Rulez!

I saw the most fantastic movie on the airplane on the way to Italy. Has anyone else seen The Reader? It made me bawl my eyes out.

And I don't see why Slumdog Millionaire was so popular - watched it too, and I thought it sucked.

Haha. I heard something about the Lead singer from Queens of the stone age. Something about him in another band. Does anyone know the band's name??

It was a "try to legitimize Bollywood" thing - show that their crappy movies which cost 20,000 rupees to make actually have a real chance of competing with Hollywood films that cost tens or hundreds of millions to produce. :bored:

Anyway, that's why I bring a laptop with some movies on it when I go flying. "Butthole *****s 4" is usually much better than whatever the airline's playing.

Probably because you're incapable of finding joy. Might also have something to do with your cultural/racial heritage.

Or, erk, your personality :o

EDIT: Not you, Cain.

Good thing Boyle's little project did a perfectly good job of competing with regular Hollywood films.

As for labels, MOTOWN, hell yeah.

So did "Blair Witch Project." And "Saw." And, let's not forget how massively successful "Titanic" was.

I stand by my claim that "Butthole *****s 4" is a better piece of cinema, with far greater artistic and creative value than any of them. :p

I leave for an hour and the $*** already hits the fan.:p

Butthole *****s 4 was all sorts of ****, the only reason it was made was because they could count on the retarded fans of the original three films to pay in the hopes of finally seeing the back-story on the big screen. The only good thing about that film was Darth Maul.

As for Saw, it was pretty damn' good, despite having set off a whole new wave of useless gore-porn.

It was "Arse Maul," and you know it.

And if you couldn't appreciate the masterfully subtle way the director wove the plots from the previous movies into Butthole Wholes 4, you're just devoid of any artistic appreciation whatsoever.

Haha I was pretty much the opposite. I liked Slumdog Millionaire quite a bit but I couldn't get behind The Reader. I think they were both well-made films though.

I'm listening to a radio Motown montage. It's great.

Probably not what the OP intended, but the history of music had so many barriers for previous generations that I'm glad it's changed.

Kind of a bold statement. I guess you didnt grow up in india. Different places of the world have different tastes. Open up or dont. :)

Like I said, most likely not what you intended....but music and recording studios in general, weren't always as they are now. "Back in the day" when radio was all they had.

There was a lot of racial segregation in music, for my parents' generation. The radio stations didn't have any cross-over, but the radio was all they had. They used to rely on listening booths to buy a 45, and those were segregated, too.

Once television was main stream, all they had was the Ed Sullivan Show.

I think the first non-white person my parents liked was Nat King Cole. They used to talk about Chubby Checkers, Sammy Davis Jr, Chuck Berry, and even Elvis, and how their parents didn't like "swiveling hips". Even dancing the Twist was controversial.

Trying to get back on topic, but it's hard for me. Last time I remember looking for artists by label was Island Records. *tho 18th Street Lounge is still a good bet* Distributors are all over the map. Last time I looked for concerts by artist was Steely Dan, but they turned out to be just a session group. (yeah, it's been that long)

I don't even look for music by genre anymore, because there's so much cross-over. Now I just ask about the songs I hear that I like, or ask friends if they have any music they think I may like.

Isn't that how everyone else finds new music? My son attended Bonnaroo, but he thinks since I'm his mom I can't fully appreciate new or different music. He's stereo-typed me :(

Well look at the bright side of things.
He went to Bonnaroo.
At least he didn't attend Warped tour just to hear pop music made by a bunch of emo ***s.

Not really. Youtube "Indian thriller" for definitive proof that Indians have crappy taste. And limited intelligence. :p

Is anybody upset that our dear friend Krusty is gone? I mean, he did so much for this forum. He brought ']['ear and Cain closer together. He brought some real candid dicussions about.... uh.... uh.... meeting other forum members to the forefront, and he was able to evade Dread's moderator hat for a few weeks.

I miss him.

I need to see if I can get some mo' tickets.

Last year's Indigo Girls concert was fun.... cooking out with my bestest friends, meeting Lolli, meeting your daughter (she was precious btw)...

This year the concerts we are promoting are nearly as cool though. Bad Company is the only one I really wanna see right now.''BIURZ43wlzs

And my personal setter comes through to talk about our good friend Loki!!!

Speaking of music and concerts - I am working at a festival in 1,5 week. After I confirmed to work there, they hired my band to play, too. Pretty cool :)

Today I got my schedules, and I'm working as assistent stage manager - including during my own gig :P

What style of music do you play?

Punk/hardcore. And we're the only band like that at that festival, so I wonder how many people will even come to our show - or more importantly, stay once we start playing.

^You'd be surprised.
If you guys can hold good notes and have great timing I'd definatley stay for the show!!

-----July 2 :D
I was listening to the local rock station in my neighborhood and I heard a new song from "Alice In Chains". It turns out they are giving the new bands a run for their money. Their title song (I forgot the name of it, sorry) was actually nothing like the old but I guess the beginning of the new Alice In Chains. I'll try to get more news on it and see who the line up (Band Members) are.:noob::up:
