too much well then I hear slimer and I hear the guys when they are telling me to folllow egon.. So then I check my video settings and my audio settings and also go and remap my controls.. Well I found that you cant bind more then one mouse button? I have the mx518 so I like being able to use the side mouse buttons, well that worked fine, and so did left mouse but the 5th mouse button my mouse wheel and my right mouse button wont bind. DOES anyone else have this issue?

Anyway then I was asked to follow egon, So I follow him and then the game crashes.. no error pops up (I hear it in the background I just couldnt get to it) Nothing I did worked so it was late and wife was getting mad so I just rebooted it. I reboot this time it goes into game and im watching the cutscene and I put on captions so I could atleast read what they were saying but again no words.. So then I turn my volume way up and I can hear their voices... anyone else get this? Oh well, after that he starts walking through how to use my proton pack and make sure you vent it so I follow that instruction and he tells me to attack slimer and that other ghost so im attacking slimer and im having some fun and then that ugly fat guy comes in so im attacking him also and then he explains you zap em cap em and bag em I finally get to "cap em" and it says okay go ahead cap em.. I was excited because I have been wanting to use the ghost trap.. THEN IT CRASHES AGAIN. WTFBBQ!@#!@#. I do have my processor overclocked heavily and also my video card but I was just curious if anyone else has had any crashes.. if not ill just turn my overclock down and see if that fixes it. Since im at work figured I would share my story.

Recap...

Problems

1.No sound in cutscenes?
2.Graphics just dont look as good as I have seen in the screenshots, odd.
3. Seems mouse laggy in the beginning but once I got a hold of the proton pack it was pretty smooth, ill play a little more before I judge it.
4.Had to increase sound dramatically to hear the cutscenes.
5. cant map some mouse buttons?
6. Crashes 2 times already and havent made it more then 3 minutes through the story.
7. cant install in any other directory.

Pros:
1. Instant excitement knowing I was playing ghostbusters
2. Graphics still give you the feel you are a ghostbuster, specially the proton pack.
3. Slimer sounds and looks cool
4. only 30$
5. Destroyable environment
6. Could actually install on C: and had no issues activating minus the lil cd key problem.

Crossphyr, I'm running on a slightly -20%ish- overclocked AMD 5000 (similar in specs to the 6600) and an Nvidia 9500 card, and onboard Realtek sound, and haven't experienced sound problems or crashes at all. Actually once I got past the installation bug it's been silky smooth. The only sound problem I can complain about is Bill Murray's voice recording was just too quiet. They should have amplified his lines about 15-20% before shipping. I would say lowering your video card overclock and then the processor if neccesary are good place to start. I don't know what to tell you about the sound problems, except maybe try onboard sound if you're using a Creative brand sound card. I never had anything but problems with Creative stuff.

Well, I ended up finding the file in my steam apps folder. Started up the game through there. It works fine, but the load times are much longer than most games, and quite frankly the game is boring and confusing. It's great to get that oldschool ghostbuster feeling. So overall I am fine with the purchase. I needed a game I could set down and not feel like im missing out on anything special.

Hey, well similar specs maybe but performance is another story :). Anyway I am going to tonight check out if its my overclock causing the crash, at 3.6 it can get a little shaky somedays. Also I have onboard realtek with my motherboard so I doubt its my onboard. Also other sounds work and if you read it closely you will notice that I added that I turned up the volume and could hear their voices. It seems like they are really low for some odd reason. Hope they patch that issue. Anyway also you said its silky smooth

What settings do you have it at? resolution? etc.. I felt it was a little breaky when you first start out in the office portion but when I went into the basement it seemed fine, ill play around with what areas cause the lag and adjust my settings accordingly..

I figured no one had the crashes and I was pretty sure it was one of my two overclocks so ill look into it. Ill give more info regarding the sound when I play later. I want to make sure its the game (which im sure it is) because no other game I have ever owned has any sound issues regarding voices, cut scenes or volume. Like you said it looks like bill murrays voice is like 20% lower then it should be.

Anyone have any other issues besides the install bug? Hows the performance for everyone? is it smooth? what resolution and graphic quality settings are you playing on and with what video card and specs etc..????

Thanks.

Hey I got it to work. After going thru the registry and changing all the ghostbusters info to the drive i installed it on, it installed. Then it wouldn't start a career, just keeped going back to the main screen. So i looked in both drives and copied the stuff from c: ghostbusters folder to the f: ghostbusters folder and am able to play, no voices in cutscenes tho, i do get the background sounds and music. I'll have to look into that later, but for now subtitles work. I'll have to get it working on my other computer as this one is 6 years old, not that this 1 is bad its just that it has an AMD 3200+ 754 cpu and motherboard. Great teamwork guys. I've waited for this game for a year. And Atari didn't make this game, they just published it, but they could have made sure it worked properly before releasing it.

I installed it on my other computer which is running windows 7, I went thru the exact same steps by changing the c: in the registry to the d: where i was trying to install it to. The first time i did this on the other computer running windows xp home sp3, I change some of the settings in the registry that had like c? to d:, and on that computer it plays well but without voice in the cutscene. I left the ? in the registry settings on the new computer and just changed the drive letter, I have voice in the cutscenes and everything runs great.

I wasn't able to make any of these workarounds work, since I had deleted the original install that i put into my games partition (had all files except exe), now everytime I try to install, I get an error at the end, and the installer says its going to "rollback", and doesn't even leave an incomplete install folder no matter where i install to, default location or otherwise.

I eventually gave in and just bought the game on steam, which is working without a problem.

Now my problem is gamestop will not refund my game since its open. I wouldn't sell my copy to anyone knowing it most likely wont work. At the very least, i'm hoping to be sent a revision copy that will work, and install off the disc without workarounds, so I can at least gift my steam copy to someone.

If i'm stuck paying for 2 copies, only 1 of which is any good to me, I don't know what to do, other than boycott atari games from now on.

crossphyr, yeah I've seen a little frame drop in the Sedgewick areas, particularly once the water started flowing. My video card is a little underpowered honestly. I'm playing on an HDTV right now, at 1280x720 with medium-high effects.

BTW the game plays great with a gamepad. I have the Logitech Rumblepad 2 wireless, and it set up perfectly when I turned it on in control options. A 360 pad probably works too, but I don't have one to check. Aiming is a little tougher than with a mouse, but the analog movement sure is nice. Funny they didn't mention gamepad support on the box or manual, pretty obvious this was a rush port. But if you guys can get it running, it's pretty cool. And beats the pants off 360 and PS3 visually. Just be glad you didn't get the PS3 version, man those poor guys are burned.

After dealing with the install problems I thought I was home free.. but I'm having crashing issues in XP. Every few mins it crashes and I have to reboot. And it gets little choppy for the sweet machine i'm using.

So then I tried it on my Vista... same install problem... fixed that... but when I start the same the sounds is MESSED up!! the music is messed and the voices sound like Satan himself. Normally the audio is fine in Vista and my sound drivers are up to date..

The one game I've been wanting to play soo bad is the one that gives me the most problems.. *sigh*

Also I came acros Ghost_W32.exe on the install CD wich is some CD check serial number deal. Not suprisingly when I run it and after it connects to the atari server it says my serial number is invalid even though I really for real bought the game today (great choice)....

Oliver, you'll need to do a registry edit and delete all your Atari Ghostbusters files. Then you should be able to reinstall it easily.

OK I wasn't clear on this, I did delete all registry keys linked to atari prior to reinstalling, but the install after it fails just deletes what files it copies, and doesn't even leave a folder behind. I tried restoring my registry backup and it didn't help.

Also, the install doesn't fail until its like 20 minutes in, and I have tried removing ghostbusters usings "windows install clean up", after 2 hours, I gave in and bought the game again on steam.

You're a genius. Game works great now. Just made a shortcut to d:drive, ghost_w32.

I didn't have the install problems like all of you, after reading the forums I just did the easy install and it booted right up.

The problem I found was I was getting crashing every few minutes with and without my overclocks on. I was starting to wonder how the heck??? Heres a topic started at steampowered. http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=898319

Also here is a topic started at [H] Forum http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1426970

Both of those have some fixes that other people have tried..

Alright now back to my problem.

I first did the easy install and everything worked BUT I had no cutscene volume. I realized the next day that it seemed that all sound was working but that. I checked my speaker config and it was on only 2 speakers. I have a 5.1 x530 speaker.. The speaker fix can be found here..
http://www.ataricommunity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=678757
Basically what I did was find out that the cutscene audio only comes from my center speaker. Thus having a 2.1 or 2.0 possibly doesnt allow cutscene audio? No one has verified this for me yet..

Anyway then I found out anytime it told me to follow egon in the beginning it was locking up. The lock up was random but almost anytime during that first scene part. I thought it might be my overclock (odd because crysis never has crashed or any other game) So then I remove myoverclock same thing!!!

I then decide you know what F you atari im reinstalling. When I go to reinstall it gives me the option to

-Modify
-Repair
-Uninstall

I decided wth.. Ill just try repairing it, maybe that will fix it. It ended and said it updated the files or some lame crap like that. I tried it again.. NO WORKIE.. So I decide ehhhh Ill uninstall, once the uninstall was done it asked me if I wanted to deactivate and some files wont work etc etc.. I deactivated online and it said are you sure you want to lose these files and I said yes. I then instantly went to install and I changed my path from the default to my D: drive. I kept the old C: folder where it has only the readme's left after the uninstall and I was watching to see if any files were put there.

