Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone could tell me, or point me towards any tuts on, how to UV map in sketchup for RCT3? I have found several tuts on the subject on the internet but they have all been to apply the texture in SU, and as we all know the importer doesn't like SU textures.

Thanks! :)

first import your texture/color, then right click on the face that has the texture, then where it says "texture" click on that, and you will see the word "position" click that and you will be able to stretch, and skew the image/texture. hope this helps

I find that it is VERY important you do this with custom textures (AKA ones NOT provided in sketchup) If you do not do this, the textures will appear as millions of tiny squares in Sketchup and RCT3

Thanks for all your help you two, but I am still very confused by all this... I feel many hours of foiled attempts may ensue...

Here is a tut on this:

This is an example model I will use for this, take note of the areas in which I circled:

First, Open your "Materials" Window:
http://i541.photobucket.com/albums/gg369/Old-Spice-08/2-17.jpg

Too import a texture click the button I circled in red:
http://i541.photobucket.com/albums/gg369/Old-Spice-08/3-7.jpg

This window will pop up, just brows for your image:

Self explanitory, hit ok:

And it will not be in the materials window. You can now apply it to your model. If you notice its too small, then change the aspect ratio:

--------------Step 2---------------

You can also click your texture wherever it might be and drag it into SU, to use it as a texture, right click and select Use as texture. You may delete it after it has appeared in your materials window:

------------Position----------

To position your texture Right click and view this pic:
http://i541.photobucket.com/albums/gg369/Old-Spice-08/10.jpg

You now can move, crop, skew, and rotate your texture via the colored pins. just click and drag:

Just right click and choose "done" when your done.

The sample paint tool is usefull for after you position your texture, you can sample it and apply it to other faces and it will keep the edits you made.

Also guys you can use the sketchup textures its just no one knows what copyright is on them. They only become small if you do not position them correctly.

Thanks everyone, one more question though - if I do textures in SU, what do I put in the textures section of the importer?

ok, where ever you got the texture to import in sketchup, use that same file location for the importer. make sure your texture is the power of two. (64x64, 128x228, 256x256)

Except using the above method I have applied more than one texture... :S Sorry for showing such a terrible lack of understanding, but thanks for all your help everyone!

sorry I should have explained more. Sketchup textures need to be edited. They are often as coasterfreak said not a square texture to the power of 2. You need to right click the sketchup texture in the material window and export it. Then you may need to edit the texture if it is not square. Also make sure that the texture is no bigger then 512x512 pixels.