Well after the install like everyone elses it didnt put anything but the pod files and video folder in my D: drive. (there are only 6-8 extra files you need anyway, it doesnt look like a typical unpacking of files like you would typically see) So I just cut and pasted those 6-8 files into my D: drive and then I was going to launch. Then I noticed.. Hey I still have my headset plugged in.

Now onto the headset.. My headset doesnt mute my speakers when plugged in my front audio.. Realtek sucks.. So what I do is when I use my regular speakers, I just turn down my volume on my headset and use my speakers, If I want to use my headset I just turn off my speakers..

Well I decided maybe its a audio conflict because I keep having it crash during some sort of audio talking or right near there. So I unplugged my headset.

Now I finally start the game up and I have my fingers cross when I follow egon but for some reason it feels super smooth unlike the first 20 times its crashed. so I follow egon, go fight slimer, go fight the fat guy and VAMOOSH it worked... Those are exactly the steps I tried..

Now before uninstalling I did stuff like trying to lower all my graphic details, I tried changing resolutions and that gave me some weird error..

I hope some of this helps someone else.. Goodluck.

Did u get an .exe installed or did u use the one in the bin dir?

Ya it will install the .exe and 4 or 5 other .dll files on c: drive under program files if you select any other drive to install the game on. You can copy those over to the install dir of the game or take them off the disc. Game works flawlessly.

When I put all the files in the C drive to my J drive, it worked fine. But after I chose career and the first cutscene finished, it went to a loading screen. The Game just froze on that screen, its just pernimantly loading.

Any idea why this is happening??

Try deleting everything in your j: and c: that ghostbusters put in there. Then go to your registry and do a find for ghostbusters and delete everything; then do it for Atari also.---->(if you have no other Atari software installed)

Then.....
Run Setup through custom.
Wait for the setup to say it failed.
Explore game CD
Go into /Setup/bin/
Copy all the files into the main ghostbuster directory.

Haha yea it was definetly taking a lot of my patience away.. It seems like a lot of people are having trouble, worse part is a lot of them are not reading these posts, thats all I did and I cant expect that this type of logical fix wouldnt work with everyone... the regedit fix is here, the just do easy install is here, the install to different path and transfer is here..

Seems like people getting to excited and blasting off their proton pack without reading.

so i had the same problem,

However heres how i got it to work,

I had installed to C:\ghostbusters and then got the error at the end, upon looking around at my hard drive i found that the install had also made a file in C:\Program Files\Atari\Ghostbusters that had the game exe in it, so i copied those files(all files the C:\Program Files\Atari\Ghostbusters folder) to were the custom install was and bam working ghostbusters.

i hope this helps.

This is exactly what I did, except I copied the files from the custom folder to the one in the Atari directory.

That got it installed correctly, authorized, and working. :D

Here is my history of getting this game to work, for the record.. (hopefully it helps someone.)

Windows XP Pro SP2
NVidia GeForce 8800 GT

I first got the "..interrupted.." error - which kills the install BEFORE the authentication.
I then went to the install directory, right-clicked the exe and selected "Launch Analysis", this eventually allowed me to manually authenticate.
Once I authenticated I was able to copy the binaries from "Program Files/..." into my custom directory and the game started fine. (but it was not considered installed by Windows)
I re ran the installer and the game installed and registered as installed.

After all of that, I also got the "..vertex.." (or something) error. I downloaded and installed the latest NVidia drivers for the 8800 and that cured all.

I've been playing the game on high everything for days now without incident!

Awesome game, I consider all the work well worth the effort - I've had a great time playing. Hopefully there will be some patches and future releases for us hard-working PC people (don't forget about us!)

Had the same problem when trying to install to anywhere but the default drive.

Installed it on E and then copied the few MBs of files from C to the folder on E. Still didn't work so I went to Add/Remove and clicked Uninstall, then clicked repair and the game copied all the missing files then.

So.

1. Install to a custom folder
2. Copy files made on the C drive
3. Repair game from Uninstall menu.

Works for me! ;)

What if you dont have 11bg on the C: drive? The installer stops you from continuing EVEN THOUGH it actually doesnt install more than a few mb's using this method. What I did was copy the files from the CD's "bin" folder to the atari folder.

I hope this helps someone.

hi, thank you for the solution. You saved my day. I can now play the game. Hope they will fixed this issue.

That's the two different directories thing. For some reason the CD has memory. I deleted all ghostbuster entries in my registry but when I load the CD is automatically assumes I want the game in C:\Games\Ghostbusters instead of the original default of C:\Program Files\Atari\Ghostbusters.

If you got the game to install correctly, find where your shortcut for the game EXE is linked to, that's where you'll find your normal binary files. Then go to wherever your custom install directory was supposed to be and you'll find all the POD files and the Video folder. Copy all that stuff into the directory where your EXE file is and WALLA!
